grant shaw from the 2010 tournament here - im not sure about the exact origins of the jumpluff list i used, but i copied the 60 from ptcglegends under "build 2" of jumpluff. I'm not sure if this was the circumstance you were describing, but i did manage to beat cyrus' gengar in round 4 of swiss with the help of the aggressive luxray, and i think they prized their 1 shadow skip gengar too. As for the gardevoir matchup - i technically didn't lose my top 4 match, i just had to leave for my pokemon center reservation 😅 (also sorry to evan cole for ending his tournament run and then just leaving). This was my first retro tournament ever, let alone my first 2010 tournament, and i had a ton of fun, and it's safe to say that im now addicted to this format. i also want to say thank you for your content, specifically 2010 for dummies, for getting me interested in this format and making me want to play in this event.
I wish you could have finished the battle. Imagine if Jumpluff or Steelix had won the tournament! Great performance for a first attempt, though. I'm hoping to attend my first retro event soon, and I would be honored if I made top cut!
Random thought: imagine how strong CurseGar would be in Doubles, where you could have a Spiritomb in the Active to make effective use of Poltergeist. Kind of like how MewTrick dominates EX Block doubles because you can have something in the Active with a Cessation Crystal on it and your opponent can't use Windstorm to discard it due to Disconnect.
The deck just wouldn't even be cursegar at that point lol you wouldn't even run Curse Gengar. Frankly the strongest deck in that kind of format would probably be Garde for the same reason of having a Tomb active and also locking Powers at the same time
Where do you find James Gillespie's lists? I thought I would be able to find them now that I know what last name "G" stands for, but James G's lists continue to elude me.
Imagine how much better Raticate would be if Team Plasma Pokémon got Team Plasma pre-evolutions. Then again, I'm sure part of the reason for not making whole evolution lines Team Plasma was to future-proof Colress Machine.
2014 lists haven't really been modernized in many ways, but 2010 lists are posted by me on my twitter and in the Old Format Pokemon TCG discord run by 2010decklists (Twitter0
There was Pokémon search in 2010, but it was Luxury Ball, SP radar, and Pokémon Communication. Most of the Pokémon search fell to Supporters like Roseanne's Research, Pokémon Collector, and Bebe's Search. The game was slower and had more Item lock so loading your deck with 4-8 Supporters that search Pokémon is good as you'll need them throughout the game, which lasts longer than 5 turns like it does now.

Cool to know some of the backstory here. Thanks for sharing!

Its me!! Both tournaments were sick hopefully there is more to come
Godddddd 2008-2010 is peak Pokémon. I wish I hadn’t gotten rid of all my cards after going on hiatus.
While the formats aren't cheap, it's still not too late to get back into DP stuff. Ex era is unfortunately too far gone into price hikes 😔
@@WhimsicottTCG Ex era seems far cheaper

@@WhimsicottTCG Both fair points.
Loved the video!

They're in his discord. I can't send it here

yeah part of it is future proofing, but even then I don't think Raticate would be great. These kind of decks are always gimmicks.
If you need any proof of the future proof thing, just look at what you can do with Accelgor DEX in Expanded due to Shelmet Fusion and Genesect V lol
Where can I see modernized list of these formats

Where do I play 2010 format?
2010 format is playable via Webcam or real life play. Not available on the online simulators yet
Did you guys like, not have items back then? Or Pokémon search? Like ultra ball?

Apparently the Jumpluff list is by "several people," whatever that means. Just email Sean Worcest, I guess. *Shrug*
Hmmm, yes, The Company Pokémon International, my favorite American corporation.
