A great way to compare kaalia is to through the breach. She plays very similar to that card in this deck for 1 less mana, more synergy (like goryios kaalia), and the creature stays in play
12:14 - Spike could have exerted Arena of Glory to attack with Solitude for a bit more life, right? Arena isn't just red creatures, it's just "if this mana is used to cast a creature", so I don't think it matters the color
I have been playing a version of this deck on Arena in Historic and Timeless based on Spike's original version. So i have been playing it with faithless looting as well and the deck is a blast to play. Love beating people with a card that they have probably never been beaten by before.,
For Mono red Phoenix I think the current appeal and potential positive to it is how unsteady the Meta game is right now that you can just play a slightly more efficient burn deck essentially. there’s versions that have a little bit of extra discard to focus on Phoenix, but it is unclear if it will actually be a good deck for the future. I do believe, though at its worst, it will occupy the space of being a bit of more of a powered up burn deck.
@ mono or a splash doesn’t really matter the conversation is between Izzit Xerox pheonix that’s a mess of cantrips versus the version focused on burn which is the “mono red pheonix” but it can be gruul or Boros it’s just the choice between Xerox focused pheonix or Burn focused pheonix.
Love kaalia, my only "complaint" if you can call it that is that emperor got cut so low. I can't argue what should be cut for more copies right now, but it's so strong in the current meta
Also, is Ilharg that much worse than Kaalia for 1 more mana? Understand the return to hand is brutal, but a 5 mana 6/6 that can also put phlage or Fomo in seems strong. People just can't kill it
I see where you are coming from, but yeah, one more mana is just that much more, especially in the current super quick metagame, the goal is to get as far ahead of your opponent as soon as possible, and waiting one more turn, basically just for your enabler creature to have better stats, is not good enough.
@Randomperson-pk3ce forsure, i think it'll take time to see what comes out on top but right now the game is blazing fast. But we have a goryo's package for blazing fast games
@PSTOSD absolutely, it matters alot for the turn 2 goryos. Often though I'm waiting for ephimerate back up. But maybe not needing to is another argument in favor of kaalia. What worries me is I'm more likely to bin the atraxa/grisel on a turn 2 goryos then kaalia, since they could ruin me with push/bolt/lava dart etc
I've been playing this and it's always super frustrating having kaalia and no payoff, or discarding the payoff and drawing kaalia. Also kaalia is only a 2/2 and people are running bolts again. Also orvar is SICK against all the creativities running around.
New Modern format means Spike's chat is more idiotic than normal. "Streamer have you considered X? I've been here for 30 seconds. I am very smart. 🤓☝️"

I think he wanted to have it up for next turn for if op had subtlety
I played this deck at my most recent FNM and holy shit did it feel so much better than esper, consistency and power wise

Why mono? Isnt a 2nd color worth it?

Arena can be used for any creature not just red and it can give multiple creatures hast because you can float the other mana for another creature
Deck seems really good.

25:30 so if I want to play aether vial, what should I play?
I'm considering Rakdos+ Persist just so I can run a wider tool box of duders
would it be too creazy to play goryos with creativity?
Orvar is the best SB card
It's a dragon/demon/angel for khalia. And ephemerate in the deck gives you a clone effect if in play. 20/20

@@tricky5222being able to goryos for kaalia and then keep the biggun around is also probably a nonzero consideration I'd imagine?

One more mana and still dies to unholy hit could be the doom of Ilharg. But it doesn’t die to push so it could still be worth trying tho!
Also improved: Sanctifier en-Vec
Priest would have been a turn 3 Atraxa in that first game and you probably wouldn't have lost.
Just sayin'.
Now this is my kind of brew! 🍻
Cool deck
Fear of Missing Out should have had "Fear" printed on it!
Can Griselshoal do better?
This looks like my type of deck. Wonder if I can build it for fnm next week.
Kanister infect deck is busted all the best sideboard cards for current meta

When we circle back to blue belcher i'd like to suggest sky hussar free draw card
But, Spike... Hear me out. I got this cool new deck you should see...

My god cut the white
Ephemerate is a pretty important card my guy
