I like Halloween 5! I understand its criticisms but it has a huge nostalgic pull for me. I think that Halloween 4 and 5 actually capture the spirit and mood of Halloween the best in the franchise. I love following Jamie trick-or-treating in Halloween 4. It’s the only film we really see that in, and as a kid that made it so relatable and fun for me.
Trust me you're not. I love it. It is only mid ranking for me, but only because i love a few others even more. I think Danielle Harris and Donald Pleasence were fantastic in it. Neither Tina or the comedy cops annoyed me. I just wish Rachel had survived a bit longer, and Michael escaped himself at the end, without help.

On rewatch, its still good but it does feel kind of egregious in how different it is from Kills. Halloween 5 *tries* to be a story about a cursed princess who overcomes her curse and tries to free her uncle of his. Allow me to try and explain why I believe that In the original cut of the film before it was re-shot. Michael is awakened on a slab by a dark magician, or warlock, if you will. Dr. Death as he’s been dubbed by fans Why that scene works where the re-shot one in the theatrical version doesn’t, is because Michael’s mask has elongated, almost classically attractive features. It’s not a coincidence. It’s also not a coincidence that he looks somewhat attractive and has classically handsome features without the mask. As if…he’s a prince…a cursed prince being awoken once more. That fits with the ideas, a hermit holding Michael hostage just doesn’t. Next I ask you to pay attention to the Halloween costumes the characters are wearing: The Devil, Werwolf, Little Red Riding Hood, Jamie is a princess, Billy is a pirate, etc. When Loomis confronts Michael in the woods with the fog rolling and Michael partially concealed by trees, tell me that shot isn’t framed and set up like something out of a fantasy movie. There’s a pov shot of Michael watching Jamie from across the street. The shot is of Jamie in the “castle” turret combing her hair(rapunzel), the castle is guarded by police(knights) until they’re called away. Jamie and her cop/knight attempt to rappel down the castle turret on a rope(rapunzel again), the castle has a booby trap(courtesy of Dr. Loomis), Jamie lays in a coffin like sleeping beauty while Michael stands over her, Jaime the princess tries to reach her uncle and manages to draw out a rare moment of vulnerability and regret before the evil reclaims him; and then the film ends with Michael in a dungeon. And finally notice how there’s fire on some of the bars of the dungeon…as if they’re torches. Now…does it succeed in this vision? Ehhh. But it tried something unique for the franchise. Now let’s be clear do I think Girard set out to make an exploitation film that is also at its core a fairytale? Who’s to say? Regardless, I believe that this entry ended up being arguably the most ambitious of all the Halloween films.
I don't pretend to know what the director's intentions were. But I believe that he crafted one of the very few truly great Halloween movies, in the process, whatever his agenda may have initially been. I've pointed out for many years that it adheres to the basic elements of the '78 original to a greater extent than just about any of the sequels. It's all about Michael Myers stalking people, and Loomis stalking HIM...But the aesthetics are superb, as well. I see some of what you are referring to, with regard to the fairy tale feel of the film. The nocturnal forest is as beautifully shot as anything I've ever seen. I don't recall EVER seeing a wooded area at night that looked this magnificent...but there is definitely an ethereal aura about it. The shot of Myers, right after he has killed Tina, and is standing beneath the canopy of fall leaves...it's an EXQUISITE shot...I have to be honest, the first time I saw it, I thought that they had somehow captured the night sky, and that I was seeing stars overhead...of course, it was just a bit of light glinting on the leaves...but the fact that the effect brought to mind starlight says a lot about the visual impact of the scene.... I always thought that there was a trace of a Biblical epic, as well, with regard to Loomis...His final confrontation with Myers always reminded me of Samson. There is a heavy 'redemptive' ambience about Loomis throughout Halloween 5. I think this is a recognition that Halloween 4 made a mistake in keeping Loomis largely out of the action over the second half of the film. When Loomis stands on the porch of the Myers' house, as all the police are leaving, and turns to say, 'Now you'll come, won't you, Michael?' It comes across as a deliberate rebuke to 4, which had him disappear for most of the final 40 minutes or so. This time, he would take matters into his own hands...as it should have ALWAYS been. And when he gets the chance, and actually brings Myers down with brute force...swinging that plank with a strength that he knows he will never have again...there is something brutishly poetic about it...
I agree with you 100% Halloween Ends was amazing! It’s actually at my 2nd spot on my ranking as well! It goes: (best to worst): Halloween 2018, Halloween Ends , Halloween 1978, Halloween H20, Halloween 2 (1981), Halloween RZ1, Halloween Kills, Halloween 4, Halloween 6, Halloween 5 Halloween 3, Halloween RZ 2 and finally Halloween Resurrection. I find it funny how your #1 is 1978 and that’s my #3 and your #3 is my #1 (2018). This was a great list dude!
As a kid Halloween 3 was my number one movie for about 5 years (occasionally switching places with Damien: Omen 2 between 1st and 2nd). Considering i was born in 1980, and i didn't see Halloween 2 until i was in my late teens because it never seemed to be on tv in England back then, so i only had the first and third at least until the 90s when 4, 5, and 6 were on tv here.
I obviously agree with your choice of 13th, as it's the only one i don't like. For me Busta Rhymes harms that film the most, although, there are a lot of other things i don't like about it
One of my favourite franchises, and certainly one i loved thelongest since i was 5 in the mid 80s. I'll give my ranking first, then watch yours to compare it. I love 12 of thesefilms, and in some cases really love them. There is only one i don't like. 13 Resurrection 12 Rob Zombie Halloween 2 11 H20 10 Rob Zombie remake 9 Halloween 5 8 Halloween 6 (Theatrical) 7 Halloween 3 6 Halloween 2018 5 Halloween Ends 4 Halloween 4 3 Halloween 2 (1981) 2 Halloween Kills 1 Halloween (1978)
Even though you can see from the rankings i love the new trilogy, to me Michael and Laurie will always be siblings, and despite the line in 2018 saying different, i choose to think that Alison is mistaken.😋
yeah I really love it. My only criticism is it should have leaned in more with the transferrence of evil to Corey, but it kind of pulled the punch so people could get their Laurie Michael showdown. Otherwise though it was so good.
I think thr characters in Halloween 3 are brilliant, personally. I think Tom Atkins makes a great hero. Just a normal guy who likes the odd drink, and sex. Even as a 6 year old, i fancied Stacey Nelkin (i still do now and i'm 44 😂😂) lol. I thought she did great as Ellie. I love Cochrane, i think he's a great baddie, and i've always loved ever one of the deaths, especially the Kupfer family. Obviously the same as you this is only my own opinion.
Here is my Ranking List of all 13 Halloween-Movies: 1. Halloween (1978): A Horror Movie Classic. 2. Halloween II (1981): A great continuation of Halloween (1978) and my favorite Sequel. 3. Halloween III: Season of the Witch: An underrated Gem. 4. Halloween (2018): A good Sequel. 5. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers: A decent Sequel. 6. Halloween H20: A decent Sequel. 7. Halloween Kills: A pretty meh Sequel. 8. Halloween (2007): A mediore Remake. 9. Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (Theatrical Cut and Producer's Cut): A disjointed mess no matter what Version of it you watch. 10. Halloween 2 (2009): Rob Zombie trying to be Artzy Farzy. It didn't work for me. Sorry 🤷🏻♂️ 11. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers: *FUCK THIS MOVIE!!! It can kiss my Ass!!!* 🖕🏻🤬🖕🏻 12. Halloween: Resurrection: *FUCK THIS MOVIE!!! It can kiss my Ass!!!* 🖕🏻🤬🖕🏻 13. Halloween Ends: *FUCK THIS MOVIE!!! It can kiss my Ass!!!* 🖕🏻🤬🖕🏻
@@BoxOfChocolatez Easy to explain. It's all on the character of Myers. Michael was at least the main antagonst and scary in those movies not some teen who was bullied by highschool band kids. And 5 had awesome Jamie and Loomis and it is very similar in character dinamics as the OG Halloween with Michael stalking his victims and Loomis stalking him, as it should always have been.
@@valeriebreidenstein8362 I thought Loomis was terrible in 5 and Jamie barely had anything to do. I'm glad ends did something different rather than the same thing for the 13th time.
Are you serious? #2? The Season Of Corey Cunningham? 😂😂😂 Hands down THE worst movie of the series! How come people have problems with Busta Rhymes kicking Michael's a$$ but the DGG fanboys are cool with a weak nerd who literally gets his a$$ kicked by teens on the regular pushing Michael around?
Because this Michael is 65 years old, got beaten up and shot by a mob, then lived in a sewer for 4 years. Corey got beaten up because he didn't fight back, which is understandable considering the way the town already views him. I didn't like those scenes much, but they're way better than Busta Rhymes. Other than that, we just have different opinions and that's fine, no need to call people fanboys. I'm completely serious and whatever your ranking is I would take you seriously as well. Thanks for watching.
@@BoxOfChocolatez anytime bro! Thanks for the content! And I wasn't even including you with the DGG fanboys remark, more of a generalization for everyone who dogs films like Season Of The Witch but applaud Ends for being different. Or dog Curse which absolutely tries something different but they're cool with Ends. Know what I mean? I'm 44 so I know firsthand how bad getting old sucks but you don't go from invincible to invalid in 4 years even in your sixties, lol! They should have shown him a little more human than supernatural in the previous two flicks to set up his condition in the third I think.
All good, thanks for clarifying. Luckily many people have been coming around to appreciate Season of the Witch in recent years. I agree Michael's switch from invincible at the end of Kills to disabled at the start of Ends should have been handled better, but I liked the idea they were going for so I was ok enough with it.
My ranking: 1) Halloween (1978) 2) Halloween (2018) 3) Halloween 2 (1980) 4) Halloween 4 5) Halloween 3 6) Halloween Kills 7) Halloween H20 8) Halloween (2007) 9) Halloween Ends 10) Halloween 5 11) Halloween 2 (2009) 12) Halloween 6 13) Halloween Resurrection After writing it down I just realized how many fucking times I have to put the year after the title, jeez :D I really like the new movies, although they have some really bad scripts and maybe I have to watch Ends to appreciate it more... but in the face of part 6 or Resurrection they all feel like oscar material ^^

Considering i was born in 1980, and i didn't see Halloween 2 until i was in my late teens because it never seemed to be on tv in England back then, so i only had the first and third at least until the 90s when 4, 5, and 6 were on tv here.
Eventually i got sick of waiting, and just bought Halloween 2 on VHS, soon after it seemed to be on tv every few weeks lol.
Very surprising your placement for Halloween Ends
Why?
Finally.. a good ranking. I love halloween ends. I love corey cunningham.
I'm glad someone likes ends
Lol thanks, it's nice to see others enjoying it because MANY people do not
I love it too. Great film
I enjoy Ends! 💪💯
I am so happy to see more people who enjoyed Ends! I loved it. It’s my #3.
Me too, it gets a lot of hate lol
1)Halloween (1978)/ 2)Halloween (2018)/3)Halloween H20/ 4)Halloween Ends/5)Halloween Kills/ 6)Halloween Ressurection/ 7)Halloween 3/ 8)Halloween 2 (RZ)/ 9)Halloween (RZ)/ 10) Halloween 2/ 11)Halloween 4/ 12)Halloween curse/ 13)Halloween 5
Aside from this being a terrible ranking, Halloween did not come out in 1989….
@@nocturnaldreamzz I know it didn’t come out in 1989 it came out 1978 and I don’t recall asking for your input on my opinion asshole
This is my ranking:
1: Halloween 2 (1981)
2: Halloween (1978)
3: Halloween h20 (1998)
4: Halloween 4 (1988)
5: Halloween (2018)
6: Halloween 3 (1982)
7: Halloween kills (2021)
8: rob zombie Halloween (2007)
9: Halloween 6 (1995)
10: rz Halloween 2 (2009)
11: Halloween ends (2022)
12: Halloween 5 (1989)
13: Halloween resurrection (2002)
I obviously agree with your choice of 13th, as it's the only one i don't like. For me Busta Rhymes harms that film the most, although, there are a lot of other things i don't like about it
One of my favourite franchises, and certainly one i loved thelongest since i was 5 in the mid 80s. I'll give my ranking first, then watch yours to compare it. I love 12 of thesefilms, and in some cases really love them. There is only one i don't like.
13 Resurrection
12 Rob Zombie Halloween 2
11 H20
10 Rob Zombie remake
9 Halloween 5
8 Halloween 6 (Theatrical)
7 Halloween 3
6 Halloween 2018
5 Halloween Ends
4 Halloween 4
3 Halloween 2 (1981)
2 Halloween Kills
1 Halloween (1978)
Even though you can see from the rankings i love the new trilogy, to me Michael and Laurie will always be siblings, and despite the line in 2018 saying different, i choose to think that Alison is mistaken.😋
Thank you for putting Halloween Ends so high! It's inarguably the most unique and thematic of the series.
yeah I really love it.
OT: OMG, you look like an actor from Friday the 13th: Part 5 New Beginning
The bad guy’s motivation in halloween 3 was he did it for the lols.
Here is my Ranking List of all 13 Halloween-Movies:
Sorry 🤷🏻♂️
11. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers: *FUCK THIS MOVIE!!! It can kiss my Ass!!!* 🖕🏻🤬🖕🏻
12. Halloween: Resurrection: *FUCK THIS MOVIE!!! It can kiss my Ass!!!* 🖕🏻🤬🖕🏻
13. Halloween Ends: *FUCK THIS MOVIE!!! It can kiss my Ass!!!* 🖕🏻🤬🖕🏻
I just can't see how Ends is possibly worse than 5 and Resurrection, but it's all opinion of course.
Ends is only better than Resurrection. The characters were horrible, the story was ridiculous, and the ending was stupid.
The blackest eyes, the devils eyes.
My ranking:
1) Halloween (1978)
2) Halloween (2018)
3) Halloween 2 (1980)
4) Halloween 4
5) Halloween 3
6) Halloween Kills
7) Halloween H20
8) Halloween (2007)
9) Halloween Ends
10) Halloween 5
11) Halloween 2 (2009)
12) Halloween 6
13) Halloween Resurrection
After writing it down I just realized how many fucking times I have to put the year after the title, jeez :D I really like the new movies, although they have some really bad scripts and maybe I have to watch Ends to appreciate it more... but in the face of part 6 or Resurrection they all feel like oscar material ^^
Oof. This list is awful. Anybody who finds Halloween Ends to be top 5 is laughable.
Oof. This comment is awful. Anybody who doesn't respect the subjectivity of art is laughable.
Two hills I will die on: RZ H1 is underrated and has the best mask. Season of the witch is terrible and not even a Halloween movie. Don’t get how it’s become trendy to like a Halloween movie without MM. Might as well just rank hocus pocus at that point.
Amen. When I think of the Halloween franchise I think of Michael. Seems odd ranking that movie in a list of Halloween movies that actually has Myers in it.
And I agree about RZ Halloween. Very underrated and doesn't deserve the hate.
