- The "GMA" co-anchor was featured on the PBS show "Finding Your Roots," after making some unbelievable discoveries about his family that includes generations of land ownership in Texas.

I like to find my roots my mother's name was Esther golden she married to following something from Trinidad and Tobago
My father's name was alwin Samsung my mother name before she married was Esther Garden my grandmother name on my mother's side was love garden on my father's side I don't know
But celebrities can pay for their own if they wanted to. Let him do regular people
@@kaleahcollins4567 what makes you think these celebrities are not paying Dr. Gates staff to find out their family genealogy. He ask celebrities to come on his show to keep the show going, but in Sean Diddy Combs case, he stated he reached out to Dr. Gates because the genealogist was the best. It cost money and time to research such information. Genealogy Roadshow use to do American people. Who do you think you are is another celebrity genealogy show.
Aww I’m glad Shankleville got some recognition! They’re also my ancestors on my Grandma’s side. It’s a really inspiring story that would make a great movie☺️💖

Charlemagne had approximately 20 children. So he has many defendants. Michael Strahan is related to Cindy Crawford. She also found out she was related to Charlemagne.

Was watching Educator Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s show of Michael Strahan's ancestors. It is a bit dubious, as someone mentioned. Gates said Michael can trace his ancestry back to Charlemagne, as Gates called Charlemagne an English King. However, Charlemagne was NOT English but was of Frankish descent, a Germanic tribe. Charlemagne - was never King of England. He was one of many Roman Emperors, called "Holy Roman Emperors" and King of Germany, not of England.
That line was created by the coronation of the Frankish king Charlemagne as Roman emperor by Pope Leo III on Christmas Day in the year 800, thus restoring in their eyes the western Roman Empire that had been leaderless since 476.
Although Charlemagne was crowned Roman Emperor in the West in 800, the first use of the term “Holy Roman Emperor” was applied when Pope John XII crowned Otto, Duke of Saxony, Emperor Otto I on February 3, 962. All Holy Roman Emperors were also Kings of Germany.
That line officially lasted from about 962 till the 16th century,
The last Emperor was Charles V. He was also King of Germany, Spain, Burgundy, Habsburg, etc.
Charles V was the last emperor to be crowned by the pope, and his successor, Ferdinand I, merely adopted the title of "Emperor elect" in 1558. In any case, none of the Emperors was English.
Charlemagne was the first to unite the various Germanic tribes into a larger union, or countries. He was born somewhere between Germany & France [not sure officially where], but he is buried in Aachen, Germany, in a beautiful majestic German Cathedral. In the US we want to make everything English, even when it obviously is not.

Yes, Charlemagne was not English, but all of the royal houses of Europe can trace their line back to him, because the guy had at least 18 children, and those of his children who were legitimate were married off to people in the nobility in OTHER PARTS OF EUROPE. He never called him an English king. Michael Strahan is descended from an English king, who was descended from Charlemagne. When he said “King of England”, he wasn’t talking about Charlemagne - he was talking about the English king in his family tree who was descended from Charlemagne.

Gates seems particularly excited about finding European heritage in African American lineage. He's giddy. Michael seems impressed as well.
Most so called African American aren't African but Europeans and Black Indians mixed. The White man traced in Their was to cover that UP . Like we Have to be Mixed with White Europeans but That is not the Case. That location in Massachusetts his Family immigrated to was Black Scottish whom were Jacobites.
That's because it's the only ancestry African Americans have that is traceable. It's near impossible to find out anything about the African ancestors of black Americans.

@Blu I think most African americans already know many have european dna. It's more of a matter of some of these people actually being proud that their ancestors were violated by their oppressor. any way to get closer. Gates tried to turn his situation into a love story. mixed dna does not make people of African descent any different, regardless of which side of the atlantic they happen to live on. culture can change in 5 minutes. We are all African. believe that.
Most African Americans have some European ancestry. I have quite a bit so not sure he is giddy about it as much as their reaction to learning about it.

People today may be descended from 10 people born about 1900, 100 born about 1800, 1000 about 1700, 10,000 about 1600, 100,000 about 1500, 1,000,000 about 1400, 10,000,000 about 1300. Michael and I share at least one ancestral couple from the 1300's. It's only remarkable that I discovered it.
