Seems like you get a lot in a mid-priced stage piano these days - tons of sounds, but if you're like me, you'll spend 90% of the time on one of the piano patches. 👍😀
If I were the sort of buyer this keyboard is aimed at, one thing I might appreciate at the start of a video like this is some context around what flavor of black boxy keyboard we’re looking at today. For example, this seems to be Roland’s shot at what you might call a “full-size arranger keyboard”, using the zen core engine to create the accompaniment. I might also like to know what an arranger keyboard does and who they’re aimed at (songwriters, buskers), and that it’s competing with the Korg XE and Yamaha PSR lines. Then commence with the sick soulful riffs. Idk, it’s just what this fool believes.
@@HOLLASOUNDS No. The common term for this sort of product is “digital piano”. “Electric piano” is commonly used to refer to electro-mechanical pianos.
It’s more a Roland take on the Clavinova, for those that want arranger functions with a fully weighted Piano keybed. The Piano sound seems upgraded. Sound more bright than the usual muddy Roland sound
As someone that has received a new Roland FP-E50 my review is that it is a great bargain, however I find the bottom placed speakers are weak, which I was able to fix by mounting a pair of iLoud powered speakers... what a dramatic improvement!. It brought the Supernatural sounds to life. It should be noted that the piano sounds are relatively bright, but that allows them to cut through the mix. I like the keyboard action and interface.
Jack defo had a bit of a pine fest for Remie and fancied her. Remie liked him but didn't fancy him. She pushed off to Spain I think and got stuck there coz of the Covid lockdown. Yes I checked 🤣 Zencore is nice but not as good as ACB or the other piano technology Roland has. I had the subscription from a roland but found the Zencore piano's weak.
Ive got the Roland Verselab MV-1 which has the zencore as well. Switching patches per clip is something my mpc one could not do, so i sold it. Now on the mv-1 and im fully enjoying it. The synth engine is amazing, en the sequencing great for my drum & bass breakbeats style. Wonderful stuff
Really good video. Bought this from the ‘Guildford store. Have to say that service was excellent but there was a perhaps a lack of detailed knowledge about the various keyboards. The folks presenting evidently don’t work at the store. But great service. It’d an amazing keyboard. Only downside is the down facing speakers. But it’s remarkable value for money. The Bluetooth is useful. The chord display is incredibly helpful!! Tried most keyboards in the shop between £600-£1500 and this was absolutely the clear winner in terms of value proposition. Keys are lovely and fairly heavy too. Yamaha so light.
I think with the drum backing and the zencore patch ability along with the facility to include overdub recording via aux input and mic the possibility to get very creative and produce some masterpieces is endless using this keyboard !
Jack I understand that your reviews are meant to give viewers the same sense that casual potential buyers would get when they walk into a store, i.e. testing patches, etc. But I have to think that most of your TH-cam subscribers are not casual browsers. I think your viewers would appreciate if you go further than simply running through patches and spend much more time exploring the features of the keyboard, its user interface, etc.
In the end have to take into account that he is doing these videos to sell stuff. I don’t take these video’s as an objective “review”, but see them as a presentation of what to expect. It stands free for everyone to have their own opinion on wether it’s something that fits into their needs.
It’s huuuuge! Even the pitch and mod wheels look tiny in comparison. I’d prefer the traditional roland style pitch and mod. It’s also same pha4 action.
It would be a chef's kiss to add some entry-level synth features to this where you can take an existing sound and tweak the parameters. It doesn't need to be fully programmable, just a little customization. We need to eliminate the barrier between synthesizers and arranger keyboards. Why not both?
The pianos did sound pretty good. But once the accompaniment kicked in with the Zencore sounds, Roland's age began to show. Those sounds PCM sounds from the early 90's are simply no longer cutting edge. You can only recycle certain sounds for so long. Yes, some "classic" sounds are timeless. But a 300 kilobyte fingered bass sample from 1998 is going to sound really artificial nowadays.
That’s the trap: when you know how to play cool like Jack, you think “man I need this, I’m gonna get my groove on!” But then when you get the product, your wife throws a brick 🧱
The chord sequencer is a potential game changer for arrangers, especially for piano players. It's like having band in a box or iReal pro built into your keyboard; you can input an entire song, and then play along FREELY with both hands!
I'm seeing this listed as cheaper than an FP-60X. It seems to have the same action and a lot more features. What does the 60X have to justify it, at a premium, over this?
I have both. Fp60x has much better speakers, if you compare them side by side the fp60x sounds better, even with headphones, i don't know why. It's built with higher quality components (metal exterior, not cheap plastic lime the e50), more standard piano sounds, fewer weird or funny sounds, it feels like a much better product overall, more premium

The Roland is lighter and easier to move around, would be easier if you ever think about gigging. DGX is a part of the Yamaha soundsphere culture. Tons of extra styles and voices out there from other Yamaha users.... Midi interface isn't quite clear with either....which way or you leaning? have you tested them both?
The problem with the Zencore engine is that it doesn't use a lot of samples for the piano's. I have only tested it on the MC101 but I got dissapointed, you have usually only 3-4 samples for the keys, and playing really softly is just plain impossible. There are a couple of presets that are decent, but once you start looking into them by playing very dynamically they don't do so well. I'd stick with the supernatural pianos.
@@jamesfranklin8825 No, I thought the piano sounds would use Zencore, but they use the Supernatural Engine which is good enough. I think in this case the FP-50 just has the zencore engine to add 1000+ extra presets, but I haven't seen any editing for it. I don't expect it to be there, there are not a lot of buttons on the unit that would allow this anyway (in a useful manner).
I've got a FP-60X that this model kills. More features and cheaper. That being said, I don't care about accompagnements and that's a lot of useless buttons. But the big screen seems nice.

Love Roland gear but I absolutely hate their support. Been trying to get a warranty repair done on my FP-30X for over 5 months.
If you feel a brand or service is not giving the service you where promised then you need to contact a watchdog service.
Price?
I want Roland piano
13:13 gives me Glee PTSD 🤣
Roland from library of ruina on the nintendo switch??
this or rd88 ? this just seems a bit too heavy
If you don't need the accompaniment/ arranger features... Definitely the RD-88. Now, though, I'd consider the Yamaha CK series.
the piano vids really let jack show off
MIDI connectivity? Any buyer to give a honest review?
I’m not sure which to get
yamaha DGX-670 or this Roland E50.
I have texted both but wow still need a push. Anyone have a choice.
No remy?
Sounds like every other 🎹
Nuts .
Love the playing.. can make a cheesy-ass keyboard sound fun! lol
Hermano cuántos kilos pesa???
Where’s Remi from Roland?😢
So it's basically a modified MC707 (Zencore engine) with keys. Interesting. 🎹
@@joep-jams it's got zencore and supernatural on board - are you saying some of the pianos will use zencore and wont be as nice?
@@jamesfranklin8825 No, I thought the piano sounds would use Zencore, but they use the Supernatural Engine which is good enough. I think in this case the FP-50 just has the zencore engine to add 1000+ extra presets, but I haven't seen any editing for it. I don't expect it to be there, there are not a lot of buttons on the unit that would allow this anyway (in a useful manner).
Sixt....NICEEEE! If you know what i mean.
Wtf?! This sounds great!
You're playing in the wrong register for cello, mate.
YAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Before watching, let me guess. Its an over-priced instrument with the same old Roland CPU and sound-engine inside?
It's an electric piano for those who dont want a midi keyboard or a real piano. Roland has products on all price ranges.
Exactly. Same ole harsh horrible 90's samples.
Actually it even sounds like their piano tones are getting worse. Which I thought was impossible.
@@ChrisP3000x you don't like the sound of metal scraping on metal?
@@michaelmoore1697 Ohhh, it's just a personal preference......😁
Displaying you lack of knowledge publicly again I see 😂
❤️ 👍
Please tell me the damper pedal does half-damping?
Feckin’ genius. 😂
I've got a FP-60X that this model kills. More features and cheaper.
That being said, I don't care about accompagnements and that's a lot of useless buttons. But the big screen seems nice.
Lol.. The keyboard to play at piss up parties to impress your drunken friends 😂 pianos sound nice though.
