Now, i did say MOST of us..... unfortunately, I fear, that's just not so in your particular case.... because any man who is certifiably insane enough to wind up his three sisters, and on video, no less, will be gardening inside a locked cupboard. Poor Ken....and I so enjoyed his videos..🫣🌹

Our roses never got to prove their potential, the constant rain made our third and fourth flushes a total washout. Let see what next year will have installed for us. Take care 😀
Hi Ken, I can't get over how many rose blooms you've got for this time of the year. Molineaux looks amazing. I don't think I've ever seen lilies in flower in an October garden. This has been the worst year that I've ever known for slugs and they all look like they've been on steroids. You're not alone in struggling with Salvias. Everyone seems to grow them so easily but they just don't like my soil. The two in pots have been better but no doubt the cold temperatures we're bound to have will finish them off. So this year I’d thought I’d give it another go and bought 3 dozens of babies. Two days in the ground and the slugs 🐌 have gauge themselves. At least I know I’m not the only one to have problem growing salvias. All these year growing lilies I’d always thought Lilly Beatles were my worst nightmare up until yesterday when I noticed slugs were also making a meal. I can see you’ve been busy planting your spring bulbs in already !! Well done for bracing this damp weather and venturing outside. Take care Wendy and have a safe and warm 6 months ahead. Ps . Might be little early to say this but I’ll take this opportunity to wish you and you family a pleasant and happy Christmas 🤶
Hi Ken, thanks for the walk around your lovely roses. I hope your sisters won't punish you for your funny comments, I know Lin has a good sense of humour, I think you'll be ok haha you do make us all laugh though ! This year has been challenging that's for sure, so wet. My roses are still going well but we start later than you up here, Penelope, Ghislaine, Olivia, Blush Noisette, Elizabeth and Strawberry Hill are flowering. The weather not too bad this week so fingers crossed we get a few more days in our gardens. Whatever you're up to I hope you have a good week, take care.

Yes Lin was in Turkey last week and she got sunburned by the Mediterranean heat whilst we had to endure daily downpours. I must admit I was little jealous of her hence this humour has been provoked. I should know not to mess with women’s by now🥲. Just as well the others lives far away!!! They’ve would have forgotten this incident by then… phew 😰 The weather forecast next week is looking promising, our last throw of the dice. Have a great week Linda.
Hi Ken your roses still in good shape for the weather we have in England. My good performers still with many blooms, Olivia rose Austin, desdemona, Rahl Dahl, septer'd isle, TPW. Others with still few blooms, GJ, Boscobel, timeless purple rose, pink Eden, PCDM. Yes, DA Moulineux rose is good performer in my garden. Thanks for sharing your experience of many roses in your garden. 👍
@@Raj-45a Hi Raj, I know tell me about it. We’ve had non stop rain for past two weeks and never really got to enjoy Third or fourth flushes. You literally have everything that I have except I don’t have PCDM, luckily I have one coming in autumn and few others most of which are Meiland and all the timeless collections. Thanks for sharing. My October roses look so sad but royal jubilee, Laguna, Olivia rose, fairy rose and pink flower carpet are still flowering. Penelope lively has lots of buds (last year she flowered until I pruned her in November) and twilight zone. The slugs have been out of control this year. I finally had enough and used nematodes and it seems to have helped. Will probably use again next year as the slugs decimated so many blooms.
@@kylathomas68 Hi kyla, yes these slugs certainly have given me all sort of problems. Earlier this year I bought an established salvia from b&q, two days the whole plant had been eaten bare. Whether it will come back again I’m not sure. I’m definitely stocking up on slug pellets that for sure.

Thanks for the tour Ken. I have the same issue with Bethsheba, it produces more buds than any other rose in the garden but if there's any rain at all they ball up and never develop into roses,

Don't blame Lin for your rose buying - we know that you are just a hopeless addict like the rest of us, and Lin is a wonderful caring sister looking out for you. You're lucky to have her! Bathsheba is a strong-growing rose, I agree. I think my Golden Celebration is quite prone to black spot too, but this year's blooms have saved her from the chop. I am really looking forward to seeing my Bring Me Sunshine next summer now - everyone seems to find it a great performer. I shall be expecting another rose-filled video from you next month after the rains have stopped!

You really have caught me red handed Nik, my sister was just an excuse to stock up a few more roses for next year. It’s always good to have an excuse don’t you think? Earlier today I shovel prune Darcy bussell and Heidi klum in replace for better performing roses. I didn’t have the heart to dig out golden celebration. Will give it another year at most. fingers crossed we get warmer weather coming our way.

@kenvoong5977 I am trying to "rationalise" I think is the word they use for sacking people, so I donated a good number of roses to my sister-in-law, even new ones from last autumn because they failed to meet my expectations. Also my wife tells me I am cutting down on pots, and I want to see how the planting in the new beds goes this autumn. I have ordered two more Sweet Honeys because they are just amazing, but that's it. I am being ruthless about what I plant in the garden - I see now that I have a strong preference for bigger bushes, so I want to give them the space to flourish, although I will lose out on variety. I am more likely to buy other DA roses so will be keen to see yours and others' online and to get recommendations and descriptions of how they grow in people's gardens.
Thank you Ken for showing your roses in Autumn. Please tell where you buy roses from Kordes etc…. DA roses are sold in most garden centres but not others. Tx again❤❤❤

I will definitely go for Olivia rose and buy one or too more of Lady of Shalot. It is doing řekly well in our rather harsh weather conditions. @@janadvorakova3646 Hi Jana, Olivia and lady shallot is a must have must. Anyone who has these two rose will no doubt highly recommend them. If you are considering purchasing more in the future, eustacia vye, Gabriel oak, James L Austin, Gertrude Jekyll , Emily Brontë boscabel, princess Alexandra and Grace are great choices. Meiland on the the other hand have impressed me most. It’s fragrant and long lasting blooms is hard to beat, but unfortunately the blooms on meiland isn’t as pretty as David Austin. Happy gardening 🧑🌾

@@nikkonch Hi Nik, the blooms on Roald Dahl is cupped shape and molineu opens flat and have no scent. In my opinion Molineu flowers more and has great disease resistant, although Roald Dahl isn’t far off. Molineu is a very tall and upright growing shrub similar to queen of Sweden. My choice would be molineu but depending where you want to place her. Harlow car has lots of small flowers and extremely thorny ( I wouldn’t recommend). Penelope isn’t quite established yet but a very compact variety with beautiful fragrant blooms. My Penelope lively has been little floppy so far. I have her in a tall pot so I kinda like how she drapes downwards. In the case of choosing Harlow Carr or Penelope, Penelope no doubt wins its hands down. I just received Abraham Darby , Evelyn and few others today from Trevor white , with more coming from eastcroft most of which are Meiland. Yes I’m looking forward to another shipment from Netherlands later. My only problem now is how I’m going to house them.😢😢. I haven’t been particularly fond of Kordes due to their late flowering pattern, hence I’m not buying anymore. With your wife’s permission. I would create another round rose bed right in the middle of your garden. Time to be nice 😊

@@kenvoong5977 Thought you might like to know what I've chosen, Ken - based mainly on your advice, so I can blame you if I'm unhappy! I've ordered 3 DA bare roots - Molineux, Penelope Lively and The Lady Gardener. I was havering, wavering between Penelope and Olivia which you also praised in your video, but I thought in the end that Olivia looked too much like other pink roses. The Lady Gardener appealed to me as "different" in colour and shape, and Gardener Ben seemed taken with it, so although I am worried it may be too pale/ washed out for my taste, I added that to my basket.
@Hi Nik, yes you’ve made 3 good choices. It’s really difficult to differentiate Olivia and ancient Mariner other than the scent.Penelope no doubt was a better choice in your case as you have so many ancient Mariner. I have been very pleased with lady gardener for the scent and vigorous habit. Her colour is similar to your Abraham Darby. I have been fortunate to get hold of Abraham and Evelyn both are discontinued and planted them in a pot today. Still waiting for lots more. I’m so looking forward to another unforgettable next season . Can’t wait to hear your views on your recent purchases.
@@kenvoong5977 Yes Ken, I saw Lin's video. Bare roots delivered in October - I think I didn't get mine until December last year! I don't know how you and Lin find these roses I've never heard of, but that makes it interesting. I've been away for over a fortnight so my garden is a bit (very) untidy at the moment, especially after the heavy rain which caused local flooding. But my big Ancient Mariner and Sweet Honey have got a fair number of flowers on them still, and LoS is looking as though it may produce a lot more too. I'm happy to hear you approve of The Lady Gardener - that's the one I was least certain about.

I have been very pleased with lady gardener for the scent and vigorous habit. Her colour is similar to your Abraham Darby. I have been fortunate to get hold of Abraham and Evelyn both are discontinued and planted them in a pot today. Still waiting for lots more. I’m so looking forward to another unforgettable next season . Can’t wait to hear your views on your recent purchases.
@@kenvoong5977 Yes Ken, I saw Lin's video. Bare roots delivered in October - I think I didn't get mine until December last year! I don't know how you and Lin find these roses I've never heard of, but that makes it interesting. I've been away for over a fortnight so my garden is a bit (very) untidy at the moment, especially after the heavy rain which caused local flooding. But my big Ancient Mariner and Sweet Honey have got a fair number of flowers on them still, and LoS is looking as though it may produce a lot more too. I'm happy to hear you approve of The Lady Gardener - that's the one I was least certain about.
