This sounds like my parent’s story. My father is from the pind in Punjab but came Canada in 1988 and my mother is from Calcutta. And my nanaji didn’t care anything about my dad’s family like how much money they have or anything. All they saw was my dad works very hard, doesn’t drink, or eat meat. My father’s family wasn’t wealth, and they saw a lot of poverty. My mother’s side of the family was wealthy, and her great nanaji was born in the UK. But moral of story is, both my parents respect each other, worked hard and have everything today here in Canada. Not only that, they ensured that both my brother and I never forget our roots, culture and religion. We recite Gurbani, speak Punjabi fluently and can read and write too. I’m very thankful for my nanaji’s decision.

What a beautiful family ❤. I really hope you see this comment. It might make a big difference in the situation that I am in. Our punjabi community’s mindset is stuck in the caste system. Which has had a big impact on our generation today. In my situation..I want to marry a boy who is from a Schedule Caste, for me it doesn’t matter at all!! But for my family and my parents, it is the end of the world. They think it’s such a shame that I have even thought about this. That I am an extreme disappointment and their reputation in the society is going to go down if anyone even finds about this. They say that there is no match! Either you chose to stay with that boy and if I take that step, then I should not even think about seeing their face ever again. How can we completely change everyone’s opinion? How can we educate them? I feel so helpless! I don’t want to break my parents heart but then I have to make this big sacrifice to lose the person that I love.. they are not even ready to consider that what the family is like..for them the caste is everything. It breaks my heart every single time when I think about it and feel so helpless because I alone am not able to make a difference. Please make a video sharing your thoughts about this, how can we make a difference, how can we educate them, Parents need to understand this that if they are ready to accept this and if they are standing by their kids then Nobody can affect us or say something. This sounds like my parent’s story. My father is from the pind in Punjab but came Canada in 1988 and my mother is from Calcutta.
And my nanaji didn’t care anything about my dad’s family like how much money they have or anything. All they saw was my dad works very hard, doesn’t drink, or eat meat. My father’s family wasn’t wealth, and they saw a lot of poverty. My mother’s side of the family was wealthy, and her great nanaji was born in the UK. But moral of story is, both my parents respect each other, worked hard and have everything today here in Canada. Not only that, they ensured that both my brother and I never forget our roots, culture and religion. We recite Gurbani, speak Punjabi fluently and can read and write too.
I’m very thankful for my nanaji’s decision.

What a beautiful family ❤. I really hope you see this comment. It might make a big difference in the situation that I am in. Our punjabi community’s mindset is stuck in the caste system. Which has had a big impact on our generation today. In my situation..I want to marry a boy who is from a Schedule Caste, for me it doesn’t matter at all!! But for my family and my parents, it is the end of the world. They think it’s such a shame that I have even thought about this. That I am an extreme disappointment and their reputation in the society is going to go down if anyone even finds about this. They say that there is no match! Either you chose to stay with that boy and if I take that step, then I should not even think about seeing their face ever again. How can we completely change everyone’s opinion? How can we educate them? I feel so helpless! I don’t want to break my parents heart but then I have to make this big sacrifice to lose the person that I love.. they are not even ready to consider that what the family is like..for them the caste is everything. It breaks my heart every single time when I think about it and feel so helpless because I alone am not able to make a difference. Please make a video sharing your thoughts about this, how can we make a difference, how can we educate them, Parents need to understand this that if they are ready to accept this and if they are standing by their kids then Nobody can affect us or say something. Because our parents support is the only thing that matters.
