    Winning the CL with Vaduz on Football Manager is the final boss of challenges, you have to win the Conference League to get in the Europa League, then win that the next season when you are in it, then win the Champions League in that next year too. So all three European competitions in a row, if you fail to win the EL or CL at the first attempt, you go back to the beginning

    • @exsandgrounder
      @exsandgrounder 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Yes, and like Monaco, they have club sides that compete "abroad" (in England of course), although given they're not as good as Monaco they have less to lose.
      I'm a Guernsey resident and I think there would be sufficient national pride to support FIFA accession, plus there is sufficient local base to form a national team. Meanwhile, there is the Island Games and Muratti Vase that "national" teams from both islands compete in.
      There has been some talent from the islands too, with Graeme le Saux (Jersey) and Matt le Tissier (Guernsey), and Alex Scott of Guernsey is now a Premier League player.
      According to Wikipedia, Jersey's FA was considering accession to CONCACAF last year in a quote from the Greenland manager.

      @@gvogas I believe but I could be wrong, that UEFA essentially told the 4 big Welsh clubs that if they continued to compete in the Welsh cup they would have to become full members of the FAW and be classified as a “guest” in England and that would mean their only route (like Vaduz) to enter European competition would now be through the Welsh cup. So now as you say they are de jure English clubs but de facto Welsh. But I think the comparison stands because it’s precisely what the Welsh clubs (which operate more akin to how Monaco does today) would have been faced with.

    Did you notice, in Monaco's results, a 0-10 defeat to Ellan Vannin? Did you think "who are Ellan Vannin?"? I'll explain.
    Ellan Vannin is the name given to the team put out by the Manx International Football Association. MIFA is a ConIFA member, but not affiliated with the Isle of Man FA. The IOMFA acts as a County FA under the FA.
    MIFA and the IOMFA have an agreement under which any players playing on the Isle of Man are eligible to represent Ellan Vannin, therefore making the Ellan Vannin team a _de facto_ Isle of Man Football League representative side, although not the official IOMFL representative side that competes in the FA Inter-League Cup and has represented England in the UEFA Regions' Cup twice (2007 and 2015).

    A Monaco national team could actually result in the development of more Monégasque footballers, but the French FA likely wouldn’t let them do it even if they wanted to.
    Also they could still support AS Monaco as a club team on the side if UEFA theoretically granted them an exception from having to need a league.

    Nice video! But don't forget that Monaco were able to boost the quality of the squad via the money they gained because of their tax climate. And while the nightmare scenario for the Monaco national team would be an empty stadium, AS Monaco barely ever play for a sold-out stadium. In fact, I think they should be lucky if they sell 50% of the tickets for their home matches...

    Jokes aside, i think it gets complicated in a country that effectively allows you to become a citizen by payment and/or sheer will of its governor.
    Potentially the Prince of Monaco could put together an entirely foreign squad before the round of next call ups by just handing out passports to every talented 18yo or uncapped "slow burner" in the world immediately establishing themselves way above their weightclass.
