I simply MUST tell someone who will truly appreciate my accomplishment today! I made turkey bone broth earlier this week and put it in a jar in the fridge for today. Well, today, I opened the jar and scooped the fat off the top and I noticed a nice thick broth under the fat. I stuck my spoon into the broth and lo and behold, the spoon stood up straight! I am so proud of that broth and it was delicious too!!!! It’s the first time I have ever been able to achieve a truly solid congealed broth. It literally made my whole day to make my dressing and gravy with that fabulous broth! 🎉🎉🎉
I just want y’all to know that I harvested beets and carrots from my garden today, washed and roasted them for thanksgiving dinner. I would have never thought that would happen a few years ago. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Especially you, Jess, and your family! 🥕
The tradition I started 35+ years ago with my kids, gingerbread houses. Each child got to decorate their own house. That tradition has now spread to my 9 grandchildren, each child gets their our house to decorate after Thanksgiving dinner. They love it and look forward to the evening. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
My mom consistently made us "first day of school cookies until we graduated ." Well, fast forward to me becoming a teacher. My mom still makes me first day of school cookies. I'm fifty years old.
I only make my grandma Sandy's monster cookies at Christmas time. They are everyone's favorite. I could absolutely make them other times of the year, but I don't. The only other tradition that we do is we use paper napkins with the wrong holiday's decor on them. It was something that made folks laugh during a time when my great grandfather had cancer. Now it happens every holiday. This thanksgiving, we will be using valentines day napkins. Happy thanksgiving, everyone!
It's so lovely to see you this Thanksgiving morning. Thank you for spending some time with your youtube family today. I hope you have a beautiful day with your family!
When my kids were little, and we lived in Scotland, their Mom left me for a Deacon in the Church where I was Pastor. That was decades ago. I resigned from the Church and got a job. The kids would come to my house every Sunday to go to Church. Along with every other weekend. Every Sunday, for dinner I would ask them what they wanted. It was always a generic box of Mac and Cheese (blech), to which I would add real butter and extra Scottish Sharp Cheddar. Trust me, that's the good stuff. The kids loved it. Every Sunday for years they wanted it. It became a tradition. When I had to return to the states they would come to my house. And spend their summer. Every Sunday they wanted Cheesy Pasta, as they called it. Now they're adults, with jobs, and kids. And if we all get together, they want Mac and cheese. Never good home made, but generic from a box. Because it's tradition. I hate the stuff. But when my kids, in their 40s are around, there will always be a box in the cupboard. Thanks for stirring that memory, Jess. Happy Thanksgiving!!
I’m alone for thanksgiving while my daughter and grands are with my ex’s family. Thank you for sharing your lovely self and kiddos with those of us who look for family time elsewhere!
I feel you and want you to know that you are not alone... May the Holy spirit comfort you in this time of loneliness and fill your home with peace... ❤
Ah, the memories! Thanksgivings at grandma's. 4 aunts and mom on cleanup duty. 70yrs later though all are gone those memories remain! HAPPY THANKSGIVING, DEAR ❤
My family always made what we call ‘Kris Kringles’. They are peanut butter rice crispy treats with melted dark chocolate and butterscotch topping. This was our Christmas tradition my whole life. A few years ago I asked my grandma where she learned to make them thinking she would tell me about a family recipe tradition. I was shocked when she told me she found it one day on the side of a rice crispy cereal box.😂
I’ve come to realize my broccoli cheese casserole has become a family tradition!! It’s from my best friends’s mom who was oh so special to me after my parents were deceased!! Thanks for your families tradition. So many in our family are Gluten Free so it’s wonderful to not have to worry about gluten when we get together!!
Growing up, my dad taught me to make his amazing cornbread stuffing for Thanksgiving and tons of zucchini bread loaves for Christmas gifts. We always used this giant blue/ white ceramic mixing bowl to make those 2 recipes. He passed 9 years ago, and now, every year, when I pull that big bowl out (still for just those 2 recipes), it feels like dad's in the kitchen. Years of pouring ingredients into that bowl and now it's full of love and memories.
Hello! I have a similar story of my mom's bowl. I remember standing and watching her make potato salad, the first of the year was always on Easter with the dyed eggs, and many other things were also stirred up in that bowl. I wanted and now have that bowl and use it often, feeling my mom's presence at all the gatherings I take it to. Aren't memories wonderful?!! Thanks for sharing yours!
I teared up when Ezra came into the kitchen and said the pinwheels make him think of Thanksgiving, and they make him happy. 🥹 Lifes simple pleasures yet so profound. ❤️ So precious. Plus, I have been a subscriber since your first year on TH-cam, so yall feel like family. The boys have grown up so fast before our eyes. You are doing an AMAZING job raising these sweet humans, Mia and Jess. I feel blessed that you have shared your wonderful family with us over the years. Love yall and Happy Thanksgiving. 🫂 🦃 🥧 ❤️
Being 74, I have tried to make lots of memories and traditions with all our children and grandchildren. Special memories for very special people. Thank you Jess for sharing. I have made sausage balls for years and Breakfast casserole for Christmas. This year I think I will add y’all’s sausage pinwheels. I think my family would like those. Lord bless you all.❤️✝️🙏🦃🎄
My familys long-time tradition has been my mom making her amazing potato soup every Christmas eve for supper. For over 20 years now. You know where she got the infamous recipe that everyone absolutely LOVES? From me when I brought home the recipe we were making in my 7th grade home-ec class. 🤷♀️😆 🤣 😂 Everyone for years and years have always said your mom makes the BEST potato soup, and I smile and say, yup, she sure does. 😊❤
This was such a fun morning. I love family traditions. The traditions of a family is what binds you together. Happy Thanksgiving I hope you and your family have a wonderful day full of memories.
Happy Thanksgiving! Another trick for cutting the roll, especially if you don't have time to stick them in the freezer, is to use a piece of thread. Wrap the thread once around the log & pull the ends to slice the dough. My family's Thanksgiving tradition is 'something different'. Every year, we make a non-traditional dish in addition to all the traditional ones. Anything from a beef wellington one year to a pasta timpano to curries. Basically, anything goes and we all get to try a new dish - usually one far to complicated to make at any other time.
Hi Jess! I hope you and your family had a wonderful thanksgiving! I was in the hospital for a few days and released early Thursday afternoon and came home to my daughters cooking a beautiful dinner. I can’t tell you how proud I was of them pulling it off. I’m the one who usually cooks the dinner. God willing I’ll be able to cook Christmas dinner. God bless ☺️❤️
Sausage balls have been a Christmas tradition for as long as I can remember! I only recently learned that they are a southern thing when I introduced them to my coworkers here in New England. Watching this felt like being in the kitchen with my own aunts when I was a kid! ❤
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Homemade cinnamon rolls with sausage and bacon on the side are our tradition for Christmas morning. This year we will also be eating our very own meat that we raised, butchered, and processed ourselves!
I made the sausage pinwheels for my Mom this morning. She has mobility issues and is having more issues feeding herself. Things she can pick up and hold to eat work best. She absolutely loved these! They held together really well and made her breakfast a pleasure instead of a challenge. Thanks Jess!
What a wonderful blessing to have a video from you on this day! You have blessed my life with much needed new hope and help with a change of direction this year, though we have never met. I am thankful for you and your family, Jess. May God bless you richly on this day.
To Jess and all of the Sowards and extended family and friends, I hope you all have a wonderful day and dinner. I can't imagine not having a wonderful day with y'all!! Such a beautiful family!! Take care and God bless always!! 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏
My mom's name is Ann and she makes sausage pinwheels for special occasions so they always feel so special!! I love feeding people i love so thanks for reminding me that it can be simple! Happy Thanksgiving ❤❤
Sister Jess. That part about helping out the cooks in your house, was a public service announcement tysm! 💖 You're absolutely right when we've got a little help we're doing all the cooking it makes joy for the cook as well. It was very heart warming to see your morning tradition. In my house part of the meal kind of spreads out through the day so they either eat on what was already being prepared for Thanksgiving or they just gotta be hungry for awhile.😅 This morning I let him have at the pie. Well they were waiting on other things.😂🤷🏼♀️
This made me question what my daughter thought were traditions for us. I sent her a text asking and I’m looking forward to seeing her answer. Thank you for sharing and making me realize how important traditions are. ❤
So now thousands of families across the country will be starting Aunt Ann's tradition of sausage pinwheels and your sausage balls. :D These look so good. Every Christmas morning we make orange flavored french toast. I just put a little orange flavoring in the egg, milk, and cinnamon sugar mixture. So bacon and french toast is our tradition, next year I'll make the pinwheels and sausage balls for Thanksgiving morning.
I got home a little bit ago from our Thanksgiving adventures, and I wanted to say thank you for sharing your morning with me. I also wanted to share the blessing that is my husband, much like your husband and family members who help you in the kitchen. I have health issues that both make it hard to do certain activities, and affect my endurance. After making our gifted 22lb turkey (a huge blessing from a friend) my husband helped me chop potatoes, and put together the green bean casserole. As making the the pumpkin cheesecake took more out of me than I expected, and made my left hand go knumb for an hour. I was able yo make the gravy on my own though. A friend came over who had no local family, and then we brought lots of leftovers to my mom, and my husband's mom & brother. I still need to make turkey broth in the next couple days, and freeze some of the turkey; but what a blessing today has been. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! ❤
Happy Thanksgiving, Jess! My grandmother had 10 kids and was the master of stretching her dollar. I think our Christmas tradition breakfast originated with extra bread dough. She cut the dough into rough chunks, fist size, and fried them. These were served with syrup and butter on the side. You break off a bit of golden fried dough, dip in the butter, and then the syrup. It's heaven. I grew up eating this as our traditional Christmas breakfast and continued it with my children. My kids, now with their own kids, make this for Christmas breakfast. It's not the healthiest thing, so I have fruit and bacon too. But it makes me so happy to have my grandchildren look so forward to Frybreads every Christmas. It's love and tradition that i hope they carry on. As for Thanksgiving, I always make the whole meal. All from scratch. I was up at midnight last night getting sourdough proofing for our biscuits today. From the homemade bread i used for the stuffing, to the gravy, I would never do anything but scratch. It's of course better, but it's the love I put in that makes me happy to give that to my family. I hope thats a tradition they continue as well. Bless you and your sweet family.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. I made steak and eggs for Brunch and cooked my turkey and pumpkin pies yesterday, ready to go today. Now I make dressing, turnip mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and peach cobbler. We will eat tonight about 6 or 7 also.
Jess I hope you see this and it makes you smile!! I have captions turned on and when you shot a close up of the coffee bloom, the caption said [applause] and that is exactly how one should feel when their coffee is brewing🤎🤎🤎
Happy Thanksgiving! My consistent food for Christmas morning is French Toast casserole. I soak hamburger or hotdog buns torn into pieces in eggs, half and half, brown sugar, and vanilla. Mixed in a gallon zip lock bag the night before, pour into a buttered 9 x 12 deep dish, and bake until your preferred doneness!
House looks great Jess! Your hard work is apparent. As an only child it blows my mind to hear of your huge family. And to hear you say you're ONLY cooking for 20-25 people too lol. Thanks for the pinwheel family recipe. Who doesn't love sausage balls also???!!! I too cook with no measurements but my ancestor's spirits guiding me. Help cleaning is blessing. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
You bring back memories of when my boys were kids at home. We only had two but what blessings they are!! Best wishes for the upcoming season. Like you, I'll be doing a lot of baking -- my wife has lost most of her eyesight. God bless you and your family!
I made your sausage pinwheels this week for a work party on our homestead and oh my, they were a massive hit. Thanks for sharing. I so enjoy yours and Miahs posts. Thank you for thinking of us.
We are now in an apartment and i have had to reel in my cooking chaos. I've had to learn to clean during my prep because of lack of space. Whenever my husband walks into the kitchen and just starts washing the dishes, i could cry. It's so stinking helpful! Happy Thanksgiving 🫶
My mother is long gone but I remember her making gravy in the big roasting tin after the meat & potatoes were removed, stirring the flour well in & adding the strained veg water (it was the 60s so everything boiled not steamed) & you had to stir fast in little corners & not neglect any part of the pan. Then seasonings & gravy browning & a perfect, delicious just pourable gravy. She made lovely spice buns & they didn’t last long! I suppose it was a nod to Welsh cakes or bara brith as she was part Welsh ❤
Happy thanksgiving to one gluten free mama to another. I have been cooking gf for fourteen years and I think I will try making the sausage balls for Christmas. Cooking and mastering gluten free cooking is a science in itself. My turkey bone broth is in the oven for tomorrow.
My mother made sausage pinwheels. Now I make them for my kids and grandchild. The only difference is I use the crescent sheets, so much easier! Happy Thanksgiving!
💚 Thanks Jess, for spending some precious Thanksgiving time with us. I'm actually going out to eat for the first time ever on Thanksgiving! But 2moro I'll be cooking the turkey and other favorites. Last year I made your Fig Balsamic Stuffing and I'm going to make it again 2moro. I'll be using some of the dried figs my Dad loved so much. Both my parents have recently passed, no more family holidays with them. Still making some family favorite traditions, however. Happy Thanksgiving to you All! 🍁🦃🍊💚
Traditions are so special. Every thanksgiving I take my grandmothers Swiss green bean casserole to my sister’s, it is requested by my nieces and nephews and is fun to carry on a traditional recipe!
I laughed a little in solidarity, as I bit into my chicken salad bagel. We have several traditions for the holidays-orange rolls, my aunt’s saucy eggs casserole, squash casserole, green bean casserole, whipped goat cheese mashed potatoes, marinated flank steak, and some Bailey’s for sipping while piecing together a puzzle. My daughter started a tradition of picking out a cheesy holiday movie picking several holiday tropes you think will occur during the movie, and the person who has the most tropes that occur wins. Super fun! Happy holidays from the west coast, cheers!
How exciting, I am the first to wish you Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. I love your content. You are a special person. Keep up the good work. Take care. Love a long term watcher.
A sausage roll is a savoury English dish. Sausage rolls grew in popularity in London in the early 1800s as a cheap street food, and rapidly became a quintessentially British snack.
I may be late but I tried something this year and I think it’s a great tip: bake a loaf of bread for stuffing, cut it into cubes and throw it in the freezer in a ziploc bag. Thaw it on cookie sheets in a single layer morning of - perfectly staled bread! I did this about 2 weeks ahead of time and it was just perfect!
My Thanksgiving job was after dinner I got to clean all the meat off turkey. As I was sitting n cleaning off meat today I was remembering all the loved people that sat around the table. Since I was 19 n had my own home I have taken bones n made bone broth. My grandma taught me. It takes 3 days. But sure is good. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. I am 70 n only my son n I at dinner table. Sure do miss all the heavenly people tat are not here anymore
I’ve done the sausage pinwheels with puff pastry. They’re so good, but I like the ones with crescent rolls too! Though I’ve seen the recipe for sausage balls many time times, I’ve never made them. I might have to try making some. Happy Thanksgiving my sweet friend!
My Aunt Stacy is the sausage pinwheel Aunt in our family and she brings pans of them to every holiday dinner and there are never leftovers❤ In my home one that has stuck from when I was a child and I continue with my kids is on Christmas morning is triple berry pancakes(yes from the cheap muffin mix🤦♀️😂) and fresh whipped cream. Of all the things I can and do cook from scratch this is a staple. We also stay home in matching pajamas and have what we call tailgate food all day on Christmas. We did this when I was a child and we keep it going still. Cheese dip, ham sliders, Lil Smokies wrapped in Pillsbury crescent roll dough(we call them pigs in a blanket), sausage balls, etc. It's one of our favorite traditions ❤❤
Happy Thanksgiving ❤ I have followed you for so long I new exactly what you were making when you set those canned rolls down on the counter lol. And it put a SMILE! On my face! Beautiful tradition and I love that you continue it even though you no longer eat it and you know they really aren’t that healthy! ❤ have a beautiful day with your family from your Canadian friend xx
In over twenty years of making Thanksgiving dinner, I have yet to have everyone sit down at the time I expect dinner to be ready when I started my day. I'm almost always an hour off my time schedule. It's expected now, if I'm asked what time dinner will be, my family always adds an hour. But we have a great time together. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
My simple tradition for the holidays is buying the bagged stuffing mix (has to be a certain kind) because thats what my Nana made. Like you said, I can totally cook way more complex things but there’s something about that bagged mix that brings me back so it’s what I use.
Our easy Christmas morning breakfast tradition: Enttemann's raspberry danish and Cutie's oranges. Every Christmas since our kids were toddlers. They are in their mid twenty's now and have significant others. Of course, now... I usually get roped into a sausage gravy casserole too though.
Absolutely beautiful family, when God blesses you He always does it big. I'm so happy to see happy families, it warms my heart so much. Happy Thanksgiving(belated), and may God continue to bless y'all 💙💙
Happy Thanksgiving! I am so glad you didn't do a "cooking" show but rather you are making a "Food is Love" show. I need the reminder. I don't enjoy cooking. I love baking. But anything you make feels accessible and delicious.
Ha ha ha, Today I cooked Mac and cheese with my daughter her first time as she made all the sides, and after nearly a stick of butter she said "YOUR SECRET INGREDIENT IS BUTTER! " because we made stuffing with butter, mashed potatoes with butter and green bean casserole with butter, and put butter on the turkey prior to seasoning it!!!! I laughed so hard because I told her my food always was made with Love that's why it was better than hers.❤
Happy Thanksgiving to you guys too. Enjoy your coffee as I am drinking mine too. Your pin wheels look good as do your sausage balls. Enjoy your day with all your family. Hearts and Flowers coming your way. ❤️💐
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your amazing family. Today, I am thankful for family, friends, food and Farmers Table....or did I just watch Roots? Anyhow, I'm thankful for Jess. ❤
So I am a mostly scratch cook as well. But since our kids became adults, Christmas morning tradition is you get up whenever you want, usually my husband and I get up first now that we are retired. I put the Pillsbury cinnamon rolls into the oven (we also bake a batch of the orange ones) and we get our stockings - they usually have a magazine, so something to read while we wait and are drinking our tea. The "kids" drink coffee, so first one of them or their spouses up will put that on, and then grab their rolls and stockings. So the morning is pretty laid back. We don't usually gather around the tree until around 11am, sometimes even later, and open presents. Meanwhile, the sausage balls and Chex mix that got made the day or two before come out as well and some cookies. That basically is lunch. We cook during the afternoon and eat around 6pm. We don't tend to have as much of a Thanksgiving routine because it seems much more often than at Christmas, we gather on other days, this year it is Saturday, and our son never flies in for Thanksgiving, he saves his time off for a week at Christmas.Anyways, it is all about the routine, as you said, it is just expected that we will have certain foods prepared at that time. The dinner changes every year, but the other stuff mostly does not. Have a very blessed Thanksgiving.

I’m so proud of you!! I’m on my second batch with my second carcass and I’m hoping! The first one is delicious but not jelly😂
Absolutely fantastic accomplishment congratulations😊

I love that!!!
Jess, I so love this video. It really helps us reframe how we show up for our family and not get swept up in the “work”. ❤️
So happy to see your smiling face and those of your sweet boys this morning. Happy Thanksgiving to your beautiful family! 💛
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope your day is beautiful and blessed and full of love. ❤️
🤎🧡🥧🦃HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!! So Grateful for You!!🦃🥧🧡🤎
Lol. I was up late last night prepping Thanksgiving too. While things were cooking I don't into quiet time with the Lord. Bless you Jess
My husband loves your cornbread & fig stuffing! It's now his favorite dish of the whole holiday ❤
Happy Thanksgiving! ❤ Have a blessed day.
Thanksgiving tradition since 1975. Homemade Cranberry relish.
Hope you all had a great thanksgiving. God bless us everyone. Watched George C Scott “A Christmas Carol’.
Good morning, I hope you have a beautiful Thanksgiving. Those sausage pinwheels look terrific.
A sausage roll is a savoury English dish. Sausage rolls grew in popularity in London in the early 1800s as a cheap street food, and rapidly became a quintessentially British snack.
I buy them to bulk out my fox & badger feeds
Home cooked food is really the best tradition you can set for a family. I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!
Ever since I started drinking organic whole bean coffee. I no longer get heartburn when drinking coffee 😊❤ I love my coffee.
Thank you for sharing your precious time. Your Family is so sweet!
Thank you for sharing your tradition. Happy Thanksgiving to all
Happy Thanksgiving, Jess - Your post today was an appreciated and warm-fuzzy visit that brightened my day! I'm Thankful for you!
Ezra is such a special soul. Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving Jess and family. You are such a blessing! Love to you all 💕💕💕💕💕💕
Just beautiful! I can feel your love through you and your family. Happy Thanksgiving 🧡❤️💛🦃
Bless you and your family! Wishing you all a wonderful day 💕
Happy Thanksgiving ❤ I have followed you for so long I new exactly what you were making when you set those canned rolls down on the counter lol.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone☺️
The smirk and hand rub when he saw the pinwheels made me chuckle! Happy Thanksgiving!
My simple tradition for the holidays is buying the bagged stuffing mix (has to be a certain kind) because thats what my Nana made. Like you said, I can totally cook way more complex things but there’s something about that bagged mix that brings me back so it’s what I use.
I bless you all & Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for sharing! 🤗🇨🇦🌻
As of November 1, 2024, my new coffee is now the Guatemalan Dark! Thanks for making such a great coffee available! Happy Thanksgiving!
Our easy Christmas morning breakfast tradition: Enttemann's raspberry danish and Cutie's oranges. Every Christmas since our kids were toddlers. They are in their mid twenty's now and have significant others. Of course, now... I usually get roped into a sausage gravy casserole too though.
Thanks for sharing part of your tradition with us today! Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your family!
The "Thanksgiving Fairy" Love it!! That is such a gift.
Jess these are great recipes I’ll be inviting them into Christmas in England. Lots of love Lisa xxx ❤❤🥰🥰
Happy Thanksgiving and my favorite is the Guatemalan dark! So delicious!
Happy Thanksgiving. What a great tradition.
Our traditional dish for all holidays is red salad, we use wild blackberries I pick on our property and freeze. We live in Washington State.

I'm not planning on making any of this, seriously just came for a dose of Jess Joy!! ❤
Gluten free sausage balls is such a great idea! My family would love both of these but always thankful for gluten free options 👍🦃
Happy Thanksgiving!! Thank you for sharing your morning. Also reminds me it’s time to shake my vanilla bottles!!! 😂 Have a blessed day ❤️❤️
Blessed Thanksgiving to you all.
Last year I made your turkey recipe and it was a hit! This year it was requested that I make it again 😊 great recipe
Happy Thanksgiving Jess! You, Jeremiah and your family are such a blessing to us. God bless you! ❤❤
Happy Thanksgiving to you guys too. Enjoy your coffee as I am drinking mine too. Your pin wheels look good as do your sausage balls. Enjoy your day with all your family. Hearts and Flowers coming your way. ❤️💐
I love company in the kitchen as well, thank you Jess. A very happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well❤
As always, thank you for sharing with us all. You truly do bless us every time.
