The Met assembled a stellar cast for François Girard’s acclaimed new production of Richard Wagner’s final masterpiece. Jonas Kaufmann in the title role of Parsifal. René Pape is compelling as Gurnemanz, the veteran Knight of the Grail, and Katarina Dalayman brings out the dual sides of Kundry. Peter Mattei is Amfortas, the anguished ruler of the Grail’s kingdom, and Evgeny Nikitin sings the evil magician Klingsor. Daniele Gatti on the podium reveals both the serenity and dramatic tension of Wagner’s score.
In the culminating scene of Wagner's last opera "Parsifal" which premiered at the Bayreuth Festival in 1882, Parsifal finally absolves the wounded Amfortas by healing him with the spear that had struck the wound. "Nur eine Waffe taugt". He then proceeds to unveiling the grail as the new king of the grail.

This whole production is magnificent. Jonas Kaufmann IS Parsifal. He has made the role completely his own and what a stunning job he's done of it. Gorgeous voice

I saw one of these Met performances in the theater. It was the first time I found Parsifal interesting (sorry to the people who love this journey), primarily due to the voices and drama of Jonas, Pape, and Peter Mattei.

I have always liked most roles Jonas has done, but for me his voice is perfect for Wagner. Maybe not as big as King or Vickers or Windgassen, but it has that Wagnerian timbre. Looking forward to watch this free streaming tomorrow. Thank you for this!

Nicht schlech, aber die Aussprache von Jonas Kaufmann ist mäßig, Blot statt Blut. Für mich sind Jess Thomas in der Vergangenheit und Burkhard Fritz mit dem Parsifal 2012 besser. - Leider ist die Aufnahme mit Burkhard Fritz technisch zerhackt, aber eine absolut perfekte Stimme für den Parsifal.
