      That would only apply if it were a tsunami. The waterline would retract a lot if that were the case.
      So they were fine. There's still a need to be cautious as normal waves are still powerful, but it's not the same.

      @okole puka still that wave can drag people back out? They come over wipe you off your feet and then sweep you back out. This is still dangerous granted it’s no 2004 tsunami but best believe if this was the UK that whole place would have been blocked off by police and shut down haha

    We stayed in these condos on vacation in '12. Every six seconds for three days, the building shook as the waves hit the seawall. There was no reason to think that the ocean would do what we see in this video, however that was 10 years ago...with climate change I expect we'll see more stories like this.

    • @Nope-s

    • @SteveDisenhof
      @SteveDisenhof 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nope-s And you decided that how?
      From a recent World Bank report (but could also have come from a few dozen other scientific studies/predictions):
      “Global mean sea-level will continue to rise throughout the 21st century due to the effects of climate change. In many areas, this will result in increased coastal flooding, storm surges, cyclones and even land loss.” Or you could just ask the folks on Kiribati, Tuvalu, or a dozen of other Pacific Islands. Or just keep writing what you ‘think.’

    • @Prismatic_Truth
      @Prismatic_Truth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The climate is always changing. It was changing when you were there 10 years ago, and it will be changing 100 years from now. There are cities under the ocean that used to be on the coast. Nothing is permanent.

    • @SteveDisenhof
      @SteveDisenhof 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Prismatic_Truth Of course it is, the planet has been changing since it was formed a billion or so years ago. But the pace of change has been accelerating due to human activity, particularly in the industrial age which started in the 19th century. Change that, in the history of the planet, once took millennia to take place, now happens in less than a century. Virtually every scientific study has come to that conclusion. The dissenters to that can only muster “wishful thinking” to support their arguments. I am unfortunately old enough that I am not going to experience the devastation that climate change and the destruction of species will wreak on the human population. But my kids and grandchildren will.

      Just an FYI: most of the current sea level rise we experience is due to thermal expansion of the water. 93% of the heat trapped by human emissions of green house gases is currently going into the oceans. Thus far, only 1% of the heat trapped is in the atmosphere. Yes, just 1%. But in the decades to come, much of that heat will come back out of the oceans into the air. We ain't seen nothing yet.
