Union Firing Line (War Of Rights )

During the American Civil War, both the Union and Confederate armies used a modified version of the linear tactics used in the Napoleonic and French Revolutionary Wars. The line formation provided the best frontage for volley fire, but it sacrificed maneuverability and defense against cavalry.
