not really, Thailand didn't fight back, they were EXTREMELY lucky that not one, but two great powers saw their existence as a buffer to be more useful than outright annexation. In contrast, Italy had their sights on Ethiopia and tried and failed to conquer them.
Except Asia has more like Iran or China or Saudi Arabia.

Actually, in WW2 there was a faction of Thais who sided with the allies headed by the Thai ambassador Seni Pramoj.
He was meant to deliver the war declaration to the US, but he refused, instead asking them for help unfreezing Thai assets to organize a resistance movement known as the "Free Thai Movement". This lasted from 1941-1945 where they mostly acted as intelligence and pilot recovery for the allies.
In the end, their efforts resulted in a new anti-Japanese/pro-allies government and so Thailand didn't have to pay shit lmao

@@cyancat8633 First Bangkok, then going north (stop in Ayutthaya) to Chiang Mai and Northern Thailand. And then a plane to Koh Tao and Southern Thailand (Southern Thailand is very touristic so is safer than the north).

This video suddenly made me sad and disappointed on my country (The Philippines) for not standing up just as much as Thailand had
Bro we had no chance, we were located in different islands and divided by mountains and jungles so there's no unity. We were also one of the oldest countries in asia to be colonized by Europeans. And back then the whole archipelago was not united and didn't have strong ally to rely on. We're destined to be colonized, just like Indonesia.
You can't really compare the two since thailand kinda got lucky with its location between two European powers and served as a buffer area. Yes thailand played their cards right, but it's also because of the good cards they were given with
