  • Every three years, the Train Mountain Railroad Museum hosts its Triennial meet which attracts hundreds of miniature railroad enthusiasts from around the world. Train Mountain is situated on over 2,200 acres and has more than 36 miles of 7.5” gauge track on the ground.
    We ventured out to Chiloquin, Oregon to cover this massive meet in beautiful 4K for our audience. While other sites make you pay to enjoy their meet coverage, our 4K series comprising over 8 hours of rail action will be offered completely free-to-view.
    This video, part I in the series, covers the sights around Crisp Yard the morning of June 20th and the first trains out of the main yard. Keep an eye out for coming installments as we get up close and personal with some sharp rail equipment on this beautiful railroad. In the coming weeks, we’ll also be publishing 5 director’s cut videos which will feature each days action in full from the triennial. These will range from approximately 40 minutes to 120 minutes in length each. Thanks for watching The Steam Channel!

    An interesting video; I wish you would have zoomed out a little at the end and given us a view of the "full size" rotary snow thrower in the background.

    Love the video, but for the sanity of all Oregonians, please pronounce "Oregon" correctly :).

      We shot the A roll for it Friday. I have to render out a handful more videos from train mountain so I can purge that footage to make room- and that will be the first video to get edited after Mill Creek this week.

    I have heard that all trains must have a conductor on bord I would assume that they have volunteers to help with that when a solo driver wonts to run and are they still propane only for steamers

    • @TheSteamChannel
      @TheSteamChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, all trains beyond a single unit (like a speeder, need a conductor. Steam is propane only.

      Still propane only due to the high fire danger in the dry, eastern part of the state.

    Hey, I have a question. Can a coal fired 7.5 inch gauge steam locomotive be converted from coal to propane firing? I live in Texas and coal firing is a bit of a no no cuz of how dry it is, it's like a dadgum powder keg lol. Thanks!

    • @brannancloward
      @brannancloward ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it can. Same rules here on this railroad keep the coal burners out of the fire-prone areas. Most don't do it because of the historical inaccuracy.

      Most don’t do it because it requires extensive rework to the firebox and they aren’t going to screw with that kind of work to run on one railroad. It also requires hacking up a $20,000 + engine. I wouldn’t either. And just because someone sticks a burner manifold in the firebox doesn’t mean it’s going to operate efficiently or the engine is going to operate correctly at all. If the boiler wasn’t built with propane in mind, you may have a hell of a hard time making and keeping steam up…and using that propane efficiently… especially on a large engine with larger diameter boiler flues.
      While propane may be necessary to balance their fire risk, the rule has also locked in the people who will and won’t be running there. Personally, I wouldn’t even bring steam to this railroad. It’s too large. A gas-hydraulic and a few, very comfortable, riding cars is all I’d bring with plenty of extra gas. And even then, you’d have to be up for a 4,000+ mile road trip first to play trains. If you live around Chicago or east thereof.

    I've always been amazed by these Locomotives. But I know I won't be able to ever have one, but I have wondered, are most of these scratch built or did they buy them as "kits". I know a lot of nice ones are scratch built but I'm asking because if there are some nice kits out there I may look into buying one.

      there are kits available from a few companies but you'll still need to do all the machining yourself, even if you buy a set of fully machined castings the assembly will require at least basic shop tools
