  • Chances are, you've run into people who don't understand or don't agree with the Catholic Church. Here are a few questions that I get asked on a regular basis, and how to answer them succinctly:
    Catholics aren’t Christians
Catholics also worship Mary and the saints
Catholic Church has loads of money
Catholics believe that only Catholics will go to heaven
If you die of suicide, you are immediately condemned to hell
    The Catholic Church forbids divorce
Catholics believe that being gay is a sin
Catholic teachings aren’t found in the Bible
Catholics believe that justification comes through faith and works
The Catholic Church is predatory and an unsafe place for children
    Pedophilia problem
    The Church is against science
    The Pope is infallible
The Church is a fading institution

My Mom was raised Catholic. When she was a lot younger and before she had kids, she asked her priest or a fellow Catholic (can't recall) if they were Christian. They answered "No, I am Catholic". So, it seems to have also started in the Catholic community at one point. Her priest said a lot of weird things, though, like people who don't attend church on Sunday will go to Hell; when she asked about those in the countryside who can't make it to church, as it's too far away, he didn't have an answer. I wasn't raised on any particular church, but I consider myself a Christian as I believe in Jesus as my Savior and try to follow His example.

Do not try to make a while different doctrine simply because of a couple of verses that are taken out of context! If the entire Bible teaches to the contrary maybe it is you that does not have understanding on this topic, and when I say you, I mean all of you that cling onto a trinity teaching even though it is not found in the scriptures. There are far too many scriptures that teach the opposite of what you are saying. You are simply following mankind on this topic. Jesus Christ himself taught us who to pray to,.. Also who did Jesus Christ pray to?? Also when He gave up the ghost, who did he cry out to?? Your trinity teaching simply does not add up! Same with the whole goofy Friday Sunday rise BS!! People try to say that Jesus is a liar when they say this!! The only sign that was giving to us all, 3 days and 3 nights,, people think they can fit that into the time period of Friday to Sunday!!! Sorry but these people don't even know simple math!! They can't count to 3!! So why would you take their teachings on what God is or isn't? Don't try to put God in a box!! God is all. God is in everything!! Jesus Christ was sent by his father to save us and to teach us. Jesus Christ now sits at the right side of the Father, God the creator of all through Jesus Christ.

      1. Incense from Sheba in south Arabia
      2. Sweet cane from a far country
      3. Burnt offerings of all kinds
      4. Sacrifices
ALSO Matthew 5:17 STATES It is no longer necessary to burn incense to approach God, as we read in Hebrews 9:11-14 as well.

Like Henry the Eighth, Gustav I Vasa of Sweden had been raised Catholic, but turned to Protestantism for reasons that had more to do with secular politics of the day, than a spiritual need for religious reform.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I agree with you Alejandro, because I know enough about the history of my church (and about the secular history that happened at the same time) to see the absurdity of saying that Catholics aren't Christians.

laulutar Martin Luther taught for some time that when you die, you are not existing, no pain, no pleasure, but as in sleep, like how Jesus described Lazarus’ condition prior to resurrecting him back to life. The word Catholic means universal faith, it is an interfaith designed by the Romans to unite their citizens. One non Christian teaching is the immortal soul. Jesus was a Jew, and prior to the Greek introduction of the idea around 300 bce, Jews did not believe in an immortal soul. Martin Luther knew this ( so did William Tyndale) . “The soul that is sinning, it itself will die.” Ezekiel 18:4. Not a protest, rather a reformation to try and reverse that which was altered.

'Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?" '
      [Luke 9:23-25]
''Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few people be saved?” He answered them, 24 “Strive to enter through the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough." '
      [Luke 13:23-24]

(Jesus, Mary, and saints are in heaven, therefore statues and images of these are forbidden)
      Again in Deuteronomy 4-
" since you saw no form of any kind on the day the LORD spoke to you out of the fire at Mount Sinai, be careful that you do not act corruptly and make an image for yourselves of ANY form or shape, whether in the likeness of a male or female, of any beast that is on the earth or bird that flies in the air, or of any creature that crawls on the ground or fish that is in the waters below."

"there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."
      1 Timothy 2:5
      And again Jesus said-
" I am the way, the truth, and the life, noone comes to the father except through me"
Calling the Pope holy Father is blasphemy. Read the word of God here, where Jesus is talking about the priests of his day, and how people called them father.-

      Matthew 23:9

Your comment has a negative connotation. It sounds similar to someone saying a person from a specific culture can not be believed in discussing their culture because of who they are. The whole basis of the damnable Catholic teaching on asking Mary to pray for us is that she is very precious to God. No one has special privileges with God. Catholics believe that Jesus was some mamas boy. Whatever Mary wants , Mary gets. Its honestly disgusting , even lutherans as well with catholics believe that God could not come to earth incarnate without obtaining Mary's permission first. That is complete BLASPHMEY!
It is honestly interesting that the "blessed virgin" of Catholicism is also call the "Queen of Heaven" by the Catholic Church itself ? Jesus said , "Ye worship ye know not what..." (John 4:22). Catholics have no clue or idea who they are worshipping, they claim to worship "God" , while idolizing Mary in every shape and form. Mary is literally praised over 2,226 words in the rosary and how many times do y'all do the rosary? Thats straight BLASPHEMY ! God clearly said "He would NOT share his glory with another...." Isaiah 42:8
Catholic priest are spiritual frauds, all of them. It is so gross their theological negligence for both Lutheran minister and Catholic priest to claim the power to absolve someone else's sins. They can't even forgive their own sins. Religion wants to keep us in a box, but the Lord wants us to open our eyes. Satan uses religion , the lies from all around the world to blind people from the glorious gospel ( 2 Cor 4:3-4).
I truly pray that you won't continue to be one of satans victims, I pray that nobody will truly. I don't write these things, I do not go out and street evangelize these things to be hateful or unkind, God knows that. I have no hatred in my heart, God knows. Life is just too short to live with hatred. However, I hate evil, which is what we are commanded to do as a Christian, (Psalms 97:10), "Ye that love the LORD, hate evil; : he preserverth the souls of his saint; he delivered them out of the hand of the wicked."
May God bless you and open yours and everyone else's eyes to the truth, Amen.

My Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ, please read, the church has decieved you. Here's proof from the Holy Word of God.
      The Bible speaks for itself-
"You shall not make for yourself ANY image of ANY likeness of ANYTHING that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth"
Also saints and Mary can't intercede for you or be a mediator. The Bibles clear-
"there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."
      1 Timothy 2:5
      And again Jesus said-
" I am the way, the truth, and the life, noone comes to the father except through me"
Calling the Pope holy Father is blasphemy. Read the word of God here, where Jesus is talking about the priests of his day, and how people called them father.-
"Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven'
      Matthew 23:9
(He's not talking about blood father's he's talking about priests taking the title of father"
I can keep going on and on. I know Catholics are Christians who love God. But the Vatican is a wicked, antichrist system of deception, Paul warned about this in the bible

And you take the parable of the last supper literally do you know realize this was only a physical parable? Jesus always spoke in parables and this was a parable. And you Catholics take it literally and think the wine and bread can save you. The the wine of his blood actually means his cup of suffering and endurance in the name of Jesus. And the bread is his word. Jesus was the word mad flesh. And he said he was the bread of life. His words and he are the bread of life he really meant. And you confess your sins to the priest and call the priest father but the only man you should call father is god not a man. The man cannot forgive your sins for he is not Jesus. And you can’t rely on him for your forgiveness. You have to build a relationship with him. You can’t do that when you make the priest pray to Jesus for you. The devil has deceived you. Repent and follow Jesus words properly.

I am an Episcopalian, and evangelicals often told me that I was just “diet catholic”. While there are some real differences, I never understood why they thought that was a bad thing. I think that it was really well put when you talked about how you don’t really know who will be saved, only God does . I think God calls each of us to know him in a way that we can understand, so when I see rich evangelical pastors here in the US that didn’t even go to seminary tell me I’m going to hell, I know that they are not speaking for God but rather themselves.

Through apostolic succession we have had many more Popes but still the exact same church. You quote scripture and pretend that Catholics aren’t the ones who put the Bible together. Pretend that the Bible isn’t named after a Catholic saint. The Catholic Church is the one true church. The Church that Christ built. Don’t speak of man made churches and forget to mention the 7,000 different Protestant denominations that can’t seem to agree on anything due to the fact that it was a man who started their religion. The Catholic Church was started by Christ himself. The rest of the thousands of Protestant sects were created by Martin Luther 1500 years later. The same Martin Luther who was a catholic priest before Satan poisoned his mind and he ran off and married a catholic nun.

As a Biology professor at a Catholic university associated with the Benedictine Order, I can testify from experience that the Catholic Church is very supportive of science - evolution, Big Bang cosmology, etc. In fact, Catholicism has become perhaps the most pro-science Christian denomination. In 2009, I participated in an international conference at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome on the topic of the church and science, especially evolution and the Church. We had discussions and presentations from Cardinals, priests, theologians, psychologists, and scientists on this issue. The Church affirms the validity of all science. A funny incident based on misunderstanding: I once mentioned that I teach evolution at a Catholic university and the person almost whispered, "Do they know about it?" I laughed. I was assigned to teach an evolution course which fully embraces the discoveries of science. Even the Pontifical Academy of Science has strongly endorsed evolution. It is a misunderstanding to say that science and good religion are at odds. I am very proud of my church.

The best thing is the impact of this retreat has never gone away for me. I have been to retreats and special functions of differing faiths my whole life. I’m a Catholic convert from the Church of England. I have been to non and other denominational churches but couldn’t really tell them how I “became a Christian”
I will never leave the Catholic Church since I took my took my first confession. My sins were heard by the Lord not by the priest.

When a Protestant tells us that we are not Christians, just say the feeling is mutual.

But it's not. The Catholic Church recognizes their baptism as valid. We treat people with love and respect, not because of who they are but because of who we are.

The Church recognizes most of their baptisms as valid*
Many Protestants are not baptized and therefore not Christians. A small number are baptized modalists, myself included before I converted. To say that those not baptized or those invalidly baptized are not Christians is not a disrespect, it's just a point of fact. It also doesn't mean, as many Protestants believe, that it necessarily means they will not be saved. They might not be validly baptized, but they may still have it by desire and may still be invincibly ignorant of the truth of the faith and not in mortal sin, in which case they could likely still be saved.

      Right?
There are Catholics here who can give you the right answers...
I just pray that your mind and heart are open and willing to receive them.

I am too. We are called Catholic lite. High Church Episcopalians and Anglo Catholics like myself within the Episcopal Church are more in line with the Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church than Protestantism. I am more conservative that most Episcopalians and have considered converting to one of the conservative Anglican Churches or the Orthodox Church. I have some basic differences with Catholocism.
