Ten seconds into the conversation and the dude is already making fun of someone's hair and talking about soccer. This is the most accurate lesson I've ever seen. Subbed.

Finally a great tutorial! I went through the all internet to find this gem! Was fed up with the cartoons in Portuguese for children that made me feel like I was 3 years old again or tutorials going far too quick or too slow or too disorganised and all over the place! Thank you for your time and effort!

Why not translate each sentence verbatim first and then break it up? It felt like some words were lost in translation.

Excellent lessons. I do have a couple of questions..The first is that as I see extensive usage of the verb Andar. At one point, it is "...o que é que andas aqui a fazer?" What are you doing here? My question is, why is it not "...o que é que tu faces aqui?". My second question is regarding don't be long because I want to watch the end of the game. Rather than using porque, que is used. Why is this? Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

Olá Paul! Sorry for late reply, but for some reason i don’t get notified of every comment that’s made on our videos.
Answer to Q1: “estar a+ infinitivo” = “andar a+ infinitivo”, so you can generally replace “estar” with “andar” in this type of construction where we are referring to an action taking pace in that very present moment and that conveys the idea of continuity, just like in English you would use “to be + ‘ing’ form of verb”. You could put “aqui” at the end of the phrase, but it seems to flow better right after “estar” or “andar”. So generally Portuguese would do use “aqui” just as we did in the dialog.
Answer to Q2: besides many other things “que” can be used to express cause or reason. So it can have the same meaning as “porque”. “Despacha-te, porque quero ver o final do jogo” means the same very thing as “Despacha-te, que quero ver o final do jogo.” 👍🏽

    Hello Carla,
i wanted to start with your free Lesson 1. Unfortunately there is something wrong on your website. I can‘t see the Audio and the words. Do have Lesson 1-7 somewhere else? I‘m able to hear it in Spotify but then i can‘t see the words to write it down.
    Best regards

Since I know I am moving to Portugal soon I had started to learn portuguese a couple of months ago but there is not many good rescourses for portuguese portuguese on YT. I really like the dialogues in this video series (quite challenging - exactly what I need!). What I do not like is the translation in english...they completely kill the flow and learning process...since the dialogues are quite tough I do not see any point to translate them into english - learners will not learn anything by knowing what the expressions mean in english...they will forget it, it will not embed into their brains....they will eventually understand them when their level is high enough later on!!...I suggest you make more videos for beginners and intermediate students by speaking ONLY PORTUGUES (slowly/ medium-speed naration) so that a listener will get accustomed to expressions/ phrases and can listen to them over and over again. (I suggest you keep repeating one expression/ set of expressions again and again in a context/ story). this 'natural' method is very popular and bloody efficient (I learn that way 4 foreign languages just by listening in l ess than 4 years). Thanks!

AJohnson0325 poderá ser um desafio. Até porque para os nativos de Portugal, Brasil, Angola, etc pode ser difícil compreender outros falantes da língua portuguesa com um sotaque diferente. Talvez seja boa ideia, escutar os nossos podcasts, ver televisão portuguesa, ouvir rádio portuguesa para se acostumar aos diferentes sotaques de Portugal, se tem planos de lá ir :)

Pablo Carrascosa González hi Pablo, thanks for your input. That indeed would be the ideal situation, but many of our listeners are complete beginners, and a learning program without English at all, for these, would be very frustrating.
