false friends can be hilarious. My father-in-law (fluent in French) ordered a "gateau" (cake) in a cafe. The waiter was in despair, as my fil kept insisting "gateau, gateau, gateau". In the end, the waiter did bring him a gato (cat) :D Makes me smile everytime I hear the word gato/gateau!

Spanish is my native language, I learned English as ESL, it was very hard for me since I don't consider myself good in languages , even Spanish grammar and spelling was a nightmare.
I had excellent English teachers and one told me " most of English words with more than 3 syllabus has the same meaning in spanish" let's focus on pronunciation.
That was a priceless lesson as well as this video.
    You guys are awesome.
Muito Obrigada, Thanks a million, Mil gracias.

Ola!! Another Canadian here :) Just like the last comment, I have been looking everywhere for good European Portuguese lessons. I also had a terrible time with French, and (it was years and years ago...) I just couldn't master the language even though they taught it in school every day.

I'm a Costa Rican living in Portugal, and as a Spanish speaker should be easier for me to learn as the languages are really similar, but the truth is, in Spanish we have much more «falsos amigos» so is easier to make mistakes like Joel did! I’ve been trying to find European Portuguese videos for the longest and now that I found you two, I feel so grateful. This video was very helpful and made me feel so much better. Besides English, I speak Spanish fluently, and have some moderate understanding of Italian as well, so I’m hopping that portugués isn’t too hard. I didn’t want to jump straight into learning vocabulary because chances are that I won’t even remember anything at all. I prefer learning pronunciation, that way I can look for patterns and even attempt to say words on my own.
