My Granpa sang this the last time I ever saw him. Sitting up in bed. Eyesight gone and near the end. He was with the Gordons at the Somme as a company runner and made it back. Bringing the MM with him for his bravery.
My Grandmother's brother was a Gordon Highlander and I loved seeing photos of him in uniform and hearing the stories. When I was young and heard this song I thought it was the official regimental one!
Look at the size of them, my Da was 5’ 6” he was a Gordon. Could fight like fuck, although he was very mild mannered. I can’t think of this song without greeting (Scots for crying), nor Waltzing Matilda, ma Maw was Matilda, ATS, manned Ack Ack batteries in Hull and Southampton. They’d be horrified at the state of the country now. They could never have afforded to stay in a 4* hotel in their lives. Now you just tip up in a lilo in Dover. Hey presto, a Novotel. Why did they fight?
I fully sympathize with you, although I am not British but Italian. The worst part of this tragedy is that most Europeans DO NOT understand that this is a continental matter and that their future as an ethnic entity and culture is at stake. We are all in the same boat and is sinking rapidly. Those wonderful Scottish young men died for nothing. The only real winners of WW2 were the bankers.

My Da was a Gordon. He was from Lanarkshire, how he ended up in the Gordons is a WW2 mystery. I have his foties. He was as proud as fuck tae be a Gordon. When they took Madagascar from the Vichy French they went to Durban. The sailors were offering 5 quid to wear their kilts ashore. They were all told to fuck off. He took Burma back from the Japs. He died aged 59. He would be horrified at the state of the U.K. and would have Nicoliar tried for treason. Of that I have no doubt.
Brechin, in Angus but close to the Mearns and old Kincardineshire, was always split between pride in the Black Watch and pride in the Gordons. My Aunts in Arbroath use to sing this song when I was but 'a wee loon'... a long time ago now, but I've never forgotten it.
My dad being a Scot would play this on an old broken piano after he fixed all the keys himself I don’t know he did it but would of made a fortune in repairs if they had of employed him.
If I am not mistaken it looked like King( or the future) George VI and his brother Edward VIII, it seemed they weren’t too happy about inspecting the troops. 😂 Good video. 🏴
I always had a great admiration for the Scottish people and their soldiers (fairly ironic since I am Italian 😆😆😆) I remember reading in a book dedicated to the Scottish regiments in the British army (1978) that the Gordon Highlanders won more VCs than any other Scottish regiment. Is that so? I tried a search in Google and it was bloody useless. I would appreciate any information about this. Regards.
The regiment was named after the Clan Gordon from which the majority of its original members joined. Clan is the Scottish equivalent of a 'tribe'. Clan sounding much better.

Rest in peace. Thanks for sharing.
How special.
What a memory to have - defiant to the end. A soldier and proud if it.@@jackiewilkinson3122
Your Granpa was a good man. And that's enough.
My grandad used to sing it to me too!

Brilliant and the Best Regiment in the British army from an ex Gordon Highlander.
QOCH.
Bydand!!
Gay Gordon's 😂
What a beautiful song! Truly, the Scottish accent is absolutely beautiful
Scotland have been our brothers for 300+ years 🏴 🏴 🏴
My great grandad was proud to serve in the gordons in ww1. I would sit on his knee and listen to his stories
I used to sing this song for my grandfather; for my grandmother, I would sing "away in a manger"....my god; the early 60s, and how time flies
It’s weird seeing Edward and George together, just the two of them, two future kings of England with absolutely no idea of what is to come.
Love
Tom

It's marvelous to hear old family tales like this. Thanks for sharing mate 👍
Tears to my eye

Wonderful story.
You are "rightfully" proud of your father and family.
Excellent! Very patriotic song! God bless 🏴!
Remembering my grandmother's brother: Pvt Kenneth "Kenny" Green, 2nd Gordon's, died of wounds, Festubert,1915 aged 19 - never forgotten!!

Empirial France is better than modern France and your Royalist songs are just scarily bad
Who won the war anyway
Very lovely song, good job :)🏴

Proud to be Scottish
My family are Gordons and I learnt the lyrics near instantly

Edward was king at that time and it's rumoured he didn't enjoy his visits to Scotland.
Excellent
what a story & tune indeed :)
For somewhat reason i always sing this song when playing war thunder and replaced the "A gordon for me" to "No gunner for you"
mine too!

Video straordinario!!!

Fake news
Fuckin' braw! Long live the Gordons of the Earth!
VHSやブルーレイに変わってもみています。劇場公開したときからかな?たしか中学生だった。サントラ盤レコードで買って聴いていた。
Just out of interest, was that King Edward VIII inspecting the troops at 1:35 et sequiter?
Yes mate
@@patrioticarchive I thought I recognised him.
@@Rory_Herbert I recently watched a documentary about Balmoral Castle and he didn't enjoy his visits to Scotland unfortunately
@@patrioticarchive Haha. He did seem a little, let’s say ‘abrupt’ during his inspection of the guard. 😀
@@Rory_Herbert He tends to look a bit petulant in film and photographs taken in public.
So reminds me of my maw singing this so Scottish ❤

Stand fast
Very epic
Smart lads! I wonder what year? ‘34 ish?
I'm French and I don't know what does "Gordon" mean. Could someone give me a synonym or an explanation please ?
There was a regiment in the British army called the Gordon Highlanders
@@patrioticarchive Oh thanks you ! So, I want a Gordon too in the royal guard of my French King ! :)

"My kilt is Mackenzie o the HLI" , the Highland Light Infantry wore trews .
Kilts were authorised in 1947
Proof that England cant survive without Scotland!
🏴🏴🇬🇧
other way round
What are they wearing, the King and his Brother? It is not Gordon?
🇬🇧
Its sad that Britain lost connection with alot of these regiments amalgamating them and such
i may be born and thrive hating the united kingdom but this song hits hard
Fablus
Very poor choice of film I think to use shots of Edward VIII in the video.
agreed. He wasn't too keen on Scotland and he was a runt who abdicated to run off with an American fascist
British??? SCOTTISH!!!!
Scottish people are British you weapon.
A Gordon for me up my very gay kilt!
