Edzan failing to one-cycle the OP is sad, yes. But I think the outcome was decided the moment Edzan got trolled by a flying pirate in Phendrana's Edge. Oof. Amazing race regardless! Felt right at home watching it!
I used to run this game. Badly, but still. I never learned to do the out of bounds stuff. I gave up because I always fell down and couldn't get up. So I came up with an in-bounds route, that included this infinite speed glitch and going backwards through Phazon Mines etc. I played 100%, cause I just loved collecting all the upgrades, since many of them require some pretty cool and challenging tricks. These guys make this look easy, but even some of the "simple jumps" the narrator is speaking of are not that easy. There was also a time when I only had the PAL version which made the sequence breaks requiring dashing more complicated. For example the Early Space Jump requires you to lock on to an enemy from another room and carefully back down to your ship, without breaking the lock on, and then doing a combat dash jump from on top of the ship. If it failed, you had to do it all again. I spent hours trying to do it in early 2000's, with only written instructions from GameFAQs forums. It wasn't known back then that there is a way to dash jump that doesn't require you to break the lock on: you just have to press R as you're jumping.
I think they started doing something a bit weird and not well explained in this GDQ. They're showing the console being played on and either the original release date or the release date of the played version rather than the OG release and console or the version release and console. Either way, Wii takes GC disks so I assume they're playing the 2002 release on Wii for loading or stability reasons. It is weird, and I think they could whip up a hybrid UI to show both the release w/the version release console and the console being played on and maybe the port date if it's something like Wii VC or a PC port of a console game, which would at least provide all the information, though it may add more clutter than they'd want. Hey idk what they're thinking but 'Wii 2002' is scuffed.
GDQ staff probably did that because this is GC NTSC 0-00 version played on the Wii (and yes, the platform this version came out on *initially* should've been listed instead, IMO). It's not mentioned in this particular run, but runners do that to avoid two specific crashes that *can* happen when you play any version that isn't GC PAL or GC NTSC 0-02 on the GameCube.
@@FallenAngel34 I know that one of the crashes is an out of memory crash in the corridors to Furnace, and that playing on Wii helps because it has more memory. What's the other one?
I hate when leaderboards do that. Timing by an in game timer that uses too big of units. That’s like measuring a car race only down to the second. All those ties could be new records but because the timing only goes to the minute, who knows. Heck, he could be 58 seconds ahead of record and still not get it.
Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 is live right now! www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick/
So glad another Prime run made its way to GDQ! Maybe in 2026 we'll see Prime 4 being ran!
Yep will be there right alongside Silksong
You do know that prime 4 is coming out this year right? It even has a gameplay trailer.@@Dr.SamCarterPhD
@@Dr.SamCarterPhDPrime 4 was actually announced for 2025 lol
The reason people think you need supers to get the artifact in magmoor first pass, is becuase the scan says it's the super missile material
That's false: you can't even scan the Lava Lake column. X-Ray Visor lets you see Nature hidden inside of it, but you just can't scan it.
My heart hurt when Edzan didn’t get the OP one cycle. It would’ve been phenomenal to see them neck and neck til the very end. Great race though!

I’m always up for more Metroid Prime!

@57:00 maze skip NICE
I absolutely despise Metroid Prime's semi-tank control scheme but Vertigo and Edzan make it look like a cake walk! Cheers!
Amazing, great job both players
starting off 2025 with a metroid prime run is such a prime way to start off the year…. my fault won’t happen again

My favorite game console that was out in 2002 is the wii

Has Corruption ever been run at GDQ?
yes claris did one i dont remember the year though

Yeah Claris did in 2018
This was all totally to help hype up Metroid Prime 4.
I notice the system listed is Wii, but this is the gamecube version because it doesn’t have the pointer controls. Whoops.

I assume it's the GameCube disk on the Wii hardware.

If people who actually play this game liked RTA, they'd be using it.
