    Let me know what you guys think. Should we go IRS and full MM build, or just use what I already have and get Nemesis on the road?

      Maximum Motorsports for the win! Stuff the biggest tire under it possible!

    I like the roll cage idea with recaro seats & rear seat delete. Keep that rear end in there since it’s rebuilt & have fun driving that beast. You will have his & hers foxbodys when you & Tiffany show up to events. You know I’ll be watching no matter what direction you go

    My vote would be an all out road course build as you already have a beautiful vert cruiser.....also, do the cage now while everything is dumped out and if you can get your hands on an IRS that will totally change the feel of the car. Looking forward to seeing more progress, awesome VID 🙌🙌🏁

    Also, just cause I've been chatting with MM...they are not making their cages right now. I think they are just trying to get K-members and other parts out the door (probably work force and demand issues). There are other solutions for cages that people have pointed out to me (Rhodes Racing, Team Z, Kenny Brown, Wild Rides, S and W).

    • @GearHead704

    Matt...love seeing you back working on Nemesis. You are going through the same thoughts and ponderings as me. I want to build my car up to be a great handler for auto-crossing and occasional track days...I don't want to do fender-to-fender racing as I'm scared to bang it up. I've had my car for 13 yrs now and it is my baby. I am planning to use a lot of MM parts. Going coil-overs all the way around. I do have an IRS for it already. I bought the IRS a couple years ago before prices went nuts. I also want to keep it a driver, so I can cruise with my wife. Keeping A/C and heat. But I'm sure it won't be the most comfortable cruiser, just like what you are saying. I did get Detroit Speed Engineering through-the-floor subframe connectors. I do plan on doing a 6-pt or 8-pt cage. I have the Cobra brakes for the front, but also am tempted to do the Caddy Brembos on the front. I do want to build mine to show a little bit, too...but not be a full blown show car...just have it be presentable. I am also Coyote/T56 swapping my car. So I guess I don't have a whole lot of input, but love where you are going. I guess my biggest suggestion is at least Cobra brakes, coil-overs, some good chassis stiffening. I think the 8.8 would be good...just IRS would be better, ha ha.

    • @GearHead704
      @GearHead704  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      IRS prices ended up being much more than I expected, looks like I'm going to stay with the 8.8 after all.

    Daily driver means insurance..registration n smog certificate up to date...but can be driven on public roads not just the track...
    track car?...no insurance...no registration...no smog equipment no restrictions on engine size forced induction ...but budget wise you will end up down the rabbit hole ...but if you got deep pockets or extra money do what you feel ....

    I have a MM bolt in 6 point with the welded seat belt bar and solid door bars, I now wish that I had just done a full weld in 8.50 legal cage, but any safety is better than none. With the full length subs and stifflers web braces. it's pretty stiff and I love the jacking rails. The MM steering shaft eliminates all play and gives me nice road feedback like a go cart. Im a weirdo so i did a QA1 K with BMR arms and a stifflers K brace and made my own front spring perches...with the Eibach sway bars it's a slot car even on regular coils. Make sure that the belts that you buy will re certify, some are throw aways. Scatter shield and drive shaft hoop are a nod to the Swamp Rat Big Daddy Don. I say OVER build the car now and if you can put more power in later your already safe. Safe is GOOD! Rent a Razor, go out on some gravel roads and get a feel for driving slideways....Enjoy!

    Matt, think about your build like Carroll Shelby would. Shelby’s ingenuity won the day with what was available, not throwing a catalogue at the car (which didn’t exist in the day) think big but be creative. Road racer YES……remember theShelby drop. Thanks for including us out here in video land.

    I’d do it all… after having owned at least 10 Fox bodies over past 25 years I’ve learned the only way is to do everything because that’s what you’ll end up wanting in the end anyway. My keeper took me 10+ years but it’s what I wanted - full interior/exterior resto with all the upgrades incl full MM suspension, big brakes, built turbo’d engine, etc. Nothing stopping you from doing it in stages though. Easy enough to restore interior later if that isn’t your main focus right now.

    • @GearHead704
      @GearHead704  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, that's usually what happens, we want to keep going with our builds lol

    Matt, I just went through this with my '88 Vert. Went with MM K member, lower control arms, and coil overs. Highly recommended. I have done a ton of work to mine that'll I'll keep under wraps for now.

    • @GearHead704
      @GearHead704  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mike, MM makes some great parts for sure.

  • @brokentoolgarage
    @brokentoolgarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good update! Keep with the autoX! Weld, gusset, and reinforce the stock K-member. Poly bushings, tubular rear control arms, subframe connectors. Adjustable struts/shocks, and tighten up the rear end. Also you can run New Edge front control arms for all the camber adjustment and the twin piston caliper update. Oh, 200 treadwear tires. I'm getting 1.2 corner G's in my Fox on 300 treadwear tires (205Front 225Rear)- you don't need a bunch of expensive parts - just the right parts.

    Wow you are back! Was waiting too see a moving truck to Texas….LoL. I’d say what use will you get out of it when done as a race car? 2, maybe 3 times a year? A hot street car with ability to course or track and take to shows,cruises, events to promote all you have done. I’d go for the best return in your investment with fun and time. Either way, great stuff and glad to see you back on it Matt.

    Whats up Matt been a little bit since I've been watching videos I got myself another project & getting pretty deep in it... anyhow I would do the IRS for sure and definitely upgrade the cooling system because if you're going to be driving that car or pushing it hard it's definitely going to need it with that 349 you know like you said you don't want to have to do it twice and if you can afford to do it the first time around that would be great big breaks all that stuff that you can do I mean breaks aren't that big of a deal to change later if you're doing the IRS you definitely going to want to do bigger front brakes as well and also congrats man I'm so happy for you that your channel has grown so much and you're getting that extra cash flow to be able to put into Nemesis man keep up the great work and great videos!!!

    I would suggest a street warrior car. Maximum Motorsports half or full roll cage, powder coated to match interior. Rear seat delete. Black carpet with Recaro seats aftermarket steering wheel and plain n simple speaker delete door panels. Suspension coilover set, comfortable ride but handles like a go cart.

    • @GearHead704
      @GearHead704  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like the speaker delete idea, first time i've thought of that. Thanks.

  • @VacFink
    @VacFink 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There's value in a natural progression. It might help to consider building a car that is appropriate for entry into racing. Learn how to race, figure out if you want more of it, then build up the car. Its fun to shop and throw parts at a car, but that money can't be saved and used later. If you try some racing and find its fun but not great, then the spend can go toward the different direction. I thought about this for my own build and am focusing on modernizing which makes it more track day capable but not full race. A real race car is really only fun when actually racing, the rest of the time its a chore. Maybe spend some time in someone else's racer first?

    • @GearHead704
      @GearHead704  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right that is a better approach. At this point I think I just want to get it on the road.

    I say go resto mod, but keep it streetable. You’ll get more use out of the car if you can enjoy it on the road as well as the track. I guess it all depends on how much you plan to really race the car. I’d want AC, full suspension, good brakes, nice interior. You can still do race seats and a minimal cage and keep it nice to race and enjoy on the street.

    Hey man i say paint that Coupe back two tone. And please put a Canton 7 quart oil pan on that 349. Leave the 8.8 you have. Go coil overs all around. And put that car on the road. All you need is a nice swaybar on the front and rear control arms. Put a set of subframe conectors. And a front engine brace. With your cast and camber plates. If you do get a cage. Go chrome moly like i got in my Fox. not mild steel makes the car more heavy. I mean i got a 10 point with door swing outs. But a 4 point or a 6 point will work for road racing. Do it right all at once. You see my Fox. It has taken years. But no cutting corners. Everything done one time. So come up with a game plan. And add up what it will cost you. And then whichever way you think it is the way you want it. . And get her done. Stay with the 8.8 you got all STEEDA gear already. I am giving you food for your brain bud.

    Is there an advantage to stroke at a 302 to 347 to begin versus starting out with a 351 Windsor?

    • @GearHead704
      @GearHead704  ปีที่แล้ว

      A few advantages for the 302 to 347 VS 351. With a 347 you don't need to have dropped motor mounts or a you can use a stock hood. But you are at almost the limits of a stock block for power. The 351 can be stroked out to a 427. However 347 vs 351 is basically the same power at those cubic inches.

    Hello Matt, Matt, and Tiffany! I would build it with the best quality parts you can afford, but street, and track builds aren’t the same. Unless you want to relegate it to track only, build a high performance restomod. If y’all are good with it being race only, then go all out.
