Hi, I’m think of going to Americamp next year, however I definitely plan on staying after the camp is complete either where the camp is located or just travel in general. Did you do the same after camp and if so how did you go about doing it with flights etc☺️

Leona Walsh Hey so excited for you to start planning your camp adventure!! So during my time at camp I was able to explore around where the camp was located. My camp is in Pennsylvania so it was interesting to see what was around, which tbh wasn’t a lot but was still cool to see. So what I did was I booked a return flight in May 2019 with a girl I met through FB going to the same camp. We booked a return flight from 13th June - 2nd September. We weren’t sure if we’d be travelling together but atleast we had someone!! When I got to camp, it was closer to the middle of camp when people started making travel plans. I got together with a group of friends and we made a plan of where we’d possibly want to go. You will always find someone wanting to go the same places as you! I travelled for 2 and a half weeks with a big group of people, some people leaving earlier than others but they’d just travel back to New York by themselves or with someone else for flights home etc. I’d recommend getting to know people as soon as you get placed, it means you’ll always have someone to book a return flight home with HOWEVER you do not need to travel with them. The girl I booked my return with ended up doing some travel differently from myself but we’re still best of friends, she went some places with different groups then we all met back up. Most likely people will want to go the same places as yourself. Hope this helps a bit. Any more qus just ask!! ❤️❤️

lynxey thanks for your reply!so do you just recommend booking a flight that gives you more time to travel even tho you won’t know if you will be travelling with others or not❤️

Leona Walsh it’s certainly up to yourself! The reason I gave myself 2 and a half weeks is because 30 days seemed far too long. That’s what you’ll get with your visa! I just kinda worked out my money, with how much realistically I can take and how much I’d be getting paid. I took $300 with me, had £500 in the bank, and got paid $1,750 by camp. I spent all of it and maybe came back with $5. I did so much with that money though. With regards to booking flights, I would recommend booking the return. Some people book singles and just book the flight home when they’re out there but my friend I originally went over with was able to amend the date of her flight instead. So instead of two singles, she got a return and just contacted the airline to pay a fee so she could stay longer. Some people amended it so they could leave sooner. We were in the states during hurricane Dorian, some people were due to stay longer but had to quickly buy flights home - those that didn’t have a return had to pay a FORTUNE to return home. I honestly think a return is the best option, worst comes to worst you can amend it for a fee! X

lynxey I’m definitely planning or booking a return flight. I was ask about how the travel plans go afterwards really as it will be my first travelling alone. I’m just unsure as to what to do about return flights do I book for something around two weeks or whichever. Cause I’ll be unsure where I’ll be travelling or who I will be travelling with, because of that it makes flights very awkward.🥰

Leona Walsh if I was in your position I’d wait to see where I got placed, then try to get in contact with those going to the same camp. See who you get on with the most, spend time with them and possibly book a return with them. If you’re really worried I’d recommend saving up enough money that you can easily change the dates of your flights, if you maybe wanna come home earlier or end up staying later. I honestly wouldn’t worry too much, you will make friends who will wanna travel with you I promise. It’ll always work out, but do make sure you have enough money for yourself so it’s easily amendable for you! There are some flights out there that you can change the date for if you give a certain amount of notice in advance. Defo look into that!! I do understand it’s a hard decision though because you don’t know what to expect but I 110% promise it will work out! X

Justine Ralston sorry for the late reply I just saw this comment! so I took around $300 with me to camp, and had £500 in my bank. I used all of that money to book flights/some hotels for after travel plus my time during camp. I then got paid $1,750 and used that money for spending and any hostels etc still to pay during my travels. I went to New York for a night, flew to New Orleans for 5 days, flew to San Francisco for 4 days, took the bus to LA and stayed in a hostel for 4/5 days, Philadelphia for 2 nights then got a bus to Newark and stayed for 2 nights then flew home. I managed all of that travel for that amount of money! Hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have anymore qus :)
