    Superb tutorial for the beginner. It's the only one I've found that lays out clearly the basic concepts involved in Painter. It goes straight in with the lesson without a chummy, time-wasting intro, and ....no background beat-noise! I complained to Allegorithmic some time ago that NONE of their videos were properly targeted at beginners. Five stars, or whatever is the maximum! Thank you!

    Thanks, nice and quick introduction! I'm wondering can you stack multiple generated masks onto one layer/material or do you have to duplicate the material each time? Like if I want both a edge wear generator and a standard noise applied to an object to create rust, do I need to duplicate the rust material so I have two versions, each with it's own mask generator?

    • @WireMosasaur
      @WireMosasaur 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know the exact answer to this, but I know I recently wanted to put both a mask with an "add paint" effect and also a mask that was only affecting certain UV shells with the polygon fill: The easiest way I found to do this was to just put the whole fill layer into a folder, and then have one mask applied to the layer directly and one mask applied to the folder. Maybe that would work in your case too? Just thought I'd share c:

    Hello and thanks for the tutorial. I cannot seem to get this to work in the latest version. Adding the things you add has basically in each step another behavior from yours. Already the very first step, adding the Iron looks different for me. I have brushed metal like strokes in it. going to the top- Have to change to triplanar projection to have it like you.
    Rust layer seems to work same as yours- But then adding the red layer with blackmas and generator with Metal Edge Wear does absolutely nothing for me either. What could that be?
    Ive tried so many things now but it wont work. Like trying different uvunwrap methods, via blender and via Substance Painter and other things, no luck.
    Just to be sure, i think i did exactly like you, being:
    - add Shiny Iron material
    - add Rust fill layer
    - add blackmask to Rustlayer, with generator Dripping Rust
    - add red fillayer with blackmask and generator Metal Edges
    Nothing changes it, it will not look like yours in any way. Cant get the edges to get taken into account, that Metal Edges generator effects the whole material, not only the edges, no matter what ive set it to.
    Any idea why?

    Thanks alot dude.I just do not know why but when i was experimenting on this with simple cube my edges were not enough gray grunged/rusted.There was just a tiny sharp line of gray white color on the edges.It was not like your rust here on the edges of your model.How to increase the rust level or i have to do it manually by painting it?

    Great tutorial, very clear explanation! However, my brush tool does not work, it shows that I select a brush, I can see the opacity is on or off in the viewport because it shows where my mouse is and in the small display of the brush settings, I can see I have no alpha selected, or that the flow is not set to 0. But as soon as I start painting nothing happens, not on a mask with a paint effector, not on a new layer with no effector or mask, just nothing. Apparently nobody else is having this issue on google. Do you have any idea?

    Is there a way to add a seperate colour or materials to the alpha u painted on the surface ? For example if I paint an alpha and want a separate material over it rather than the material of the object I added the alpha on, what should I do ? Would really appreciate a solution

    • @Pixelfondue
      @Pixelfondue  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One thing you can do is to create a layer, add a black mask to it and then add a paint effect. Use your alpha to paint in that effect layer. Now you can copy and paste that effect layer to your new layer with your separate color/material on it and use that paint layer as a mask on another black mask.

    • @StevenWhite-w6p
      @StevenWhite-w6p 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm with pixel fondue and made the video but responding with my personal account-
      Generally, materials are created in whatever program you use before you send it to painter- so if you have multiple objects with their own material assignments, those should come through to painter.
      Within painter itself, if you have multiple objects, you can also use Masks to assign different materials to each object.

      Hi Lambert. Did you bake out your maps? You will need to bake your maps to see the different layering type effects. To get weathering effects between layers, Substance needs a curvature map to tell it where the edges of the object are. Baking should be one of the first things you do when you get into Painter.
