  • Hey everyone!
I've had this video idea in my head for a while now and with Nolan Arenado being traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, I felt this was the best time to make this video. In 2007, the Colorado Rockies embarked on a franchise altering journey over the course of 1 month; better known as Rocktober. This is the story of Rocktober.

Remember that for the first decade or more of their existence, the Rox drew over 4 million fans per year, always the most in baseball, for last-place teams. When they played in Mile High Stadium their first two years they would get 80,000 per game! The fans are there, the passion is there; the intelligence in the front office is what's lacking.

There’s a small core of diehards and a big group of casuals that enjoy the cheap tickets and always keep Coors pretty busy even if the team isn’t great. I remember being in 2nd grade and they held a big assembly in the gym during game 1 of the NLDS and the whole school watched the first 3 innings on a projector. Colorado loves their sports.

People are passionate about baseball here and they exploit it To the extreme. Colorado's a beautiful state but there aren't a lot of natives here anymore. People go to see their team play the shitty Rockies. It's beautiful here, and LoDo is pretty awesome. I will not be going to any more ball games until the Monforts (the worst owners in Professional sports history)sell the team.

I remember this. I was 12 years old. My dad took me out of school during the last week of the regular season so we could go watch the Rockies play. That was the only time my dad ever did anything like that, it was truly magical watching that last week live. Game 163 is still, to this day, the greatest baseball game I've ever seen. I screamed myself hoarse, and when Holliday scored the game winning run I just remember everybody jumping around, screaming, hugging each other, I still remember my dad and I, and some dude I didn't know all hugging each other and jumping up and down screaming, everybody high fiving each other, pure pandemonium.

That’s me but with the 6/23 game when we swept the Dodgers, on top of that it was my 3rd baseball game (first one since 2019 at a Giants-Padres game) and the first time I’ve seen my team win live, against the Dodgers, and I hate the Dodgers so it was so far the most exciting, and probably even the best thing that I’ve seen in my life so far, and just like you there was some dude who put $1,000 for rent on the game and he won his money, so I gave him and the group of college kids in front of me high fives, went home and wrote on the edge of my pennant the date and score of that game and I’ll hold those memories in my head forever

That's the Only a significant part of their history. What the Monforts have done with the Rockies is absolutely horrendous. The 2007 season was a fluke, And we were utterly embarrassed in the World Series. Then they let Nolan Arenado, The greatest 3rd baseman of this era, Slip away. It's only going to get worse, But the Monforts absolutely don't care because everybody's gonna go to the ball game because this is a transient state and people go to watch the other team more than ours. I've said this before but I mean it this time I won't be going to any more ball games until they sell the team. Which sucks, because I love baseball.

The Brewers had something to fight for too. The Brewers finished 2007 in 2nd place, 2 games behind the 1st place Cubs. For the Brewers, 2007 was their first winning season since 1992. The Brewers could have even clinched the NL Central. 2007 was a renaissance of sorts for both the Rockies and Brewers.

Hate to break it to you, but the problem with the current Rox isn't the pitching. It's the offense. And now with Arenado gone for little more than a middle-of-the-rotation starter and no offensive replacement, it's going to be a long, low-scoring season. Story will be traded by July, and we're going to be lucky to win 70 games.

To me, this is one of the more forgettable World Series attendees. Maybe it’s because I was around 3 when they made the World Series, or because they were one of the three teams to lose to the Red Sox in the World Series, but it’s like everytime I think about the 2007 World Series, all I can think about is just the Red Sox winning it. Idk I just feel like their STORY, sorry pun intended, just hasn’t really been told much. Also, I feel like The Rockies going to the World Series is just ONE OF the biggest examples of how baseball can be manipulative, unpredictable, and unprecedented. Don’t forget, 2019 with the two Spring Training fieldmates. One was 1931 and the other was just about to be on the verge of becoming an imposter

I don't blame the Rockies for not having a championship, it's weird in Denver. Whenever I go there, even though it looks the same as the lower elevations, my body still somehow knows I'm up higher and it doesn't like it. I'm not talking about the thinner air either, I adapted to that quite quickly as a smoker, its like a constant semi-vertigo.

Great video man! I am a Rockies fan and has been a fan since 2007. Matt Holliday to this day is still my favorite player. I remember getting a Holliday T-shirt shortly after the 07 WS. I’ve lived in Colorado all my life and would never trade it for anything in the world. I’ll say this, the Rockies ownership is beyond terrible and the Monforts, NEED to go...like now. I remember watching the Rockies in 08 and 09 and just remembering how good our team really was (Helton, Tulo, Cargo, Fowler, Atkins, Barmes). Those seasons were epic and exciting for Rockies fans. In 2017, when Nolan hit that historic walk off cycle, you could feel something was going to happen that year. For the first time since 2010, I felt that the team had a great chance to make rocktober. Both 17 and 18 were great, fun seasons. Once we signed that stupid Arenado 8-year contract and dropping DJ and Otto, the Rockies were getting worse and worse. I thought 2019 was going to be the year we were finally going to win the division because we had one of the most scariest lineups in baseball. But we went 71-91. Monfort and bridich thought we didn’t need to fix anything from the previous season. They didn’t care about the team or fans, all they cared and care right now, is the money and revenue. Ok Monfort, Coors is a great ballpark to watch games and I always LOVE going to Denver to watch my hometown Rox, but can you please do your actual freaking job?! Plz! Instead of investing your time and effort into Coors and the experience, investing in your team and players is not a bad idea. I know we can win a World Series, just not with clowns like Monfort and bridich. Go Rox.

Colorado is an interesting spot for sports; we've had plenty of talent in every major professional sport but it doesn't always pay off (Rockies, Nuggets) like it has for others (Broncos, Avalanche) a title for the Nuggets or Rockies would be phenomenal. We have a passionate, unique fan base here and a one of a kind environment given the atmosphere/altitude-other cities that go without a title for decades would probably tell you the same thing: the waiting sucks, but when they actually win it's an unreal experience! Go Avs, Broncos, Rockies, and Nuggets! Will always support the home team! -through the good, and bad times. (Edit): Nugg's just won the chip-one more team to go! Let's go Rocks!!
Edit: Nuggets 2023 NBA Champs!!! We just need to revive the rockies now, lets go boys-bring back the magic!

It's okay. The Baseball Illuminati wanted the BoSox to win that Series. After their thrilling ALCS win, with all the momentum going their way, MLB allowed them to continue their roll. The Rox had to wait 8 days to play another meaningful game, and by the time the WS began, the mojo was gone. Not Boston's fault, but MLB should have made Boston wait a few more days, too.

I've lived in Colorado my entire life, 32 years. Been a huge baseball fan the entire time, diehard Rockies fan. They do have one of the best fanbases - it's too bad the ownership really has no incentive to win. Coors Field is in such a prime spot of Denver, with droves of people moving to Colorado monthly. They could lose 162 games and people would still go the games - not for baseball, for other things.

It was a historic run. A perfect storm of beating the odds. But yeah, getting swept by the Red Sox put a damper on it. It wasn't the losing to the Red Sox, that would have been fine. But getting swept felt like an ending to a fairy tale that no one saw coming. Off topic but how Helton didn't win the 2000 NL MVP was criminal. I liked Jeff Kent just fine but come on - it made no sense. Helton hit .372 with 216 hits! There was something corrupt in MVP voting that year.

I knew a guy who put a bet on the Rockies to win the World Series that year, and didn’t lay it off when they got to the World Series.
I suppose when you get really good odds and get that close, why not just ride it out, but he was looking at a five figure payout on a three figure bet, so there was plenty of room to hedge and still make plenty if they’d won.

  • @andyhighroller8217

i always thought colorado had been building their teams incorrectly. Back in 2014/2015, SF signed Samardjza and johnny Cueto, while the Rockies gave Ian Desmond a fat deal to play 1B/LF/RF instead of SS.
I figured, fringe AAA/MLB guys like Justin Maxwell or journeyman guys like Donovan Solano should be guys the rockies bring in at the cheap, while maximizing pitching on the FA market. Maxwell couldnt hit a lot of homers in SF, but he had close to 10-15 HR caught on the warning track in SF that wouldve been out in Colorado. Their offensive environment should allow them to supplement overpays for pitchers with AAAA guys that have 130 OPS+ at home but 80 OPS+ away from colorado, which is where your pitching prevents high scoring games, meaning if they get one Tulo/CarGo/Arenado/etc that can hit anywhere, a lineup based on defense and high risk high reward offense(Gallo/Bellinger tyoes)

I hate the term "Rocktober". It implies that the Colorado Rockies are at their best in October or a frequent team playing meaningful games into October -- and that couldn't be further from the truth. This is a team that's made it into the postseason (not counting play-in games) only 4 times in 32 years. This is a team that's finished better than 3rd in its division only 4 times in 32 years. This team doesn't play meaningful games into October. This team pretty much doesn't play meaningful games much past July!

    Rockies, 0-1
    Brewers, 0-1 (AL)
    Mariners, 0-0
    Rays, 0-2
    Rangers 0-2 (2011 WOW)
The only 6 left. The Mariners are the only ones never to reach the WS. Then there are teams that feel like they've never won because it's been so long - Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Baltimore.
I'm a Yankees fan, but when they're out of it I always prefer cheering for a team that hasn't won yet.
The Red Sox and White Sox breaking their curses in back-to-back years was huge; then there's the Cubs.

Its all about the altitude. They've tried to mitigate this issue and try to build a team to take advantage but it never seemed to work. Its too hard on their pitchers and the Rockies were always a weak road team year after year. You just can't compete when your home field is such an outlier.

Other than the miracle that was Rocktober, the Rockies will never win because 1) the Monforts have openly admitted that they're never selling because they make so much money losing and 2) even with the humidor, the average starter's ERA is usually above 4.0 ... that's why I haven't watched a single inning of baseball since 2009. I'm not a baseball fan, I'm a Rockies fan but I just can't watch them lose anymore.

Coors field has essentially become the most fun bar in Denver. Great atmosphere and occasionally you can see a Rox win. Ownership has no incentive to build a winning team, the seats get filled regardless. Every player i get excited about gets traded with the exception of Charlie Blackmon who I wish spent his career elsewhere as he deserved much better. Theres not a single person I know who doesnt consider the Rockies as a joke.
