Fun Fact: the kid at the birthday party who tells them they are “full of crap” is Jason Reitman, the Director’s (Ivan Reitman) son. The new Ghostbusters movie that’s about to come out was directed by none other than Jason Reitman himself, who is now all grown up and a very successful Director. He also directed Juno, which is another great film you guys should watch and react to if you haven’t seen it already.

Cheech's career was DOA when he shot this cameo. He'd made _Born In East L.A._ into a sleeper hit but the studios had very few if any executives who knew how to market films for Latino audiences and wished him well. Robert Rodriguez plugged Cheech into _Desperado_ a few years later, which led to him getting plugged into _Great White Hype_ which led to Ron Shelton casting him as Kevin Costner's buddy in _Tin Cup_ which led to his co-star Don Johnson asking Cheech to play his partner on _Nash Bridges_ . Couldn't have happened to a better human being.

Glad you liked these films as they are so beloved, the other reason why Ghostbusters is remembered with kids in the 80`s so much is because as a child they had a Ghostbusters cartoon set after the 1st movie called The Real Ghostbusters. It grew the child audience and gave Slimer a bigger role as pert of the team as a pet ghost that Egon and Ray would be with and he would always annoy Peter! It ran for 7 seasons and was really good!
Also The Cast of the movie reunited for a Videogame that was based on the plot for a Ghostbusters 3 that never got made in the 1990`s fans call this game the truce Ghostbusters 3 and it was recently remastered for the PS4.

The mood slime came into existence when the massive negative psychomagnetheric energy of the population manifested into a physical psycho-reactive substance. It probably then coalesced into a river when Vigo's presence took control to gain power and later use it as a shield. The ghosts themselves aren't able to crossover until portions of the slime become charged with negative energy. The explosion in the courtroom beaker was a micro-cross rip fueled by the judge's angry rant. The Scoleri Brothers were specifically released because they were sentenced to die by that judge in that courtroom. As time went on, other ghosts could have been drawn to the hotbed of psychic turbulence via spectral migration.

In it the Ghostbusters are not forgotten this time but the ghosts also don't vanish as they did after 1, instead the Ghostbusters get recognized as city contractors and the character you play as is a newly hired member just called the rookie it has a lot of throwbacks both with easter eggs and characters from both 1 and 2.

The ghost train scene was directly inspired by and is based on the 1918 Malbone Street Wreck, the deadliest subway train accident to happen in New York's history and one of the deadliest train accidents in US history in general. The train jumped the track and derailed because it was trying to navigate a very sharply curving tunnel rated to be navigated at 6 miles an hour at nearly 60(!) miles an hour due to being operated by an inexperienced lineman because its usual engineer was participating in a labor strike (This is not the engineer's fault, mind. It is the company's for recklessly putting someone so inexperienced on the job.) The train was at the time five _wooden_ cars loaded with 650 passengers. The first car derailed and stayed on the ground, but cars two and three left the track, were flung into the air by the force, and struck the left wall and ceiling of the tunnel at speed and had their passenger compartments smashed to bits, their remains consisting of literally just the wheelbed platform and part of the right compartment wall each. The remains of these destroyed cars damaged cars one and four as well, but these cars remained otherwise sound and most of the people inside were alright. The engine and car five were ultimately undamaged, and the engine itself remained railed. The accident had a death toll of between 93 and 102 and over 250 people were severely injured. The accident caused the financial destruction of the transit company responsible, which went bankrupt. The section of tunnel in which the accident occurred was removed from the main line in 1920 and used regularly but extremely infrequently up until 1958, when it was altogether abandoned for good.

It continues from where the first movie ended and apparently several things in the second movie come from the cartoon, like Janine's new look and Slimer's more friendly attitude. For me it was my favorite cartoon when i was a kid, and i remember it being actually well written, with funny moments, actual scary moments, and even sad and melancholic ones. The ghosts designs were also very unique and interesting, and most of the time we would actually see why they are haunting the place they are in, who they were when alive or where they come from.

GB2 is my favorite of the three existing films. A bit of trivia for you: the shot of the car backfiring in the beginning wasn't a practical effect. The car really was breaking down. The man in the fedora in the courtroom who nods to the black guy when Venkman says "Who you gonna call?" was the actor who played Vigo. Peter MacNichol (Janozs) was supposed to play the character as an American named Jason, but he created an entire backstory and changed the character. The shot of Ray "running the red light" in the montage was a sequence planned where it followed the museum visit because Ray was possessed by Vigo and he crashed the Ecto-1A into a tree. The Real Ghostbsuters tie-in comic book series played the entire sequence out. And the little girl who got the puppy was Ivan Reitman's daughter.

_Ghostbusters II_ may not be at the level of the original - but as an adaptation of the '80s cartoon _The Real Ghostbusters_ - it's perfect.

Great sequel. The reason it took so long to get a sequel made is partly because Bill Murray was hesitant about doing a sequel but mostly because the studio head at Columbia Pictures David Putnam was interested in the studio making more art movies. Sequels is not something he condoned. It's only when he was thrown out that a sequel got made.
Also the reason the visual effects look so great is because they were shot on higher film stock than the actual movie so the compositing didn't lose them any quality.

Murray is also the reason we had to wait over 30 YEARS! for Afterlife to get made but he had no problem being in that unnecessary remake for chump change.

@@RoosterMontgomery I tend to think if Murray had got his act together sooner and collaborated with the scripts Dan had been working with we could have got a third Ghostbusters movie in 2008 or 2009. The 2009 game would have made a great tie-in. 😥

The TV commercial scene, the black out in Manhattan, and the animal fur coat coming to life, those scenes were originally written for the first movie, but for whatever reasons, they were cut out or not even filmed.

The part of the montage and ecto 1 is going fast and they in the back seat shaking around is actually a dropped subplot. Ray was supposed to be Possessed and under control driving like a maniac. That was dropped and we got the only at the end being possessed but the driving scene stayed as just a montage of driving fast to the next call

I think I've only ever seen this movie properly once, but I've seen Ghostbusters lots of times. I don't think I disliked it as such, I just liked the first one more. I really enjoyed your reaction, though! If was nice to see people really liking it. It felt a bit like being sprayed with positively charged supernatural goo. :D

The second movie definitely leaned into being more family-friendly because of the popularity of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon in between the two movies. But still pretty solid.

In the first one the electrocuting experiment was actually working, the guy was getting progressively better before storming out.
In the second the girl he's interviewing actually guessed the end of the world right (viggo reincarnation and start of the season of evil)

Im remember seeing this in theaters my father took me I was 7 in 89 so you do the math lol.. Fun Fact Bill Murray didn't want to do the sequel. As did Dan Aykroyd he felt Ghostbusters was just a one and done story. However with top selling merchandises and at this point a very well established animated series it's series the Ghostbusters franchise franchise was just blooming.

Fantastic commentary. I think if events like those portrayed in _Ghostbusters_ really occurred, people would pretend they never happened and sue the Ghostbusters out of business, so that's believable. If you read the reviews, a lot of critics thought the sequel was actually a step up. Fans, not so much.I think this franchise worked best as a Saturday morning cartoon. _The Real Ghostbusters_ continues the adventures of all these characters and has some wild stuff in it.
