    This was really helpful explaining not only how to do this, but also how some components in pedals work that don’t get explained all that well anywhere else.

      I’m glad you said that. I wanted to do more than just assemble the thing, and I think knowing what things do helps demystify electronics in general

      @@StompboxBreakdown I wanted to thank you too. If you're just following a paint by numbers, put-this-thing-here-and-solder-it, type of thing you're not learning anything. I want to know the hows and whys so I can extrapolate to designing a circuit of my own someday.

    Very helpful video! I'm currently on my 2nd build. The first was a cheap Landtone tremolo pedal which I finished, but it ended up fizzling out almost immediately. It was almost certainly due to something I did, as I struggled with the instructions (or lack thereof) and my inexperience. But it was a great learning project for $25.
    I'm now building a Tone Bender MKII clone from a US company that has much better components, instructions, and customer service when needed. I'll be moving on to the Classic Fuzz from BYOC once done with this one.
    Building your own pedals can be challenging, but it is a lot of fun!

      Thank you so much. Good luck with the build!! I’ve done two BYOC pedals, their kits are top notch. Who makes the TB MKII clone? That sounds kinda interesting.

      @@StompboxBreakdown I bought the kit from General Guitar Gadgets. Pretty good documentation available for their builds online, and the owner is really helpful and responsive to questions by email.

    Phew… I was about to eat some solder… saved my life bro

    No lie, this video made me stop hesitating and buy that Acapulco Gold clone kit I've been eyeing. Building my own pedal no longer seems like such a daunting task, so thanks for this!

      That’s what I like to hear!! Take your time and double check each component before soldering it down and you’ll be all set

    Fun! Going to rewatch this later. I've built a few pedals, done mods to some Boss pedals, and a little bit more. There's a cool company called MOD Kits DIY that makes some cool point to point pedal kits. They also have a full blown outboard tube spring reverb unit for something like $300-ish(?). That was the most complex thing that I had soldered/assembled. Troubleshooting problems and safety were some important things to consider. Way cool!

    Awesome video. I've always wanted to try this but hesitant. You've definitely confirmed for me the potential aggravations, time, money, equipment, extra parts, and storage of all that - I would be jumping into. May revisit that in a few years, but I'm happy not to jump into this. Thanks again for the demonstration !

    Dude, to keep your tip longer, put solder on tip and put in cradle. Then, when ready to use, clean the tip and your tip is nice and ready.

      Thanks! I’ll start doing that. Makes a lot of sense.

    I got the exact Op Amp fuzz (appears to me a Muff) from Landtone and this was the only vid I could find that may have possibly helped me figure out the wiring between the DC in, Audio in and the pcb connections- the illustrations are not clear enough despite having apparently been "upgraded" since this vid- there are a couple full color pics and a wiring diagram unfortunately, mine do Not have clear labeling as to which lug goes to which point on pcb! Also unfortunately, the vid speeds up to squirrell- speed at the critical point for me and the best info I could glean from this vid was a quick pause at the instructions where the DC and Audio in lugs are labeled. I still cannot get the LED to go all off when the effect is off and the bypass is rough.

    you menchioned direction of dioded but what about the brown blood ones, and resistor do they have a direction thank you

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup, all diodes have a direction. Resistors do not.

    I built this same exact pedal, but never got it to work, but after watching your video i think ive seen something that might be the problem on mine,

      @StompboxBreakdown  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh, what do you think the problem is/was? If so, that’s great!!

      @@StompboxBreakdown i had the big chips backwards as well as my power jack was wired incorrect. but during the process i blew a 47 resistor right in the center of the board, so i just bridged the gap with a wire, i'm honestly so happy with how it ended up sounding. a very fuzzed rat sound, the tone knob acts very much like a filter, once again, thank you. i had to pause n play the video at random spots like 50 times but it was worth it! thanks again ive had this pedal sitting around non working since christmas, im so happy it works now!

    i built 2 Landtone pedals the instructions were real bad and both pedals dont work at all compressor led dident even light up .. they are sending me another but i dont think i will build it and i do not know of any other kits that are any good or worth the bother.. iv bought a lot of china pedals and the quality just is not there so building one was a big let down i realy wanted to buld a quality peadle that was worth it but you did a good job there i understand the pots there the same ones i got i thought they suck quite frankly.. but thank you

    Not too bad of a fuzz terrible brand though I got a landtone centaur clone that I can barely give away I'm not sure what type of fuzz it is looks like a symetrical clipping dual IC thing I'm not really familiar with could very well be a rat variant

      Unfortunately I’ve heard the same from others. I really want to do another build, but it’ll be a BYOC or something from Stewmac

      I did the Ghost Drive (on sale now for 100 bucks) and it was easy, satisfying, and sounds close to Klon. Great fun and decent price. 🤙

    Hey what is that ring light you are using?? Thats exactly what i need for my work bench for building. I looked on amazon but its all cheap USB lights. I want a nice clip on like that that will be bright

    • @StompboxBreakdown
      @StompboxBreakdown  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t find where I ordered it from, it may be two different things I combined. The ring light IS a usb powered 10” ring, and there’s a gooseneck arm. I think something similar might be this : a.co/d/4EGAaBr

    Could you show the jacks and power supply socket wiring, please? Not in the instructions! Thanks!

      Yes PLEASE! I received nothing like the sheet you had. I did receive pictures of the process but, they are blurry and can’t see wiring. It is infuriating.
