What animation moment meant a lot to you in the last year?
For me, seeing Katie Mitchell head off on her own after a huge adventure with her family was the animation moment that meant the most to me in 2021. Having a unique girl feeling the need to move into a new phase of her life, hit close to home for me; no family is perfect or the same, but I saw my own family reflected in the Mitchells so I instantly loved them.
Katie was pursuing her creative dreams and moving far away from her family which was exactly what I was trying to decide to do throughout last year. While Katie was going off to explore being a filmmaker, I was doubling down into my dream of being a Disney TH-camr by moving to Orlando, FL near Walt Disney World. It's hard to pull away from the life you grew up with, but Katie and I both had to take a step forward on our journeys.
Plus, the art direction was just gorgeous in Mithcells Vs The Machines, and the whole movie was hilarious!!!

For me it was either Owl House Lumity being canon or Amphbia the ending to True Colors. The ending was very good and I'm surprised that Disney let them keep it in. I like a more serialized formula. It feels like the story matters and that your not wasiting your time (might be wrong about the choice of words) and that characters have to live with their decisions. Like with Owl House or Amphbia.

Now that Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, Guillermo himself said it perfectly regarding Animation, it is *NOT* a Genre, it is a Medium, an Artform and especially Cinema. So I applaud Mr. Del Toro for saying it out loud during the presentation following the films win after Halle Bailey (Ariel), Lilly James (Cinderella) and Naomi Scott (Jasmine) who were the presenters for last year’s Best Animated feature called Animation a "Genre for Children".

As an artist, and children's author, I feel like animated films should get more credit. Animation takes a long time, and writing takes a good amount of time as well. It is literally one of the most complex forms of art (in my opinion) out there. I don't want to go on too long with this, but still. Animation is not childish.

    • @Sketchitect

I do agree, working on a scene for hours or days and it appearing just for some seconds, that's the reality of animation! and the wide audience who enjoy animation (not just children), understand that its a time consuming process.

It is simply a most enriching and fulfilling artistic medium which is to be indistinct of one’s race, biological gender and gender identification, sexual orientation, means of acquisitional power and age… As a professional comic book illustrator, I am most profoundly disheartened by humanity’s erroneous perceptualization of a most imperative portion of our own survival as a species, that of the consumption of a most incessant manifold of manifestations of artistry and of the humanities, as something to be ridiculed or to amerit trivialization. 🖤

    • @DBT1007
      @DBT1007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yep. And take example on Japanese animation.
      "Your Name" for example.
Think about how to make that story. Lots of editing in the storyboard there of course. And that's just from the story aspect. Next thing is the animation process. Oh and also the sound effects and stuff since when u do animated film, u make things from zero. No natural sounds and stuff. You need to record n make them all from zero.
Animating things is more difficult than using actor to role play.
And i think the duration of movie, the time consuming ones are the CGI animation parts. For the actor/actress acting part, it's maybe just months or even just weeks to take.

  • @EChacon
    @EChacon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +371

All I can say as most folks had said it before, Animation is a *MEDIUM* not a genre.
Literally it feels like a "Double Edge Sword" be it the Academy Awards or News outlets to call Animation for Kids/Family when the medium regardless if its an animated film or animated television series can appeal to Teens and adults as well, as shown with The Simpsons, South Park, Invincible, Arcane, Primal, Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss, just to name a few.
Even Anime has a massive appeal that is targeted to Teens and Adults and not just *ONLY* Kids and Families.

TH-cam’s COPPA implementation makes this “Animation is for kids” statement even worse, because if your video is set by TH-cam as “made for kids”, no one is allowed to comment or favorite an animation video, a puppet video, or anything that looks like it’s “made for kids” all because of stuff like CocoMelon and Baby Shark ruining animation videos, and other forms of media seen to TH-cam’s bots as “made for kids”. In the movie, SpongeBob and Patrick feel guilt for their childish admirations and passions toward certain things, but toward the end they learn to appreciate that it doesn't matter what others think or what it may come off as, but as long as it is true and important to them, that's all that matters to them. • @WasatchWind
      @WasatchWind 2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

It's especially odd to me, because from the dawn of animation into the 60s, animation didn't seem to have stigma attached to it. Was listening to a history of animation podcast and this historian, she said it was completely normal for two adult guys in the 40s to chat about the latest buggs bunny cartoon.
From what I understand, the decline of Disney in the 70s and Saturday morning cartoons lacking in the quality of the golden era of animated shorts built up the idea that animation was for children.
Somehow though, despite the Disney Renaissance, the rising prominence of international animation, brilliant artistic films and more, there are still extremely stupid adults who've decided animation is not good.
I've learned as an adult that every adult is a child in a grown up body, that is flying by the seat of their pants hoping what they do is correct.
So in my eyes, the people at the academy awards are no better than children on a playground, telling the other kids what they enjoy is stupid.

I think this "animation=children" stigma needs to end already somehow, it is getting beyond ridiculous to discriminate masterful shows, movies and videogames for an art choice. I honestly feel like the people insulting cartoons are the ones that are insecure about themselves and pretend that realistic media full of violence=quality to fit in with the broken community of today. It feels like they watch/play stuff to feel mature about themselves (basically to show off how much violence they can stomach as if that was something to be proud of) rather than to actually have a good time.

Animation has ALWAYS been cinema, just as comic books have ALWAYS been literature. We need to let go of this idea of if there's any drawing or animating to be seen that it's immediately for children, or if it's based on something like that it's for children.
Just to put this in perspective, when my wife and I saw Deadpool 2 years ago there were SEVERAL families in the theater, keep in mind this is Deadpool 2 not 1 so they had to have known what they were getting themselves into. This (among many other reasons) is why I hate the Oscar’s. And I’m an aspiring actress. I turned 16 last year and I felt like I had to hide loving Encanto and that I couldn’t talk about it with people or else I’d be seen as childish. Luckily, Encanto got more popular and I’m able to talk about it now, but I’m disappointed in myself for holding it in for so long. Another thing I wanted to add was I recently saw the most amazing show ever called Arcane (it’s on Netflix it’s really good you have to watch it) and I told my dad about it and I was really excited for us to watch it he sort of acted almost annoyed by it and he could you could basically tell he was like “oh it’s just gonna be another animated thing for kids.” I swear as soon as we saw the first episode he was instantly hooked and went back for more. Let me just tell you that grown man cried during that animated series and I am so proud of myself. I really think people need to recognize animation as not just some thing for kids but that people of all ages can enjoy and you shouldn’t just dismiss a story because it’s animated. I actually prefer TV shows that are animated because I can connect better with the characters because of the amazing facial expressions, the world which is built, richness of the color of the amazing facial expressions in the beautifully drawn out backgrounds. I would be so sad if this was all the lost because people dismissed it as being for kids. I’m still into cartoons and every animated film and series I can get my hands on, and I’m so glad I didn’t give up that part of myself or stop watching it because I was “too old.” What I’m trying to say is, don’t let people talk you out of your passions. And you should never sacrifice yourself to fit in with others.

I have always hated when adults belittle animation. One of my dad's girlfriends thought animation was solely for children. We had her watch Beauty and the beast (She only watched it since it was nominated for best picture) and afterwards she said it was great and I thought I had opened her mind to a whole realm of great movies. I brought over Iron giant, lion king, hunchback of notre dame (one of my personal favorites), and so many more and she refused to watch any of them because she still thought animation (or "Cartoons" as she called them) was a kid thing. I was so disappointed and upset.
I just can't believe there are movie lovers out there that just ignore a whole medium of film just because it's drawn or computer animated. I frequently cry when watching animated movies, not just because of story or the characters, but because the animation is so damn beautiful. All the movies that were nominated this year were great, I honestly would have been happy no matter who won (I was rooting for Encanto the most though). I have always wished the academy would create more categories to honor Animation, like Best Voice acting or Character design. Do you know how many kids saw themselves in Encanto because of the designs of the characters? I will always appreciate the talent and hard work of all the animators in every animation studio. It's a damn shame that even Hollywood can't recognize what they do as genuine art and they get swept under the rug being called "Kid movies".

I grew up watching disney, cartoon network, nickelodeon, anime, and many other forms of animation. Last year my friend recommended me to watch sofia the first and holy crap, for a disney junior show, it's so darn good!! It's wholesome, cute, funny, it has a storyplot (especially in season 3 and 4) and the characters are just fun, especially cedric the sorcerer, he became my top favorite character and everytime i see him, i just smile and laugh because of how funny he is even if he starts off as a villain. Sofia the first even made me watch elena of avalor which is also an amazing show! I don't care if Sofia The First and Elena Of Avalor are disney junior shows, i love both shows and i will always be a big fan of them, no matter what some jerks say 😊

Animation is stunning especially when it is done right
I am also a 26-year-old woman and I primarily watch animated shows and movies
Studios like Disney Pixar and DreamWorks tell very compelling stories using animation and it’s incredible and I’d say my appreciation for animation has only grown with age especially having a friend who is an animator by hobby and seeing him work in the incredible effort he puts into his animations is incredible I’ve even done a bit of voice acting for him and it’s a lot of fun
People seriously under appreciate how much work goes into making even a five minute animated short let alone an entire movie especially before the advent of CG animation when entire movies were made with only hand drawn animation which took years and years and years to do in the effort was obvious

Heck, my sisters watch Steven Universe, Infinity Train, and a whole bunch of anime, and they’ve just reached their adulthood. Encanto in any way or universe is better than the mitchells vs the machines, that is another big fail for the academy, and I bet the next year the award will be for lightyear, turning red or any other mediocre Disney/Pixar film instead of the real winner. Animation for children only? Hell no! My kids don't annoy me with watching animation over and over, I annoy THEM with it! I've gotten "Mommy, you've already seen this!" before(it was the short film Far From the Tree that's on Disney+ most recently), but then we also bond with belting out the Encanto songs, watching it for the 3rd time in the week. We've watched all of Centaurworld at least 3 times, they very excitedly asked my husband and I to watch The Mitchells vs. The Machines and The Willoughbys with them and both movies have made us, adults, cry, Gravity Falls and Steven Universe were a favorite of ours to watch, and my children and I are actually trying to learn animation! A love and passion for animation is something that my kids and I share, and it is such a disgrace for the Oscars to treat it like anything more than an annoyance. I hope that can change in the future. (Oh, and we are currently watching Legend of Korra together, after I showed them A:TLA. They aren't allowed to watch it without me, because I never had the chance to finish it after the stunt Nickelodeon pulled with it!)
Sorry if that was a lot of rambling. My family is quite passionate about animation, it means a lot to us, and it always frustrates me how so many other parents look at it and see it as something they can use as a distraction to use on their kids rather than something that they can bond with their children over.

  • @paulahopeheine

"We Don't Talk About Bruno," especially when performed properly, shows that the family doesn't talk about Bruno but they still love him and miss him -- So Badly. Try singing "We don't talk about" with a lot of determination and then sing, "Bruno, no, no, no" with as much sadness as you can. That meaning goes as deep as the notes. I think it was one of my favorite moments in animation this Oscars year when I realized the song can be interpreted that way.
Animation brings together so many talented people: writers, animators, storyboard artists, and songwriters. It brings together families as well, connecting them with themselves and with the characters onscreen. When I watched Encanto the first time, I felt seen as a member of a Catholic family. And I felt connected to my Hispanic brothers and sisters in Christ. Isaac, you are right. Animation does allow us to see and connect with cultures in an authentic way.

Who was it that said "You're dead if you aim only for kids....adults are kids grown p anyways."?
Per your question this isn't something in the past year, but something that always stuck out to me, was Mickey in Fantasia. As someone who always kind of just dives head first into things, and in one year of college in particular really got in over my head with classes, it always reminds me it's okay if you don't know everything, it's okay, to take things slow and learn at your own pace. The most impactful moments for me in animation this last year were from these:
-Luisa’s struggles in Encanto, namely Surface Pressure
-Luca and Alberto discovering themselves and their relationship
-The friendships I gained in Persona 5 Royal (idc if they arent real, I love them)
-Parts of the Inazuma story of Genshin Impact (I don’t want to spoil the story for others so I won’t go into too much detail)
Like, each one of those experiences had me sobbing my eyes out. Animation is an art and a medium used to tell stories, big or small, and reach everyone. I wish people wouldn’t discredit it because that’s such a disservice to the experiences and the creators of them. I will always love animation and I’d even say animation is cinema and BETTER. The things that can be done with it are absolutely remarkable and should be respected, not dismissed. Thanks for the video Isaac ❤️

Animation is honestly one of the best, if not the best medium of storytelling. My personal favorite thing about it is how it plays with physicality and movement, in a way a live action movie could never do, to add to the story.
It’s just ridiculous that the academy and people in general consider it a form of “lesser cinema” because it’s “for kids” as if 1) things targeted towards children don’t have value (that’s very wrong in my opinion) 2) it was easy to animate and go through the whole process of it.
Animation is limitless at this point, and I hope people who work on it never get discouraged, because I will forever watch their beautiful work.

I'm honestly apalled by how much disrepsect animated films get. I'm an animation student and so far the stuff I've learned is HARD and so incredibally time consuming. A few seconds of animation can take days or weeks to perfect and I don't understand how people don't get that? It takes YEARS for one animated film to be produced and so many talented people have to collaborate on it to make a cohesive story and make sure every scene is borderline flawless. I love drawing and art and animated films are beatiful to look at and I have so much respect for all the people who work on them. Its not easy. I just hope that one day more people will learn to appreciate them and not look down on the art form.

Look at sausage party or Rick and Morty (I honestly don't like this show but it's still very popular by adults) or Primal or Samurai Jack then you have Disney shows like Amphbia or Owl House or hell even Duck Tales. All these shows (not the adult ones like Rick and Morty or Sausage Party) can be enjoyed by literally ANYONE. It feels disgusting that they what they said. Animation as a media can be much much much more than live action because they don't have to worry about risking the actors. This is my opinion but what they said could drive for animators to strike.

With recent animation stuff like Arcane and Invincible that became such huge hits animation proves it can aim at the adult demographic. Without it being like a sitcom such as The Simpsons. Adult animation can look visually beautiful if it wants to. I think it's one of the reasons anime is so popular in the US. Arcane also proves it by giving the creators of the show a big budget. Having Arcane the time it needs to turn out amazing. Animators put in so much work for animated projects yet they are underutilized. Walt Disney took a risk for the animation industry to take the next step even having to sell his own house for it. Voice acting itself is unappreciated at the Oscars. The Academy is mostly just a bounce of old white men having outdated standards. It's no wonder the only thing memorable of Oscars 2022 was the slap by Will Smith to Chris Rock. I always believe that Hollywood never truly respected animation, and this year's Oscars all but proves it. To say that children can enjoy these films over and over and over again is a shortsighted half-truth the industry currently embraces. To overlook the fact that one of the nominees--"FLEE"--is certainly not for children is an insult to all the people who put in all that time and effort into such a powerful piece of filmmaking. Yet the biggest insult for this medium to bear that night may also have been the double-edge sword both animation and Hollywood must always balance on. The presenters of the best animated films were actresses who plays princesses in live action versions of classic Disney animated movies, which makes the event feel more like a commercial for Disney products: The Academy Awards on Disney-owned network ABC being such a product. The fact that three of the nominees for best animated movie are from the Walt Disney Company more that proves such a marketing ploy. The logic behind such brazen marketing is the simple fact that animation will always be an expensive and time-consuming medium, and the only way to justify such expenses in to get as many eyeballs as possible to look at your product as much as possible. It's all about the classic balance of art and commerce, and animation must always perform such a balancing act for the medium's sake, and for Hollywood's benefit.
P.S.: I also believe that the only reason that the best animation category was created is to make sure that the next time a Disney cartoon is ever nominated for best picture, it with not have to go up against and be beaten by the likes of Anthony Hopkins. That is the type of respect Hollywood will give animation.

I’ve always loved Disney movies and everything animated. The stories that they tell are all amazing in their own way. It’s sad to say that I know many people in my life that shun animated films and belittle those who watch them. The music alone is one factor that brings me joy in animated movies and I will forever be a proud admirer of anything animated. Much love to everyone here in support of something great.

Funnily enough, in my Creative Writing Workshop class, I chose my personal essay on being how animation is a part of media that has a massive audience. My prof is a older woman so I had to keep in mind she hasn't watched the shows and movies I have recently. Honestly I'm just annoyed people think anything animated if for kids. I looked into its beginings and really there wasn't a core audience in mind from what I remember originally. Kinda similar to early films.
What I did was bring up 2 shows I love from different spots in the world: Infinity Train and Death Note. I explained the age rating system in the US as well to put into perspective how limiting it can be for a show that doesn't want only a child audience. At least with anime it has a huge amount of genres and stories that even adults can appreciate.
Heck infinity train pushed the boundaries of animation so much with story telling and serious topics that it outgrew its "targeted" audience according to the creator Owen Dennis and Cartoon Network canceled the show before it could get the best story out there for book 5.
I think one of my favorite moments in the class discussion was how people consider the show Euphoria peak entertainment and shows like Avatar the Last Airbender or even Rick and morty for children😅 the girl who said that was a huge infinity train fan and I agree with her watching both shows (euphoria by accident since my parents were watching it).
I even briefly brought up Gravity Falls and The Owl House just to hammer in my influences into getting into animation.

this whole 'Animation is for kids' mentality, is the very reason a lot of YT animators are starting to make their animations with some adult themes in them (mostly gore), just so TH-cam doesn't mark their videos as "for kids"
there have been some leeway since the whole COPPA thing though
the whole reason for animation was to get us away from reality for a bit. if anyone knows/remembers their animation history, it was never intended for kids. it was intended for adults to help relieve the stress of their troubles in the real world. it was when animation started having colour that it started to grab kids' attention, and things just went downhill from there for animation.

Honestly, even when the animation (or film in general) is specifically made for children (e.g. Backyardigans or Ben and Holly's little Kingdom (though if you are out of the target age group and still enjoy those shows I am happy for you and keep doing what makes you happy!)), that does not mean it is now somehow worth less. I remember watching TV shows for little children when I was that age and they made me want to explore the world and try new things, they had the power to move me to tears. Those are, in my opinion, very valuable memories and even though these shows would not have the same power if I watched them now, they certainly did back then and will continiue to have that power for young children today. And that is just as meaningful as the experiences and emotions you gain from movies for all ages.
In general I really don't like how children are used as an insult.
If good people enjoy something it is a compliment.

i'm 20 years old now and even though I embraced my love for animation, it's still hard sometimes to tell other people about it, specially older people like my parents and grandparents. I tried my best to not shut completely my love for animation because of what people thought. While my friends were crushing on 1D, I was signing "A Whole New World" non stop. Everyday I came to youtube and heard all Disney's songs and knew that I couldn't tell my classmates because they would think it was weird. I grew a bit out of it, not caring for the newest movies, I tried to draw more realistic and one day it hit me. This makes me happy. Animation is the superior art form. I shouldn't be ashamed, I shouldn't care about what dumb people think. Now I'm happier than ever, drawing cartoons and watching animated movies like I'm 4 again

I got pretty emotional hearing that disrespect myself too. Animation needs far more respect than it gets and most of my favorite movies and shows are animated. And most of the live actions films of today are so chalk full of CGI that it almost feels like they could be called animated films too. Like you said, a night for celebrating cinema had no right to be disrespectful to Animation like this especially when live action movies had to go slow down while animation continued to power through and give us some of the most interesting and compelling stories, both as children's stories and adult ones. Just disappointing beyond words! Shame on them. Unrelated note but we're glad you're here to share your animation passion with us!!!

it's not even just animation anymore; genre films like action, comedy, superhero, horror, sci-fi and more tend to be brushed aside saved for the technical aspects and every once in a while they will give them a bone like how "Shape of Water" won best picture and "Black Panther" was nominated for Best picture. but then they go back to mocking said films in a tasteless musical number. there is a reason the term "Oscar gold" has become an insult rather than a compliment; unless your film happens to be a dramatic biopic that depicts the TRUE suffering of the human condition directed by an artiste filmmaker, then your film ain't Oscar gold"

Perhaps one heartfelt moment I had with animation was with the first anime film I ever watched: Grave of the Fireflies. It’s absolutely heartbreaking seeing the perspective of Japanese kids during WW2 and it drove me to tears. I couldn’t help but picture myself and my sister in their position.

animation is for kids is hilarious especially when you look at certain scenes from movies and shows that are darker than some live action shows and movies. Amphibia, MLP:FIM and many more programs have scenes that can be looked at with that meme of "A show for you know, kids"
animation is for everyone kids, teens, adults and even elders, regardless of gender.
As someone who has loved animation and the Disney Princess movies and know that even if they are catered to a certain gender more one way or the other, the other gender shouldn't be looked down upon or thought to be some sort of sexual deviant just because the program is question is catered to girls and the fan is a male.
I want to believe that that kind of mindset will vanish over time, though I'll acknowledge that that mindset if it does go away, it won't go away anytime soon. maybe after 2 or 3 generations of passed away.

Even the animation that’s geared toward children is stock full of themes, lessons, and messages that adults can gain tremendous value from.
I’m a 28 year old rapper who played college football and grew up around dope boys and thugs. And my most listened to music genre is Disney/movie soundtracks. I love the poignancy of the message in a song like Go the Distance or Hakuna Matata. I keep Dr. Seuss quotes on my studio walls to remind me to never stop seeing the world in bright colors.
Bojack Horseman, Over the Garden Wall, and countless films and TV shows have been just as impactful for adults as however impactful the Academy assumes Frozen or Encanto was for kids.
I can’t wait for the day where animation is respected as a viable and worthwhile art form for adults to enjoy as well. Hearing it described so flippantly, albeit jokingly, is sad to me.

Encanto and Frozen 2 for example, both made me cry my eyes out. Not only are they breathtaking and wonderfully made, but there are important stories being told and it’s so sad to see people say it’s only for kids. • @salazarslytherin6575

I seriously cannot understand why animation is so under appreciated
It’s an extremely difficult art form to create and the team of animators storyboard artists voice actors writers and other members of an animation team spend huge amounts of time working on their project even for a five minute short I know this because I have a friend who is an animator on TH-cam I’ve even done a bit of voice acting for him and I can tell you this it is hard work and he puts a huge amount of effort into what he does I’d say that my appreciation for animation has only grown with age I have always loved animation even as a child but I guess having lunch how much effort goes into animation and even learning the difference between good quality and emotion and terrible quality and emotions has also helped and I’d say definitely as an adult my appreciation for animation has definitely grown and my standards for animation has become a lot higher and even as a 26-year-old woman I primarily watch animated shows and movies
Also animation can convey the emotions of a character so much better than live action because animators can play around with the laws of nature where as in live action they are only limited to what people can physically do but in animation the sky is the limit so characters can do impossible things which can’t normally happen in live action

I just wanted to say I really appreciated hearing what you have to share about animation. I also had the same struggles as you did in high school and college being a secret animation, let alone Disney nerd as a guy. There was often an assumption as I got older that it wasn't meant for me and I struggled to convey with people I once considered my peers to tell them how those were not only approachable but really resonated with me. I'm more confident about myself than I was those years ago and I champion those who are in those age groups who stand by animation. Animation is one of the few mediums of film that can reach a general audience and not just children especially when you consider the vast number of artists and technical wizards working on each film to keep it relatable. I hope we will one day cross that bridge where it is more openly acceptable for everyone.

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! may not have come out in 2021
(it was 2020), but when I saw it last year It spoke to me so much that I broke down and cried my eyes out.
I've never had a piece of media speak to me so specifically on something that has defined my path in life, that being a love for animation in both consuming, creating and studying.
Asakusa Midori is the only other person I've seen with my raw excitement and wonder for animation. She so hyper focused on every little detail and aspect of things. Not just in the art itself but the methods to make it. She's the kind of friend I wish I had in school who I could share my passion about this stuff with. It takes me back to drawing diagrams of scifi or fantasy tech with technical cross sections trying to imagine how they could work.
I can relate to Mizusaki Tsubame, she loves to study and understand the world around her and wants to replicate it in her own stuff. But at the same time she's expected to go into the path her parents laid out for her. I had a father who wasn't very supportive of my... Or anyone's artistic endeavors. So seeing someone else going though similar stress meant a lot.
Kanamori Sayaka is the kind of someone I wish I had growing up who knew how to be realistic but still saw the value of art... Even if it was monetary value. I very likely have ADHD and having someone to keep me on task would be nice.
Finally in a literal sense in a way I lived the events of this anime growing up. My high school didn't have an AV club so I thought I could make one with the name under the guise of actually wanting to make animations with people. And while the reality of that was people who kind of took over control to make movies instead of animations leaving my ambitions kind of squandered.
Watching this anime has been really cathartic to see at least might have been and things worked out a little bit better with what I hoped.

I felt so touched by everything you said on this video because I've been there, I related to all of this in so many ways. Just like you, Isaac, and like a lot of people here, I've been mocked for being a fan of disney and animation in general, I know what it's like to feel ashamed of that as if it's not something "serious" or worthy of respect. Sadly, the fact that the Academy underapreciates and maybe even despises animation is no surprise. 94 years, only 3 animated movie nomitations for best picture, 0 victories. Because of course the Academy would NEVER award a "cartoon" as the best film of the year. For some reason, that sounds like a blasphemy to them.
It has always bothered me, but now it looks like people are starting to pay more attention to this stupid prejudice against animation as it's becoming more evident. And it's so great that there are people like you who are willing to speak up and show how outraging that really is. Animation deserves the same respect and praise as any live action film, and it's way past time everyone, starting with the "authorities" on this subject, that is, those jerks at the Academy, learned that. #NewDeal4Animation
