    Invert doesn't mean to move up an octave. It just means changing what note is the bass note of the chord. C E G makes C Major. C Major 1st inversion is ECG or EGC.
    On a literal music theory level ALL inversion means is changing the bass note in the chord by an interval in the chord, as the definition shown described. However, these inversions will often lead to people rearranging other notes in the chord for different "voicings" in the inversions.

    You are doing a "Quick 2-5-1" at the end to come back to CMaj9 (also called a turnaround), but your main progression is a 6-5-1 in E minor (your 3rd chord, which is the actual key), which is probably "the" most common progression in modern R&B ;) Cheers !

      That's just it though- music is all rhythm. I argued with a guy right here on TH-cam years ago that no, its 50/50 harmony/melody and rhythm. But the more I have written music, the more I've studied it, the more I realize he was exactly right- it is all rhythm. Rhythm is what changes and defines a piece of music from another, because we've all put together the same chords and chord patterns, as there's really only so many you can make. But rhythm, texture, inflection, all the fine details are what give your music its personal touch and what makes it ultimately unique from everyone else.

    The progression:
    I9 - V/iii(#5) - iii11(no3) - ii7 - V7
    Cmaj9 - B7(#5) - em11 - dm7 - G7
    Notes:
    -The second chord is called a secondary dominant. The #5 is called a tension note. It means that you are raising the fifth of the chord a semitone.
    -It is VERY common to remove the 3rd in eleventh chords, giving them a softer quality.

    Great video I understand the scale being C to C
    How was The 2-5-1 chord progression used to start the melody ?
    From my understanding each bar of notes represents a chord and the chord being 2-5-1 I would have put first note “ D “ then count the major 7 chord being a Dmajor 7 or 9th
    I need help understanding standing why we chose “C”
    The next chord was intense you chose to make it a D witch would be the 5 in the 251 chord progression
    The third chord was B minor 7
    Then ended the loop with 2-5-1 that was the only point that made clear when it was in use
    I’m not sure how you chose these chords
    I mixing something together I bet if anyone can help explain this to me it would be ver helpful

      I sometimes use diminished or half diminished chords a half step above or below whichever chord I am going to. It does however creates a lot of tension. You can also use substitute chords. C major chord is essentially A minor for example. I’m still learning but starting to understand the relationships of chords. Options are limitless!! Good luck!

      Yeah its fire, I guess its still 2-5-1. I ran the chords into Scaler 2, and it says this is I maj9 - VII B7#5 - iii E9 (sus4) - ii Dmin7 - V7 g7), that's a 1-5-3-2-5 chord progression. I need to study music theory further to understand this.

    • @jaimeverdugo

      So is he wrong when he says he will use the Cmaj scale?

    • @ivansoto9723
      @ivansoto9723 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@elcooljay1821 I think I figured it out. I used Hook theory, what I know, and the midi.
      Imaj9 - V#5/iii - iiimin11 no3 - ii7 - V7
      Cmaj9 - B7#5 - emin11 no 3 - dmin7 - G7
      The second chord, B7#5 is a secondary dominant with a sharpened fifth note going to the iii. The third chord or the iii11, is a minor eleventh. It's very common to omit the third in a minor eleventh chord to avoid clashing.
      So sum it up
      Secondary Dominant with #5---> Target minor 11th chord, with third omitted

    • @OdaKauffman
      @OdaKauffman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ivansoto9723 lol way better than what I thought. Running it through some Chord Player I read Imaj9-VII7(#5)-ii6/B-ii-v. I'm stupid tho so my way of thinking was just matching up the notes to what chords it could be voiced into.

      The full progression was 1-7-3-2-5. There were a bunch of inversions and some flattens tho too.

      @sr.pa3019 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kubarojek122 we can say he used a secondary dominant for 2nd bar as B7 with an augmented fifth (5#), then for 3rd bar he used an E11 without the 3rd(I don't know why he omitted it), after that it's just the common ii-V-I to start again in I (C).
      I would like to add that he misunderstood the inversion concept, it's not moving everything an octave or just one note an octave(this is just moving octaves), to make it an inversion you need to move the lowest note in your chord(the concept he putted on screen says it clearly), so basically what he really used were open chords, 'cause he were not changing the lowest note(the root in this case) of each chord and just moving the others 1 octave up.
