*Wood Dawg Update*. The Promoter in Chicago (House Of Blue) canceled the show. Not the band. The show was the same night as Sepultura/ Obituary. That show was announced much earlier. It was too late to move the show to another venue that was available.
Promoters usually send in half the guarantee for a deposit. So when the HOB pulled the show, the bands only get half their money and lose the show, merchandise sales etc. The House Of Blues just wanted to cancel the show and wash their hands of the show unfortunately.
Play better not be canceling the show in SF at DNA lounge! Woody☕🚬🤘

I drove for a couple really small bands in 2013, and twice they were shorted by promoters. And their guarantee was only $200 total for both bands. Still managed to get shorted twice. When I was a roadie for DOTN 2015 (Krisiun, Origin, Aeon) the promoter of that tour was no nonsense lol. He made sure to collect the money pretty much right after we pulled up to the venue. I specifically remember one date the promoter panicked and had to scramble to get the money. He didn't have any catering ready so he also had to send one of his buddies to go out and buy peanut butter, jelly, bread, etc. lol. Don't know how these promoters think this wont destroy their reputation
A good manager is paramount. Just look at how Peter Grant revolutionized bands percentage and treatment as manager of Led Zeppelin. Sadly most underground bands will never get such managers, financial n other exploiting seems to have been rising for all areas of life past decades vs 1970s.

Just saw Deicide last night in MN, day after canceled Chicago show. Glen seemed in a good mood. He was chitchatting in-between songs… they were great!!! That Inferi band blew chunks!!!! Bumped into the Krisiun brothers in the crapper…. Quickly mentioned how I saw the Jdawg interview to them. They were great guys!!! They only have boy sizes of their tour shirt with the dates on it(small and medium). Got a Black Force Domain instead.
P.S. Sepultura/Obituary also played last night in MN… same night as Deicide

I can't say I feel bad for Deicide getting fleeced. They have over 30 years of experience in the scene. If after that long, they still don't understand one of the two core aspects that keeps a band alive, that being the business side, that's 100% on them. If they can't be bothered to have contracts signed with the venue where they perform at to ensure that they get fully paid what they are owed, as well as getting paid regardless of the outcome of the concert/ tickets sold, the omen of responsibility falls on them.

Ghoulish Dave (aka Death Metal Dave) is a friend of Mike Violate, they're in a band called GHOULSIH GRIN, who are currently recording their debut album (and likely looking a for label to release it). I was honored to have been asked by Dave himself to write up a band bio for Ghoulish Grin and so I did.

For the most honest insight into the soul of Death Metal Dave take 15 minutes out of your day and watch the interview conducted by Mike Violate on his channel. These guys live in the Gary Indiana area. Poor Dave has had to go back to working the midnight shift cuz he can't make a living off his bands. Perhaps if a signing were to happen maybe HHR could increase Dave's fortunes for the better.

Have you read the interview Mel gave where he said that to give 8 Millimeter the desired "vibe" they shot it on reversal-stock, mostly from old 16mm smut flicks from the 70's and early 80's. From an aesthetic standpoint I think their strategy paid off in spades.
