- LLI: Ep 104 - Louis Nicolosi and Trevor McCuiston - Houston Apollo’s Wheelchair Lacrosse Club - Lacrosse Leadership Institute Interview
Louis Nicolosi and Trevor McCuiston share their lacrosse journey with Lacrosse Leadership Institute's founder, Ryan Berns. Louis found lacrosse in high school and ultimately was able to play on the Texas A&M team. He had a passion for the sport and started doing youth programming after graduation. Louis always leaned towards opening the game to others and making it more accessible. He was inspired by one of his patients to start wheel chair lacrosse in Houston and has been growing the Houston Apollo's program since 2017. Trevor has been a very proficient wheel chair athlete. He was scouted by Louis during a wheel chair basketball tournament and has since fallen in love with lacrosse. Trevor's pinnacle lacrosse moment came when he scored his first goal against a live goalie. Louis has many memorable moments with lacrosse. His favorite is coaching a bunch of 5th and 6th graders and inspiring them through an amazing season.
Lacrosse has empowered young players around the country to follow their dreams. We discuss that the best leaders are positive role models. They are focused on their team and always willing to help. A good leader will take an individual, who may not have much fait in themselves, and then help them unlock the capacity inside. Louis has created an environment for adaptive athletes to try a sport that we love. The community in Houston and around the US is so proud of what the Apollos are up to!
Trevor and Louis, thank you for joining us on the Lacrosse Leadership Institute! We are so grateful for the opportunity to share your story and perspective. We look forward to cheering you on! Best of luck moving forward!
