I love that this game made a reference to Corporal Wojtek the Syrian beer drinking cigarette smoking brown bear who was bought by Polish soldiers as a young cub and trained to help move ammunition crates and fight as a private in World War II. It's a very interesting story and Wojtek is one of my favorite historical figures. Even if he is just a silly old bear.
My favorite bit is that after the war he lived out his days in an English zoo and Polish veterans would visit him and jump into his enclosure to wrestle with him and give him cigarettes.

The first time I played this game, it really hit me when Lorsulia was killed. Especially the way it was done reminded me of how Princess Shireen was killed in Game of Thrones. My planning went so hardcore after that, even if Atana breached the gates we outnumbered them. I let Ivo live in the end though so that the people could spit on him every day. Fair play Dad, you got one of the best endings!
I mean, Ivo was clearly a very emotional person that lashed out super hard, starting a war and all stupidly. I personally didn't doubt her death at all
Lorsulia's death was definitely impactful, yet after her foreboding letter coupled with poor Dusty getting *skinned* I think the writing was on the wall that she was about to die. Ivo is a madman, do people really expect him to think logically? Besides, Ivo doesn't *need* Lorsulia to take the throne. What's to stop him from wiping out the entire royal lineage, conquering Davern and replacing them with a new king? Lorsulia had value, but she wasn't a requirement. Proclaiming Lorsulia and her family are evil magic users would only rally others' to the cause, and provide a justifiable reason to dispose of them. Ivo probably deluded himself into believing he was holy and righteous for his actions. Burning Lorsulia would also free him up to marry someone else. So, in other words, Ivo is operating by his *own* internal logic rather than something more universal.
So what I've learned is the best way to survive as a king is to allow your daughter to adopt any animal she meets Litterly,without smudge or our great bear general it would of gone downhill very fast

I really enjoyed this game, but I will admit that as a Polish person I feel quite dumb for how long it took me to figure out that it's set in poland. I would love to see more of this game or the second part if it comes out!

In regards to 12 being old for that time because "people didn't live as long": while it's true that, on average, life expectancy during the European medieval period was lower than it is now, that's mainly due to higher rates of infant mortality which skew the data - if you managed to survive your first 10 or so years, there was a good chance you'd live to be 60+. Of course, this number was often lower for women due to the complications of childbirth, but seeing as that's not something Asalia needs to worry about, it doesn't really factor into our estimate.
Living to beyond 60 would have been exceptional in that time period, even among rulers it is rare to find people who lived that long so for the average peasant it was basically unheard of. This little tidbit has gone so far as to become a myth on it's own, like you're not going to live to 60 in an age where literally any random cut could kill you.

Once you're past like 15 your immune system is pretty well developed for most people so any random cut isn't going to be that big of an issue cause the immune system is really good at taking care of the body even without external help like washing the injury or antibiotics, not doing those things makes it more likely you'll have an infection if it's a particularly bad cut but any random cut wouldn't have been a death sentence. A bad enough one would but normal cuts wouldn't have been anywhere near as big of an issue

I mean that would be how medieval politics worked. It'd be hard to rule anywhere if you didn't have some sort of legitimate claim to the throne since the nobles would all be upset with you because they lost all of their previous connections and deals. It's similar to how today Russia's claims to Eastern Ukraine aren't seen as legitimate and as such Russia has been suffering on the world stage and is facing insurrection in those areas.
They named that bear after the (Russian train station orphan of unknown origin) mascot of the surviving Polish army in WW2, renowned for his love for cigarettes and ability to carry heavy artillery shells. After the war he was retired to a public zoo, and former polish soldiers kept jumping the fence to bear tackle their bear. Those were consistently the times when the bear was happiest after the war. He got depressed stuck in his habitat all day.
The first ‘agent’ the uno reverse snail to the last agent, a bear from a true story. The agents truly did their job well. Also ‘lesbianage’ my new favourite word. I look forward to the second game, a continuation to the tale of the king and his magic beans.
Fun fact, Wojtek was a famous bear that was adopted by a polish artillery unit in the 2nd world war after they visited him in the Edinburgh zoo, but after the unit was called to go to frontlines, their commander told them that they couldn't bring a mascot to war. Now by this point, wojtek was living the life of a grunt, drinking beer and smoking alongside his comrades, so they did what any respectable friend group would do and enlisted the bloody bear. Funny thing is, when they finally acame across the enemy, and the members of his unit started carrying crates of artillery shells about, he understood the mission immediately, he began bringing crate after crate of shells towards the grunts, and for his service he was promoted to corporal. A fucking bear could give lawful orders to privates, now this is unfortunately where Wojtek's service ends, as shortly after the war his unit was disbanded and was returned to the Edinburgh zoo, but this didn't stop his brothers from literally breaking into his exhibit every so often and cracking a couple beers with the chonky bastard, god bless that bear. And I guess someone beat me to the punch, fuck
the music in this game is very touching... even if one can't make out what they're saying. people so rarely put traditional folk singing in games these days, and singling out places to look online can turn up... some very... intolerant people.
Honestly, that title couldn't be anymore accurate. I still love how meaningful the story is with how it retells an important story: There are no such things as monsters, besides man... especially one tainted with the idea of power.
I wonder if "Yesser, Your Gracer 2" would have Erny and Wojtek as a starting point to lead up to "Yessest, Your Gracest the THIRD". That would in dfact be, a TH-cam moment.
This looks like a great game where all the consequences of your actions were very well thought out by the devs. I'm glad RT decided to try his best with this one rather than make a mess of the whole thing just to annoy us.

Okay, to kind of add on to RT's question about Wojtek the bear: basically he was a cub that a unit of the Polish army adopted in 1942 while in Iran. As he grew he began to imitate the soldiers, leading to him becoming very good at moving objects and saluting. At one point the soldiers had to get on a boat but there was a rule against mascot/pet animals being on said boat. Therefore to get around it they drafted Wojtek into the army and he became known as Private Wojtek. As such he was allowed on the boat and got his own paybook, rank and rations, and slept in tents with the other men (he liked to sleep next to them if they were cold. He ended up getting promoted to Corporal by the end of the war. After the war he lived out the rest of his life at Edinburgh Zoo and was visited by surviving veterans of his old unit, they would chuck him cigarettes to eat as he enjoyed doing that. He was also made an honorary member of the Polish-Scottish Association. He responded to Polish and recognised any comrades that visited him. He died in 1963 at age 21. He's still a popular figure in Poland and there are several statues dedicated to him, though I don't think he anticipated being honoured in a resource management video game.

This game presented a really fascinating and compelling story. I was genuinely interested in how it would all play out.

In regards to 12 being old for that time because "people didn't live as long": while it's true that, on average, life expectancy during the European medieval period was lower than it is now, that's mainly due to higher rates of infant mortality which skew the data - if you managed to survive your first 10 or so years, there was a good chance you'd live to be 60+.
Of course, this number was often lower for women due to the complications of childbirth, but seeing as that's not something Asalia needs to worry about, it doesn't really factor into our estimate.
I mean, I think a "good" chance is a bit of a stretch, but yeah the life expectancy jumps drastically once you factor out infant mortality.
Living to beyond 60 would have been exceptional in that time period, even among rulers it is rare to find people who lived that long so for the average peasant it was basically unheard of. This little tidbit has gone so far as to become a myth on it's own, like you're not going to live to 60 in an age where literally any random cut could kill you.
@@hedgehog3180around 40 was pretty normal for average people from my understanding and the wealthy were usually between 40 and 60 but people making it to their 80s or 90s wasn't unheard of which would bring the average up some. Once you're past like 15 your immune system is pretty well developed for most people so any random cut isn't going to be that big of an issue cause the immune system is really good at taking care of the body even without external help like washing the injury or antibiotics, not doing those things makes it more likely you'll have an infection if it's a particularly bad cut but any random cut wouldn't have been a death sentence. A bad enough one would but normal cuts wouldn't have been anywhere near as big of an issue

I mean that would be how medieval politics worked. It'd be hard to rule anywhere if you didn't have some sort of legitimate claim to the throne since the nobles would all be upset with you because they lost all of their previous connections and deals. It's similar to how today Russia's claims to Eastern Ukraine aren't seen as legitimate and as such Russia has been suffering on the world stage and is facing insurrection in those areas.

They named that bear after the (Russian train station orphan of unknown origin) mascot of the surviving Polish army in WW2, renowned for his love for cigarettes and ability to carry heavy artillery shells. After the war he was retired to a public zoo, and former polish soldiers kept jumping the fence to bear tackle their bear. Those were consistently the times when the bear was happiest after the war. He got depressed stuck in his habitat all day.
Of course he did, he was living in Edinburgh Zoo which is a bit shit and I was just visiting.

Honestly I always wanted RT or whoever edits the streams into youtube videos to include twitch chat so I can see random stuff like this.
The first ‘agent’ the uno reverse snail to the last agent, a bear from a true story. The agents truly did their job well. Also ‘lesbianage’ my new favourite word.

Fun fact, Wojtek was a famous bear that was adopted by a polish artillery unit in the 2nd world war after they visited him in the Edinburgh zoo, but after the unit was called to go to frontlines, their commander told them that they couldn't bring a mascot to war. Now by this point, wojtek was living the life of a grunt, drinking beer and smoking alongside his comrades, so they did what any respectable friend group would do and enlisted the bloody bear. Funny thing is, when they finally acame across the enemy, and the members of his unit started carrying crates of artillery shells about, he understood the mission immediately, he began bringing crate after crate of shells towards the grunts, and for his service he was promoted to corporal. A fucking bear could give lawful orders to privates, now this is unfortunately where Wojtek's service ends, as shortly after the war his unit was disbanded and was returned to the Edinburgh zoo, but this didn't stop his brothers from literally breaking into his exhibit every so often and cracking a couple beers with the chonky bastard, god bless that bear.

the music in this game is very touching... even if one can't make out what they're saying. people so rarely put traditional folk singing in games these days, and singling out places to look online can turn up... some very... intolerant people.

Okay, to kind of add on to RT's question about Wojtek the bear: basically he was a cub that a unit of the Polish army adopted in 1942 while in Iran. As he grew he began to imitate the soldiers, leading to him becoming very good at moving objects and saluting. At one point the soldiers had to get on a boat but there was a rule against mascot/pet animals being on said boat. Therefore to get around it they drafted Wojtek into the army and he became known as Private Wojtek. As such he was allowed on the boat and got his own paybook, rank and rations, and slept in tents with the other men (he liked to sleep next to them if they were cold. He ended up getting promoted to Corporal by the end of the war.
After the war he lived out the rest of his life at Edinburgh Zoo and was visited by surviving veterans of his old unit, they would chuck him cigarettes to eat as he enjoyed doing that. He was also made an honorary member of the Polish-Scottish Association. He responded to Polish and recognised any comrades that visited him. He died in 1963 at age 21. He's still a popular figure in Poland and there are several statues dedicated to him, though I don't think he anticipated being honoured in a resource management video game.
I saw Asalia going around with Maya in Part 1 and predicted they would be a thing. Didn't think they actually would.
