Dark urge trying to be good has been fun. I like that events like Alfira are out of your hands and it gets harder to just pick the option to resist each time.
Oh yeah, the moment the buttler told me "Oh you will kill that someone tonight 😊". I had a internal debate about killing the selunite or not for around 5 minutes, decided not to. I was never so scared to fail a saving throw.
It's sweet that all your companions are actually supportive and non-judgmental about it. Half of them offer advice and the other half are like "Well, as long as it doesn't get out of hand, it's cool."
I mean some, others legitimately get huffy about it even with high approval. Wyll was actually super supportive, says he knows I'm stronger. Gale says he should have seen it coming. Shart gets mad I didn't tell her I was the leader of the cult. Halsin is always a bro, funniest part is they act like it's new when we literally tell them in the begging of the game we are going cookoo
Fun tidbit, if you manage to get your hands on the Butlers hat before going to face Orin, and wear it to the encounter, the butler meets you at the door before the temple and will ask you to take it off before you go in. He said it is "Unbecoming of someone of my station". It was hilarious to me that they voiced that. I told him "The hat stays on" and Astarion approved.
I noticed you missed a scene exclusive to dark urge. If you are the dark urge and in the underdark you choose to consume the noblestalk for yourself you will unlock a memory of you and the butler in the past. Just like there is a special conversation with Shadowheart that unlocks an act 3 scene if you convince her to consume it.
The Dark Urge breathed new life into my dozens of BG3 playthroughs. Whatever my intentions when I start a new game, I inevitably end up playing the exact same way, every single time. Save everyone and we all live happily ever after. Make a mistake? No worries, just save scrum. And rinse repeat forever. The Dark Urge is absolutely brilliant because there is no amount of save scrumming that is gonna bring that bard back. It's a brand new game now.
In my run my Durge was quite torn between good and evil. He let SH made her own choice. She spared the Nightsong... and SH's rebellion impressed him so much that he also decided to reject his heritage. His older version would have never hesitated to sacrifice a certain investigator just to get to the Bhaal's Chosen. His newer version gambled a fight... and won. If SH hadtaken a different decision, the game would have been way different.
They are similar but also each others' opposite in a way. Shadowheart is an inherently good person who's been indoctrinated into a religion of evil and brainwashed into thinking she wants to do all this evil stuff. Her redemption arc involves her remembering the good things in her past she's forgotten and making peace with her parents. She needs to find her true/old self to become good again The Dark urge, on the other hand, is inherently evil, a progidy of his own evil religion, and he yearns to do evil. His amnesia is the sole reason redemption is even possible. His redemption means burying the past and leaving it forgotten, abandoning his "father", and literally dying and being reborn into a new good person
This is what I did, and it was fantastic. My Drow Dark Urge is a Selunite on top and I played both redemption arcs. The troubling murder of Quinn (couldn't let Alfira die due to my desire for the potent robe plus I have a soft spot for her anyway) did bother me for several days, but I also knew it was coming. Didn't prepare me for the emotional bit though, even though Quinn was never someone I was going to care about. The writing in this game is beyond anything I had ever experienced before, so kudos to Larian and all the wonderful actors/actresses and developers that made it possible.
I love the narrator's voice so much. On a normal playthrough, she narrates everything like the perfect GM down to the finer details. On a Durge, she really sells that we're a deranged serial killer that has no control over our actions.
Playing as Dark urge and having Laezel as your love interest is hilarious. She half encourages you to kill and when you bring up that you might hurt her she’s like “ Oh don’t worry about me, I’ll just kill you” 😂and 😂
@@mistersandman5811 not really, there aren't any benefits for siding with them. Minthara even asks you later why tf did you side with the goblins without being forced. Which is why I didn't directly betray the tieflings, I instead provoked the druids to butcher tieflings by killing Kagha, and claimed the massacre as mine
@@mistersandman5811 if you agree to raid with minthara but then provoke druids the same day, you can fight druids together with tieflings, but because there are so few left to stand back to the goblins, the next morning the raid is finished before you arrive to the Grove. Minthara sits in Zevlor's cave and says something like "you started before me, good job, let's celebrate"
One thing to add if you have Lae'zel in your party when you end in Bhaal's name there is no unique dialogue. However her face as you massacre Orpheus has to be the funniest moment in the entire game.

she'll berate you but then still ask to stay, and even if you make her leave your camp it ends up the same with you waking up standing over her mangled body

Honestly, I feel that the Dark Urge feeds into our desires to hurt certain characters or have a "complete assholes" playthrough that RPGs commonly water-down (you can kill people, but rarely go out of your way to full on destroy life and torture it. It's not just "keep alive or kill in combat"). But I feel the redemption arc has the best content. The Dark path is just "you've killed a lot of people and become super powerful" or "you've killed a lot of people, become super powerful, but tried to be smart at the end so became a puppet". With the Redemption path, even the small snippet at the end of the Dark path, it gives more of a story. The villain who fought against his father when it mattered most and ending his life to spare the world or the hero who resisted an all consuming darkness, trusted in his beloved to help him, lived on the love from his friends and allies, and died defying a monster of a god so aggressively that he bemused another unknown power into gifting him life once more. Darkness is a rampage you can indulge in to go full villain, but the redemption arc is the best part, even if it is something as simple as saving the world from Mind Flayers and then yourself.
The redemption arc is continuation to the original main character from BG 1&2 (at least if you played that one as a good person). Not the same character perhaps but similar. IMO Dark Urge should have been the default origin. A lot of people play the custom origin ("Tav" aka Gustav, who in-canon should be dead by the events of the game) and completely miss the one story that truly ties the game to the previous titles

Bhaal and his worshippers are almost cartoonishly evil in a sense. There isn't anything particularly deep about them and if what they wanted wasn't so terrible then you'd almost not be able to take them seriously. Fairly stereotypical of an evil god and their cult.
Actually, you do NOT have to side with the Goblins. If you turn on Non-lethal mode and knock Alfira unconscious, the Dragonborn Bard will still take her place.
The crazy thing for isobel is even if you try to suppress your urge after telling her that your blood yearns to kill her, the narrator essentially says, “it’s too late. The moment you made your thoughts known was the moment you lost control of your body.”

Currently doing a durge play through where he is good till he has to choose between the priest or his lover. I already did a full redemption play through, just wanted to test out the slayer form as a “good” durge.
Damn I just finished the game and had a conflicting set of endings, I chose to follow Bhaal and Durge in general and had Sarevok as an ally at high hall. However in the end I chose to defy and destroy the brain, then go on 'solo'. At the same time I chose to save romanced Karlach and join her in Avernus. The section after 6 months I came back as the Bhaal mindless husk looking to kill companions at night.
I wonder how many people picked to resist the urge. The narrator make resisting it soooo god damn hard, and at one point you just accept being a psycho, or tell yourself that you''ve gone too far already so why even bother.
My favorite evil urge is actually telling bhaal to kick rocks, make everyone think you’re “redeemed” and then do a 180 and become the absolute. That way, I become the big bad and not a puppet.
What I miss is that CON, WIS, and INT have an impact on how the dark urge manifests. Next, we play a ROGUE who goes to sleep drenched in blood after butchering Alfira the Bard??? 🤔
I heard that to get the slayer form you have to kill your lover OR kill Isobel (and thus everyone in the last night inn) on act 2 OR accept Baal’s gift, or is there a fourth way to get the slayer form?
there's a way to kill isobel AFTER you kill Kethic. And you'll still get Slayer form, and you can even save the nightsong if you want. So the only casualty is Isobel.
I'm a big stupid and forgot to go back to the tribunal after killing Orin, glad I could see it here, seems like I didn't miss anything too crucial so I can keep on living
I heard the accepting or rejecting Baal doesn’t affect the ending so I want to do a dark urge that TRIES to be good (save druids, don’t kill Isobel or her girlfriend) but accept Baal in the end but destroy the absolute and (romancing karlach) goes to hell with karlach (go commit evil and murder against the infernal hordes), is that possible?
@@artemisshalchi3577 I stopped playing at the beginning of act 3, just a few warnings: I did some research, to gain slayer form you need to kill Isobel OR kill your love interest OR accept Baal’s gift, I don’t want to lose the love interest and killing Isobel kills everyone at last night inn and instantly fails most act 2 quests so I intend to accept Baal’s gift, but accepting Baal’s gift turns jahera hostile (because she has some bad history with him) so if you intend to accept bahaal’s gift you better take all her gear before getting the gift or NOT recruit her and the ranger guy on act 3
@@artemisshalchi3577 I already knew that, if Isobel and/or night song dies (no matter how) everyone at last night inn dies too, besides shadow heart doesn’t really want to kill the nightsong (I really don’t want to get involved with a goddess that erase the memories of her own believers so I opted to not say anything to shadow heart and let her do whatever she wanted) so I saw no merit or reason in killing the night song

The question is, in the redemption ending where you are saved and free of Bhaal. Do you have to kill Isobel. As the ending credits make it out to be as if it weren't necessary as it weighs on your conscience but the death of the bard doesn't nor the drow should you kill her.
You don't have to kill anyone except Alfira/Quill. If Alfira is unconscious or already dead when the Alfira scene would start, her role is replaced by Quill. There is no choice in the matter. Whether Alfira's death weighs on the Dark Urge's conscience is up to the dialogue choices you choose. You can beg Withers to resurrect her for instance, but he will refuse, he says that resurrecting her would only bring her within reach of your urges again. The credits will then cite Alfira/Quill as the death you regret.
@@robertboxwell We have actually found out that you don't even have to kill the bard if you are dead for the night it would have happened. You butler even says it was a shame she got away!
Laezel as your romance while playing Durge is kinda funny. Durge: "Babe, give me a moment. I might just kill you." Laezel: "Aww, you're so sweet~ dont worry, luv~ I'll just kill you if you attack me~ what a kinky boy you are~"
You can yes this is an option if you want a special gift from the demon Butler, but don't want to kill your romantic interest. As for how it would effect karlachs relationship I'm not entirely sure on that, iirc the barrier breaks on her death so dammon would die, so making sure you deal with him first is a must.
For some reason the lover scen didnt trigger for me before i lift act 2 which was pretty sad, i played on tactitan and didnt rest to much which may be why
Just a note for future runs, partial rests can be used to cycle through backlogged events like that. I've taken to doing so either part way into an act or before the end depending on triggers and what not.
Does the Slayer form get taken away if you refuse Bhaal after fighting Orin, Im assuming it does but just wondering if you can keep the form while giving a god the middle finger
If im doing a Co-op run as durge and get the Act of Defiance ending, (Doing Bhaals bidding but destroy the netherbrain instead of controlling it), does that lock the Tav player out of the epilogue? Doing a coop run and dont wanna mess the end up
Not gonna lie, Quil's dialogue is kinda sad, the line "your the kind of gorgeous I dreamed of nesting with as a girl" made me happy because she seemed she was interested in Durge, and I was thinking Durge make your move, few minutes later she's dead.....LARIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN.
It's nice to have an alternative story line for a new playthrough, though I didn't find slayer form very good and a constant, pointless urge to annoy companions and kill stuff was a bit annoying.
The whole part about Alfira/Quil is wrong. These scenes are firmly part of act 1, unless you basically never long rest at all (which would be dumb as hell and even impossible on higher difficulties). The trigger for the scene has absolutly nothing to do with who you side with, its tied to map advancements + whatever other cutscenes may take priority. You can easily get this scene even before setting foot into the major Goblin camp. Quil is a stand-in character, made to prevent the game from breaking, if Alfira is for some reason unable to show up. She has been implemented, because players found a way to save Alfira by knocking her unconcious when first encountering her.
Guys, I don't understand do you have to kill the tribunal to reject baal and get Withers cure you? I killed the elefant and Orin, but Baal was disappointed anyway and didn't offer anything, I am confused. Or it was because I left the duel with Orin and fought with all party?😢 I want the redemption arc, but I can't stand Valeria 😂 also it would be really difficult to kill Orin in a duel as my goody two shoes dark urge bard

I wonder how many people picked to resist the urge. The narrator make resisting it soooo god damn hard, and at one point you just accept being a psycho, or tell yourself that you''ve gone too far already so why even bother.
My favorite evil urge is actually telling bhaal to kick rocks, make everyone think you’re “redeemed” and then do a 180 and become the absolute. That way, I become the big bad and not a puppet.
This goblin side npc lays it on quite thick...I mean the whole lonesome (recently robbed) innocent act.

I heard that to get the slayer form you have to kill your lover OR kill Isobel (and thus everyone in the last night inn) on act 2 OR accept Baal’s gift, or is there a fourth way to get the slayer form?
there's a way to kill isobel AFTER you kill Kethic. And you'll still get Slayer form, and you can even save the nightsong if you want. So the only casualty is Isobel.
Some of the urge options are fucking hilarious if not horrible 🤣

I heard the accepting or rejecting Baal doesn’t affect the ending so I want to do a dark urge that TRIES to be good (save druids, don’t kill Isobel or her girlfriend) but accept Baal in the end but destroy the absolute and (romancing karlach) goes to hell with karlach (go commit evil and murder against the infernal hordes), is that possible?

@@artemisshalchi3577 I stopped playing at the beginning of act 3, just a few warnings: I did some research, to gain slayer form you need to kill Isobel OR kill your love interest OR accept Baal’s gift, I don’t want to lose the love interest and killing Isobel kills everyone at last night inn and instantly fails most act 2 quests so I intend to accept Baal’s gift, but accepting Baal’s gift turns jahera hostile (because she has some bad history with him) so if you intend to accept bahaal’s gift you better take all her gear before getting the gift or NOT recruit her and the ranger guy on act 3
@@lipepseneI figured something out. I saved Isobel. and killed the night song with shadow heart. She gets the blame and I get my slayer form lol 😂😂
@@lipepsenedownside is that everybody still dies (I did it after I was finished at the light inn) and Jaheira / Isobel dies
@@artemisshalchi3577 I already knew that, if Isobel and/or night song dies (no matter how) everyone at last night inn dies too, besides shadow heart doesn’t really want to kill the nightsong (I really don’t want to get involved with a goddess that erase the memories of her own believers so I opted to not say anything to shadow heart and let her do whatever she wanted) so I saw no merit or reason in killing the night song

The question is, in the redemption ending where you are saved and free of Bhaal. Do you have to kill Isobel. As the ending credits make it out to be as if it weren't necessary as it weighs on your conscience but the death of the bard doesn't nor the drow should you kill her.
Good question. I haven't tested a scenario in which you don't kill the bard, Isobel, or your lover.
You don't have to kill anyone except Alfira/Quill. If Alfira is unconscious or already dead when the Alfira scene would start, her role is replaced by Quill. There is no choice in the matter. Whether Alfira's death weighs on the Dark Urge's conscience is up to the dialogue choices you choose. You can beg Withers to resurrect her for instance, but he will refuse, he says that resurrecting her would only bring her within reach of your urges again. The credits will then cite Alfira/Quill as the death you regret.

@@robertboxwell We have actually found out that you don't even have to kill the bard if you are dead for the night it would have happened. You butler even says it was a shame she got away!

You can yes this is an option if you want a special gift from the demon Butler, but don't want to kill your romantic interest. As for how it would effect karlachs relationship I'm not entirely sure on that, iirc the barrier breaks on her death so dammon would die, so making sure you deal with him first is a must.

For some reason the lover scen didnt trigger for me before i lift act 2 which was pretty sad, i played on tactitan and didnt rest to much which may be why
Just a note for future runs, partial rests can be used to cycle through backlogged events like that. I've taken to doing so either part way into an act or before the end depending on triggers and what not.
Does the Slayer form get taken away if you refuse Bhaal after fighting Orin, Im assuming it does but just wondering if you can keep the form while giving a god the middle finger

If im doing a Co-op run as durge and get the Act of Defiance ending, (Doing Bhaals bidding but destroy the netherbrain instead of controlling it), does that lock the Tav player out of the epilogue? Doing a coop run and dont wanna mess the end up
Not gonna lie, Quil's dialogue is kinda sad, the line "your the kind of gorgeous I dreamed of nesting with as a girl" made me happy because she seemed she was interested in Durge, and I was thinking Durge make your move, few minutes later she's dead.....LARIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN.

It's nice to have an alternative story line for a new playthrough, though I didn't find slayer form very good and a constant, pointless urge to annoy companions and kill stuff was a bit annoying.
The whole part about Alfira/Quil is wrong. These scenes are firmly part of act 1, unless you basically never long rest at all (which would be dumb as hell and even impossible on higher difficulties). The trigger for the scene has absolutly nothing to do with who you side with, its tied to map advancements + whatever other cutscenes may take priority. You can easily get this scene even before setting foot into the major Goblin camp.
Quil is a stand-in character, made to prevent the game from breaking, if Alfira is for some reason unable to show up. She has been implemented, because players found a way to save Alfira by knocking her unconcious when first encountering her.

Guys, I don't understand do you have to kill the tribunal to reject baal and get Withers cure you? I killed the elefant and Orin, but Baal was disappointed anyway and didn't offer anything, I am confused. Or it was because I left the duel with Orin and fought with all party?😢 I want the redemption arc, but I can't stand Valeria 😂 also it would be really difficult to kill Orin in a duel as my goody two shoes dark urge bard
