Mouth Taping for Beneficial Breathing

  • Mouth taping is a Buteyko breathing technique introduced by the Russian doctor, Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko. He studied the benefits of breathing and the benefit it has on the entire body. Since nasal breathing is the proper way to obtain oxygen, the technique of mouth taping helps to increase nasal patency (breathing through your nose). When the mouth is taped before bed, it assists the body with breathing through the nose so you get the most benefits possible. Nasal breathing helps to:
    Reduce Hypertension
    Fight Cavities and Gum Disease
    Improve Memory
    Increase Cognitive Function
    Reduce Physical Abnormalities
    Reduce Snoring
    Balance pH
    Increase Oxygen Supply
    Boost Circulation
    Stimulate Nitric Oxide
    In this video Dr. Brown talks about how to mouth tape. He is using the brand 3M. Please note that you can use a wider tape (2 inches) for better results. Using wider tape helps to completely cover and seal the mouth. For this video, Dr. Brown used what we had here in the office. If you are looking to buy mouth tape to try this technique, search for "3M Micropore Tape". This is sold on Amazon, Walmart and many other stores. This tape is very gentle and can be ripped easily and is not painful to remove. That is why is it great to use for this technique. If you absolutely need to open your mouth or tape the tape off, you can do so easily.
    If this technique worked for you, please be sure to SHARE this video or let us know in the comments below!

    So I was scared to try this at first and it didn't really work the first few days (I woke up and the tape was off) but after about a week and a half of doing this, I can say that this helps so much. I've been mouth breathing all of my young adult life not realizing the damage it can do, do this exercise and you will wake up feeling so much more refreshed.

    Ive suffered years of dry mouth, reduction of taste, sore tongue, gastric reflux and intensely sore throat. Saw this and in 2 weeks all of my symptoms have gone. Im no longer waking through the night (10x+), taking pain meds at 3am, I can taste, my sore throat has diminished significantly, i feel ive had a good night's sleep! I'm on half gastric meds and my husband is no longer a grumpy so n so due to me waking him with my snoring!! Best advice Ive never had from my doctor!!
    Thankyou so much... this really had been life changing. PS The micropore traore wasn't strong enough for me first few weeks. I use 2 strips in a cross formation best ( clean skin also vital). Try it ... you have nothing to lose!

I would wake with a solid tongue , zero spittle, difficulty swallowing and raw throat. Im 6 weeks in now and im sleeping properly, brain fog diminished and even my teeth feel better for mouth taping. Best of luck

    Not only will you wake up feeling rejuvenated, but as you are falling asleep, you will feel woozy and your body will go into a parasympathetic state due to the blood flow that is circulating to your brain. Which can sometimes, lead to hallucinating and having interesting dreams.

    As a dedicated follow to the OA and someone that regularly tapes their mouth- has anyone else experienced waking mid sleep, feeling anxious and unable to breath properly? I suffer from hay fever at certain times of the year and am constantly blowing my nose, sneezing throughout the day and generally feeling bunged up. It can take me awhile to settle at night, as my nose clears (albeit only on one side) but I eventually I have a good nights sleep. Except on these rare occasions when I wake and struggle to get enough oxygen in through my nose. At these times, it’s really difficult not to remove the tape on my mouth. Instead I usually sit up and read a book until my breathing relaxes and I’m able to fall asleep again. Is this side effect common with people who suffer from restricted nose passages due to hay fever?

    I've been taping my mouth for several months. I use painters tape without a slit because the slit allowed me to mouth breath which defeated the purpose. Bonus, painters tape is really cheap. I've stopped using nose spray, I'm waking up less frequently during the night, I'm not as exhausted in the evening and I'm not so Irritable. Also this winter I've has practically no sinusitis and winter is usually my most miserable season. Maybe it's all coincidence but I've dealt with sinus issues and sleep issues most of my life.

      @SleepTMJTherapyVienna  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Microtape is great. No it should not make a mark as it is gentle tape. You can stop at any point you wish however, this helps you keep your mouth closed at night so you can breathe through your nose.

    • @SleepTMJTherapyVienna
      @SleepTMJTherapyVienna  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@someone20ify Due to the positions you sleep in, you could still continue to open your mouth when you sleep if you were to stop taping. Your body can get used to breathing through your nose while sleeping however, since everyone is different, we can not say if taping would indefinitely retrain your body. We do know that taping helps assist with nasal breathing and we recommend it if you do breathe through your mouth at night. I hope that helps answer your question.
