      I'm a big fan of Lester Young's blues playing. He was an early influence on Bird, too.

      Maybe a bit too close to Bird, but Sonny Stitt's playing whenever analysed like this always gives you lots of useable phrases. He'd definitely be worth a video of this kind!

    Great video interesting to see Charlies' lines played on guitar - more difficult to play on guitar than on sax I used to play tenor!!

    • @JensLarsen
      @JensLarsen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks David! That's true, a lot of stuff is easier on sax, even so that I think some of his lines are really easy on Alto and sucks on tenor?

    • @davidmadle5007
      @davidmadle5007 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Jens, I love what you are teaching, but I am still such a BEGINNER.......I understand fragments of what you are saying.....do you have a systematic way to help me fill in some of the beginning fundamentals? .....so I can transition more into this cool stuff...... Also I don’t have an electric guitar as I am only now beginning to “taste” jazz after years of more classical training and repertoire...

    • @JensLarsen
      @JensLarsen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, it depends on where you are at. How would these goals be?
      1. Learn to play jazz standards with basic chords, learn a few by heart.
      2. Learn your Major scales in all keys and all positions including diatonic 3rds, triads and 7th chord arpeggios.
      3. Find one easy Jazz Standard and learn the melody and the chords by heart, try to improvise over it.
      Some of this is for the long game and you keep on working at it, but this could get you started and improving.
      Let me know :)

    • @eaglelight108
      @eaglelight108 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jens Larsen .....ok......I will google some easy jazz standards...to start....I have some barre chord issues on left index finger so I will have to modify some of the chordal shapes.....and also know my scales quite well, know the fretboard pretty good.....what about interval shapings such as 3rds, 6ths 10ths? 7th chord arpeggios will be new to me......thank you very kindly.

    • @eaglelight108
      @eaglelight108 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what about modes? Is it good idea to internalize these “guys”?

    • @JensLarsen
      @JensLarsen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Look at Blue Bossa, Take The A train, So Danco Samba stuff like that.
      I guess you should work on bar chords, but the basic chord set you need doesn't really require you to do bar chords: jenslarsen.nl/play-jazz-chords-guitar/
      Intervals are fine! Triads and Arpeggios are both very important in the long run. You could build it: 3rds, triads, 7th chords in the scales.

    • @JensLarsen
      @JensLarsen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't worry about modes, they are not really important for jazz standards anyway.
