    The most difficult thing for me to do is to tear myself away from your very comprehensive, very engaging, very instructive very patiently thought out lessons with your very sweet personality.
    I have learnt ssssssoooo much from you that all other tuitions pale into insignificance.
    You were made for this!
    The world of jazz guitarist would be sadly poorer without you and your in depth, insightful instruction.

    Sandra, I've been a weekend singer guitar player for 50 years. I always learned songs from chord charts and records without really understanding what I play. I enjoy learning and just copying your jazz runs and licks because they are so beautiful and tasteful and fun. I'm afraid i will never be able to understand how to apply them because of my lack of formal training but i have a blast with your lessons. You are an amazing player and great teacher, I love you!

    Hi Sandra, ... lunch was good😉. These licks are great, but they also serve as starting points for great exploration! The diminished launching point off the 5 chord tones has many possibilities! Be-bop-in’ along👍. Be well!

    • @GuitarversumSandraSherman
      @GuitarversumSandraSherman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mahlzeit, Barry! 😊 Thanks Barry! What 5 chord tones do you mean? You can start a dim arpeggio from the four chord tones 3, 5, b7, b9 of the dom 7 chord.

    • @barrysebastian9584
      @barrysebastian9584 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guitarversum Sandra Sherman Yep! That’s what I was meaning (the “5 chord” - dom and it’s diminished launch tones that you mentioned). I love those possibilities, sometimes even 3 or 4 notes out of the dim line can give it a flavor. What one can do in Autumn Leaves comes to mind😄. Great lesson - so much more in there than just the licks. Thanks Sandra!

      Anticipation is a great tool. But you have to add extra notes before best one. You cannot just simply move a purse, that starts on beat 1 to beat 4+.

    did she say the c is the "avoid" note in D dorian? In the blues you can play dorian over the I chord and use the 6 instead of the b7. but I have never heard of the phrase "avoid note".

    • @GuitarversumSandraSherman
      @GuitarversumSandraSherman  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, c is not the avoid note in D-dorian. That would be "b", the 6th. An avoid note is a note that clashes against an important chord tone, like the 3rd and the 6th, because it's just a half tone away. The note b in D dorian is a half note away from the b7th of the Dm7. So you better not land on that tone.

    hi, if i use a grace note to approach a chord tone, will the grace note be counted as a strong beat and the approached chord tone will be counted as the off beat?

      A grace note is always on the same count as the actual now. Otherwise it wouldn't be a grace note, but two seperate notes. A grace note is a very quick, like a 32nd or even 64th, note either slightly before the count or on the count. That's just a matter of taste for the timing.

      @@GuitarversumSandraSherman Sure Dorian is 2th and Phrygian is 3th mode but The schema you show on the screen is E Phrygian , starting from A string 7th fret 7 , 8 , 10 at D string 7, 9, 10 and G string 7, 9, 10
      Am I wrong ?
