    This is just the saddest, vicious cycle of hell! I’m so glad you made it through! It seems so unfair that you go through so much pain while you’re in the throws of anorexia and then recovery is so brutal! You’re a strong, strong woman!

      thank you so so much Carla 🌹 the symptoms are definitely an anorexic's worst nightmare! but the difference you see once they subside is breathtaking, and every day was worth it in the end ☀️ this was such a lovely comment to read, thank you

    This is not a topic I have personally seen on ED's. Thank-you so much for sharing it! Hearing your descriptions of the damage that has been done because of the physical manifestations of Anorexia and the body's response being a painful transformation is so informative! I am working toward a career as a Dr, and this is such a helpful perspective. Well done on your recovery journey, you are doing so well!

    9:15 this happened to me :( I went to several different doctors with pain and major swelling(like 5-8”) and only my primary care believed me, but still had no idea what was wrong or how to proceed. I even went to the ER, right before I relapsed, because I was so swollen and in pain that I thought I might’ve had appendicitis. There, they just told me they didn’t see any bloating. Of course…because I was already thin, so it didn’t look like it would on a person with a higher /average body weight.
    I’m sad that I didn’t see this before. I was 3-5lbs off my “goal weight” which I’d been at previously and felt “safe” at, and relapsed after all that with the bloating and pain, and my RD also majorly triggered me after asking what my triggers were and doing exactly what I answered with lol. I just couldn’t do it anymore. Now I’m back in recovery but I’m in a lot more pain than before. I kind of wish I didn’t have to give it up but I’ve been so exhausted. I wish I’d seen this previously - thank you for putting this out there.
    I wish my RD would’ve helped me more with things like this and combating fear foods rather than obsessing over my weight. That really hurt me.

    This was just the video I needed, I'm now 1 and a half month into my recovery and I've had all the symptoms as you. I have baby cheeks again! but what about your hair? Because my hair keeps falling out, and it's so frustrating, when you just know you can't do anything about it. And also, how long lasted your recovery and for how long had you had anorexia? Thanks for the helpful video!

    • @_amywilde_
      @_amywilde_  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's amazing to hear! I'm so glad this has helped too ✨ I had anorexia for 7-8 months (but eating disorder behaviour probably a bit longer than that), and had thankfully started recovery before extreme damage had happened to my hair! It had become very thin and dry, and the noticeable hair loss I had was losing more than usual when I brushed it, and that it became painless to pull out (in comparison to perhaps losing large chunks at a time).
      As I went through weight restoration, I saw a huge difference in the quality of my hair as it was becoming full and healthy again, so I think the vitamins and nutrition were what helped repair the damage ✨ Compared to other people, I feel like I've maybe had a bit of a shorter experience with anorexia, which could be why it didn't effect my hair as much as maybe yourself and others.
      My biggest advice would be to keep up with your recovery! You'll start seeing and feeling amazing differences as you progress through it, even though it can be painfully frustrating and feel like it goes on forever! But it sounds as though hair loss is something that's really noticeable for you, so I think definitely see a professional, nutritionist or doctor! Their knowledge and advice will be a lot more expansive than mine, and be tailored to suit you personally 💕 My recovery lasted about 6-7 months, and even now I'm keeping a careful eye on specific foods that help with water retention and weight restoration - our bodies have been through such damage! It will be different for us all and take some time, but every step through recovery is so worth it once it's over, give yourself lots of TLC! 🌹 Wishing you so much luck and support with your recovery 💎

      Your hair should stop falling out around the 3 month mark of recovery actually! Of course everyone is different, but thats how long it takes for your follicles to catch up.

    That's so true and thank you so much for bringing it up ❤! Water retention was a huge deal for me. I was in so much pain that I couldn't move. My feet, my belly, my face, basically everywhere was so bloated. I'm now 4 months into recovery and the water retention has decreased so much but my belly still feels very painful. I feel like I have trapped gas, water and it hurts 😰😧! Have you experienced that?

    • @_amywilde_
      @_amywilde_  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      💕 That's brilliant that you're retention has gone down! I'm really sorry you're having stomach trouble still :( I had that too where my stomach was bloated, painful and stiff all the way round to my back after I ate a meal - I researched that the change in digestion our bodies go through after starving is bound to kick up some side effects while it and our metabolism gets used to more food again, I experienced that for two or three months 🌹because you're still experiencing it though I think seeing a nutritionist would really help, that way you can have a professional opinion to make sure!

      I hope you are better now, I know it's been 6 years since your comment. If not, I really recommend you go for deep tissue-massages. Malnutrition seriously damages your connective tissue and once that thing is off balance the buildup is crazy.
      My fascia massage therapist probably saved my life. I have seen over 30 different doctors over the last 4,5 years and none of them did anything for me that created any sense of relief. Everytime I would tell them about my symptoms they would just look at me with complete disbelief.
      The first time I saw my massage therapist I was just in a half-panicked state rambling on about the way my body felt. She just quietly listened to me, I mean REALLY listened. And then she said: "You must have been in great discomfort for a long time. It sounds like your lymphatic system is almost completely blocked because of your fascia being in a bad state and sort of choking your whole body right now. Let's work on that, you will feel a lot better when we get the flow going again".
      I just started bawling. 😂
      She literally repaired a big chunk of trauma right there without even starting the actual massage work.
      I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't come across her. ❤

    I have the absolute worst water retention in my face most noticeably (I have a really slim and bony chest and stomach, do you think this is because I have done a bit too much of facial exercises, to the point where my gum bleeds). It really sucks cause I am still an underweight and really frail but my face is just a chipmunk and my nose is so plump too :( kinda just as you said). Thank you so much for sharing your experience though, it definitely helps me not feel as alone. It just really makes me few depressed cause I’ve kinda messed up my face at the moment, I’ve made my facial muscles bulk due to exercises, and of course the retention too :(
    Thank you for the video though
    Edit: Ik it’s bad to have a set diet really whilst recovering, but would a low sodium and sugar diet be quite good whilst recovering?

      hi jess i'm so glad it helped! 🌹 i experienced hair damage, but i never lost significant amounts - when i was in the shower/ brushed it, a lot more came out than normal and i could pull it out fairly easily without it hurting :/ but hair loss is a side effect i haven't really included because i don't really feel like i can go into that much detail about it due to my lack of experience with it!

    Wow this was so helpful! How long did the water retention last for you??

    • @_amywilde_
      @_amywilde_  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Hannah! I'm so glad this was helpful for you 🌻 It took me about 8 to 10 months for the water retention to stop flaring up (I was physically malnourished for about 8 months before recovery started, so I was prepared for the healing process to take longer due to the complexities involved and the damage already done!).
      During the last few months I found it common to have water retention reappear in certain places (like around my eyes/ nose bridge and neck in the morning, arms and legs during the day etc.), which can be very disheartening when you think it's gone for good! But flair ups decreased in intensity and reduced in length of time each time I continued my recovery process through them; it's a process, not a threshold when it's there then gone like a switch if that makes sense!
      Seeing a nutritionist was the best decision I made to help me understand water retention. It's a complicated topic as it effects each person and body so individually, so seeing a nutritionist is the biggest recommendation I can give to help the recovery process move as fast and healthily as it can! 🌻
      Sending so much support and encouragement 🌺✨

    did u lower the carbs when u upped the fats? Would u mind sharing your diet during your recovery?

    • @_amywilde_
      @_amywilde_  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally kept up a balanced carb intake! But I made sure to eat wholewheat carbohydrates as they are absorbed slower into the body (avoiding a sudden surge of water retention!). As I acted off of my own research for a long time, I did jump straight into all kinds of food when I started to eat more again - but think it would have been a more straightforward process if I had gone to a nutritionist sooner. If you are able to eat carbs, I would recommend wholewheat! But definitely get advice from a nutritionist so you know what's safe for you! ✨
      I'll definitely plan a video dedicated to my diet and the choices I made with food during recovery 🌹

    Hi, did you do a careful slow recovery, or a quick clinic style recovery?
    As i understand it these symptoms are created if you gain weight too fast.
    Can you please comment of this?

    • @_amywilde_
      @_amywilde_  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello! I did do a careful recovery as much as I could compared to a clinical style one - but even then I was learning all the way through as I went to a nutritionist quite late on. But because most of the recovery/ research was done by myself, this could be why I experienced such intense side effects as these! I wanted to highlight the most intrusive symptoms I encountered in case anyone else was experiencing them too, to help them know it is part of a recovery process 🌹 Looking back now, if I had professional advice from the very beginning, these symptoms could have been reduced a lot I think! I was told from my nutritionist that freezing hands/ fingers during anorexia was often a sign that you would experience water retention in recovery, but that was just my experience! I hope this vid was helpful all the same 😊💕
