I was a senior in high school celebrating graduation with a trip to Galveston. I talked my best friend who was on the trip with me to go on a GA flight over Galveston. Bob Holder was the pilot and he knew I was an aviation enthusiast so once we were airborne and stable he let me do a turn and get the feel of piloting. I am forever grateful and will never forget the experience. Unfortunately, my vision was too poor to pursue a career in aviation. However, still an enthusiast. Love your videos.

My first flight was at age 9, in 1962, on Lake Central airlines’ Convair 340. I went by myself from Indy to Akron to visit my grandfather. My next flight was in 1968-at age 15, in a Piper Cherokee 140. I had a coupon from Flying magazine; $5 introductory flight lesson! I was in the left seat and my instructor was Lyle Holbo. 45 minute flight lesson, and I was hooked! Got my private at age 17. Knew then that I wanted to be an airline pilot. Went to college, got all my ratings, job hopped and in 1978 I became an airline pilot. My first flight as copilot, at age 25, was in a DC9-30 with Ozark Air Lines. Fast forward to retiring from American in 2018 at age 65-40 years of being an airline pilot, amassing 28,000 accident/incident free hours. Now flying my 1947 v tail Bonanza in Florida😊

My first flight was in 1959 when my dad purchased a 1951 B Navion. From that point I always flew from the right seat and learned instrument flying as I could not see over the glare shield. I've been hooked ever since. Love your channel. Love Barons too.

My dad graduated Embry-Riddle in 1959 (multi-engine, CFII, A&P, AI...everything but ATP) when it was still in Miami. My mom soloed (in a Tri-Pacer) when she was pregnant with me. I've been flying since before I was born. My parents had more airplanes than I can remember. But the one I learned to fly in was a 1968 150, N3212X. Would love to have that plane back again.

My first small airplane flight was in a rental my dad was flying (he was an Air Force pilot) when I was 8. I don’t remember the tail number, but I do remember we found out the hard way the fuel gauge was not accurate. The engine sputtered, and we lost altitude. Dad calmly figured out the problem and switched tanks. He wanted to try to see if the gauge was wrong on the other tank, but mom threatened his life if he did!

First time in the air was as an unaccompanied minor on a DC-3 from LaGuardia to Youngstown to see the grandparents.
First "stick time" ( I remember about 20min over Boulder) was literally the stick in the back seat of T-33 as an AFROTC at U of Colorado in 1961. (Yep, I'm the getting to be the same age as "old' people). Unfortunately health stalled a military future and 'life (career, kid, stuff like that) meant that attempts at solo in SEL and sailplane never came to completion. But the passion has never died. love flying with you and Kim (and Trent, Max, Patey and the boys, et al) Thanks. Will

My first flight in a small plane was a Pitts S2B with the Holiday Inn Coca Cola Aerobatic team ship #3. I can’t find the tail number. I got to take a friend and we got to do all the aerobatic flying maneuvers. Pulled 4.5 Gs which I didn’t even notice until he told me on the ground. Landing was interesting. You could tell it was wanting to ground loop. That plane doesn’t want to land.

My first GA flight was in 1970 at age 20 in Lakehurst N.J. I was in the USN in A school as a parachute rigger. Since I knew I was going to eventually jump as part of my rigger training, I got a head start and jumped with the base’s jump club who had all PR instructors. It was supposed to be in Marine helicopter, but was weathered out and later I jumped from the club’s Cessna on static line. Second and last jump was from bases C 47 in free fall. Never got my private license but have flown a lot over the years.

My first was back in 64 or so with my Dad back when I was 6. Obviously didn't know tail numbers were a thing. I think it was a 172. I believe we just beat up the pattern at KEMT. Back then the runway was about 1/2 the width it is now and a fair bit shorter and the dairy farm came right up to the airport fence and it was uncontrolled. A little too young to fully appreciate it but it was fun.

I don’t actually remember my first flight. I was that young! The tail number was N7A. Yes that’s the whole tail number. The 1950 Cessna 170a belonged to my uncle from the 1960s till just a few years ago. In 2016 I flew this airplane in the right seat with my uncle’s partner in the airplane. Twice in fact. How many people can say that they flew the very same airplane as an adult that they took their first rides as a preschooler? Not many I’m certain. I should add that this aircraft had crosswind landing gear. The front wheels were castoring in order to make a crosswind landing a bit easier. Sort of like with a B 52. 😊✈️

While I had flown commercially in all of the Boeing airplanes, my real first was in an old 150 in 1981. The airplane was older than I was at the time. Just taxiing scared the hell out of me. My instructor at the time really calmed me down. I went and got my A&P, expecting to work my way up. Of course that was during the crash of aviation jobs across the board. I started to specialize in avionics, but with all the guys retiring from the military, there were almost zero jobs available to someone so green. So I went to University and got my business degree and never looked back.

I searched my area and found a CFI that was active duty in the Marines, but owned a Pa28. the rest was history. I took a few trips in the plane, but unfortunately it was sold. At about that same time I finished my experimental and I've been flying it ever since.

Born in England during WWWII..then came to America with my English mom on the troop ship Zebulon Vance...while my dad was still stationed overseas there with the B-17 squadrons near Northampton and later in North Africa. His own mom had moved from a farm when she first worked here at Boeing in Wichita on the B-29s during the war. Later she moved out to Convair in San Diego. My dad eventually worked at Boeing, Cessna and Beech..where he would take me out to see all the planes at air shows..right alongside these B-17's.. B-52's.. and later B-1's.. at McConnell AFB.. But the same time that Learjet first started up here..I finally headed off to college..in my very first cross country flight from ICT.. climbing aboard this gleaming and amazingly-elegant TWA Constellation..
which first stopped right there.. in the middle of Kansas City..after flying really low over downtown..
    then landing right
on the river airport..(right next to those old cattle yards)..and then it turned right around..and majestly took off ..heading for Idlewild..in New York City..where I had first seen the Statue of Liberty.. with my English mom..when we both went both through Ellis Island..so many years ago..

My very first flight in a GA aircraft was when I was a kid. My folks bought an air tour session at Thousand Islands, near Kingston, ON, Canada. I remember the aircraft being a float plane, probably a Cessna. I have a picture of that day somewhere in storage. Still remember that amazing day like yesterday; call it a core memory if you will.
Eventually, I did a discovery flight a few years ago in a C172. Life had other ideas for me to prevent me from having enough time and money to get my PPL right after. But its turning around for me where I just need to find time to start seriously. I still want my PPL, then my instrument rating, and a plane of my own. Currently eyeing a V-Tail Bonanza lately.

My first was when I was very young so I don't remember any number. I flew in N734VE a nice 172 that is still flying as I've seen it in the background of another video. Our first plane was a 182 N8847X which was wrecked after we sold it. Didn't buy one after that. I did fly a lot of Ultralights and they are so much fun. I do miss flying.

My first small airplane experience - actually my first airplane experience of any sort - was in the right seat of my grandmother's cousin's 1965 Mooney Super 21, in 1966. He was up visiting from Arizona and invited me to go flying. We took off from San Jose and headed toward Yosemite for sightseeing. As soon as we cleared the hills on the east side of the Santa Clara Valley, he took his hands off the controls and said "Fly it." He coached and guided me and I recall I did a passable job of holding heading and altitude - but in hindsight, he had the airplane trimmed perfectly. He took over when we got closer to Yosemite and by that point, I was hooked.
I took ground school when I was in college, but didn't have the money for flight training. About 11 years later, I could afford it, so I re-took ground school and flight training and got my private in 1981. I continued on with instrument training (you needed 250 hours back then) and got my instrument ticket in 1984.

G-BYET, a Cessna 172, nearly 25 years ago. I loved the flying. I hated the high wing. I then transitioned to G-BXPC and PD, a pair of Diamond Katanas which I still fly to this day, although my regular steed is G-BNSR, a Slingsby T67M-MkII Firefly.

First one was about 1958- a beautiful 1956 Cessna 172, blue/white and polished aluminum with the N numbers in large font under and above the wings..... sadly, although the FBO had bought it new, they turned it into a training hack and it was sold when its purpose was done there - N7080A.
