Greetings all! New pedal day for me as well, The tried and true Boss GE-7. I saw uncle Larry talking about it in a video with Robert Baker and realized there was a big hole in my life and it’s time to get control of my sound. Can’t wait to get it in the rig.
Good Erving chaps. Just got released from the hospital after open heart surgery and 3 bypasses. Got home, got into bed and TPS is my recovery schedule. You always find a way for even the worst days seem great! I’ll be laid up for the next two months and there’s a huge TPS bing playlist created. Just want to say that you for starting my recovery off to a great start! Cheers all. Btw all those tones from the post Andy and TPS live show kicked it off. Those tones can heal and I’m prof! Great job all. Thank you for being there for me even though you don’t know it.
For the spring reverb show, I would LOVE to hear the Source Audio True Spring beside with the real deal examples! Many people say that even the best digital spring reverb sounds aren't quite there yet. Excellent VCQ as always! Thank you both for all the wisdom and camaraderie.
I'm a rower. I have a C2 (indoor rowing machine) and row 5 days a week - averaging 50K per week. I HAVE to have music going. I can't imagine working out without music blasting in my ear buds! Rowing is a great way to keep fit as you age. Easy on the knees and gives a good core workout. Love you guys!
Mick, if you're thinking about dropping a humbucker into a Strat for an HSS configuration - I would totally recommend it. I have a 1995 Strat Plus - I took out the Lace pickups and dropped in a Fralin HSS pre-wired guard (vintage hots and a PAF) - and I love it. I keep it in E flat, and went up a string gauge - it's totally massive. Some folks don't like the un-balanced nature - with the humbucker being louder. But I just lean into it - it's like have a boost right at your finger tips. I have a subtle treble bleed in it - and with the humbucker I have a huge range with the entire sweep of the volume pot. I have way more range with the guitar than I had previously. And end of day - if you don't like it you can always change it back. But I for one like it, as I have another regular Strat that stays in a traditional SSS configuration, and the reality is it just provides me with more variety. Go for it mate - nothing to lose!!! 🙂
music is for sitting. If I'm out in the wild running (or much more likely, mountain biking) I will keep my ears open. Sound is an unbelievably valuable sense, if you deprive yourself of it when you need full awareness you deserve to come a cropper.
I had the same indigestion issue Mick! Turned 27 and the wheels started falling off. Had horrible chest pains for the first time in my life, had a panic attack, ended up in the hospital… $1200 for some tums later, learned the old ticker is okay. Getting old is the pits
Cheers Dan and Mick! :) Josh here from Revelation Knights in Oklahoma. I had some SunFace fuzz questions. Trying to choose between the BC183 and 2N527. I use humbuckers and I am trying to find a fuzz that I can play articulate picked hard rock metal style music in The vein of Iron Maiden. Fuzz’s have a habit of muffling my midrange and make picking the kind of music I play harder to play because of what I’m hearing when using them so I am looking for a fuzz that won’t do this. :) Since I mentioned Iron Maiden if you listen to Where Eagles Dare for the picking style the midrange clarity is crucial. God Bless!
I switched browsers about a year ago, and now use 'Brave' (on PC). So far, no ads on any TH-cam content, none even when streaming local tv stations, live and on demand. 😃Don't know if it works on fruit based computers. 🍎
Hey Dan. Went to Clovelly bowling club the other night and saw Jade Macrae sing (she’s also in Jo Bonamassa’s band) outstanding performance. Ever been to the Cloe bowlo?
I used GigRig pedalboard power and Furman for the studio gear, but nothing for the amps. I would like an update on the VCPI, but include power conditioners given the number of videos that find little noticeable difference when I went looking the other day.
I've heard that it is advised not to reposition strap buttons as it may affect resale value. If I bought it I play it. If I play it it needs to be where I want it. If I can't get it where I need it I can't play it If I can't play it I don't keep it. Resale value is always less than "keeper" value - regardless of cost. A custom guitar needs to be "fitted" to the player just as a fine suit is "fitted''' so that it can be "worn" without thought. The strap buttons locations are the easiest to customize to alter the "fit". A well designed tool, instrument, and garment are all three the components of the customizing process. When any of the three are lacking then either a "refit" or "resale are the only solutions. An item's "refit" increases its value. A replacement is necessary only after failure of refit is clear to the player (wearer) (user).
I deal with genre issues by dedicating multi-effects patches to each by style. This is more cost effective and convenient than individual pedals and dedicated boards- if at the expense of using digital rig. I've recently realize that the more I tweak the setting the more alike they begin to sound. Hopefully the result lands me somewhere between genres. Only in live trial can that be "sussed".
Did you see Eric Johnson play his Silvertone amp in the case guitar for the Cliffs of Dover Intro at the recent Houston,Tx. House of Blues Show? Do you think He was making a statement with that choice?
I prefer to keep OD. modulation, reverb, and delay on at all times and balance them until I can hear them all but none overpowers the other. I can stack boost, OD, and Delay for additional texture but they are also preset to blend with what's on all the time.
Andy Timmons plays (T)ruth at Abbey Road studio 2 and I see ”the Red” and Dan’s sg on the back. Maybe video coming up from there? Thank you for the all good years with you!
Smells form a more permanent memory than even visual imagery - especially negative smells. Apparently visual information is used primary for acquisition of information to be evaluated and smells for positive or negative triggering ques.
a MUST HAVE unit for OUTSIDE GIGS or NOISY STAGES... an ISOLATING TRANSFORMER. Primary-side (Input) is Earth-Referenced. Secondary-side (Output) is Non-Earth Referenced, or ISOLATED above Earth. Try It! A Life-Saver, in more than what it was originally designed for...
Bands who listen to each other (and even competitively grow) tend to be the most enduring. Replacement singers must then carry forward the band's identity - or we shall search elsewhere..
My "four pedal challenge" is so much easier: 1. TC Electronics tuner 2. T-REX Möller II (Boost + OD) 3. TC Elctronics Ditto 4. TC Electronics Drip (reverb) All I need for rock/blues/punk...and I didn't even have to leave the land of Denmark :-)
Gall bladder Mick you are the right age. Just had mine removed . Heart attack symptoms .fobbed me off with indigestion for 12m till I was scanned . Feel fantastic can eat anything now .
hello guys from Italy! can you do another envelope filter pedals show? I would like yo buy a vintage sounding one, but Its hard to get a mutron here in Europe
I don't get a chance to watch this much (work reasons). Just a query though, I know you've done videos on P90 pickups, strats and Teles, bit will you ever do a video on single pickup guitars?? Juniors, esquires etc?? I'm forever debating the pros and cons
re: new expensive guitars. When I was looking to buy my Gibson (LP jr) I saw one with lots of scratches on it and I thought: that must be a good one because it's been played, used and loved. Must be a good one then. I have since put my own scratches on it, it's pretty much the only guitar I play anymore.
SMT should not change anything in terms of performance, given the specs are all the same. However SMT is an absolute **** to work with for home gamers, so preservation of the through hole components is of utmost priority for that. edit : we've already lost several important components (e.g. j201)
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like _____. Been traveling and missing TPS and other routines. Good for heart health to hear familiar voices. Dan, you should rush to copyright Stick Shift. And Mick, you've really got something with that slappy slide thing. It's got a future. Love the idea of an EQ show. Uncle Larry has AnalogMan modded Boss EQs on his boards. As others come and go, those stay. Must be a serious method in the madness. Love and good health to you all.
O.K., now try that in 95 degrees Fahrenheit with 92% humidity (in partial sun) - in your 70s. I won't go much beyond 5K - twice a week. Oh, and I avoid the distractions of pets. They seem to feel everything must be pleasurable to their definition.
My custom electric has two pickups but uses a 5 way switch so that 2 & 4 are parallel or series. I have an Ibanez with a switch to put the neck pickup out of phase - but I an NOT a fan. A center single coil set out of phase makes more sense to me.
I remember as a teenager having an amp that randomly picked up Russian radio stations. Just that one amp …. Imagine in the middle of a solo or just at the beginning to the bridge and start to hearing random Russian conversations 🤦🏻♂️ The gigs were funny tho
It was Memorial Day in the US, not the Labor Day. Not be confused with the ol Labor Daybor which is the party people throw over Memorial Day weekend to celebrate the confusion and excuse to drink. But seriously they are different days, slightly different historical meanings like in terms of bullets and stuff
I had a Dunlop Echoplex EP 103. I had the same problem with signal loss. And, just as Dan suggested, it was the power supply. Giving it the right milliamps fixed it.
A second channel to subscribe to for short-forms or just trials of different content would be nice. Rick Beato has the timelessly named "Rick Beato 2" channel 🤷♂

Thanks LEG END'S, I love V C Q it makes my week, thanks again. PEACE AND LOVE TO EVERYONE ❤❤.
When im at a gig, I never leave my guitars in a room where others have access to. I bring them along and feel a bit stupid, but my mind is at ease.
Nothing stupid about it - seems entirely pragmatic. :0)

Did you see Eric Johnson play his Silvertone amp in the case guitar for the Cliffs of Dover Intro at the recent Houston,Tx. House of Blues Show? Do you think He was making a statement with that choice?

Just grabbed a CreiaTone Kleinulator for the Dr Z Max 18 cause I was having a few issues with the fx loop. Will see if it solves it on the gig tonight
The first slide guitar playing i can recall was played with the metal bask of a pocket knife.
Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. Great book about running. Worth the read Mick.
