exactly, just sop communication immediately and move on......some spend way too much time trying to get one dealer to bend to their will, or judge buying based off that dealership......there are thousands of dealerships
I had to have this fight with day automotive Ford near Pittsburgh when we bought my wife's expedition. I kept saying, dude we live 2 and a half hours away from here, it's useless to me. But they kept insisting they couldn't get rid of it. We were getting up to leave and they magically changed their minds.
Last month I purchased a Colorado with an addendum of $3000 in extras as described. The dealer had 30 on the lot. They wanted to move these 2024 units. The minute I baulked at the extra three grand, The sales manager dropped the cost. Got to keep the tint and LoJack. Thought there would be some catch one we got to the finance manager but nope. Ended up being a good deal. Got an LT with an MSRP of $38,xxx for $31,000 plus tax (19 percent off of MSRP). Also got 1.9 percent financing. That dealership has moved 28 Colorado's in the last three weeks.
Arrive at the dealership. Do not go to the office. Walk around to look at some window stickers. If one of them has an "add-on" sticker, leave immediately. Do not waste your time!
I refuse to even pay msrp. Bought my 24 camry se I got 6k+ otd off msrp. You can do it if you can create leverage and competition amongst them. Do not be afraid to drive or go somewhere a little further if it saves you thousands. Dealerships near me didn't budge to much but the 40 minute dealership from my place was willing to beat it and give me an additional 1,500 off. Be patient and don't rush into things. Ofc timing is important too I bought my car 3 days before the new year
In March I bought a Fullsize Bronco for work. I found one in Jacksonville at a low internet price. Once they sent me the OTD price there was almost $6k worth of fees added on. $700 of that was front window tint. I argued with them about the price and fees. They told me that Broncos were in high demand and they were not going to lower the price. I told them that there were plenty across the entire US. I looked at JC Lewis in Pooler and I was able to get a Bronco OTD with extended warranty for MSRP
@ I did my research before I went to buy. I knew it was the end of the quarter. I debated on getting the ford ext warranty, but with the amount of electronics in vehicles, I didn’t want to be out of pocket for a new in dash screen or other electrical component.
Yep, they really do cheat you on paint. I was a lot prep guy as a summer job. The head detailer at the dealership used "spot wax" (which was thinner than milk) on the top edges of the hoof, hood and fenders. It dried instantly and a swipe of a towel (with no pressure took it off. Here's the thing, it made the paint feel like butter but one rain takes it off. It was sad, sales people made customers rub the paint to feel the smoothness and said "that's that paint protection sir, nice right." And this was on 1998. Or they'd spray wax if the detailer was mad or tired.
So they are now charging an additional fee for the factory tinted glass that comes with the cars? Or are they having them sent to an actual tint shop to get real film applied? Charging $400 for just the rear windows is twice as much as having it done yourself at a local tint shop. It used to be that the window sticker would list "privacy glass" as included in the total cost. Every van or SUV that I've ever purchased came with factory tinted glass in the rear but we never paid for it as an add-on.
@jp1087 they are having the side front windows tinted. Very popular down here in the south . And your right it cost me 204 bucks to do ceramic tint on Tina's new zr2. One dealer wanted 1000 for window tint..lol
We have been conditioned to believe that doc fees are non-negotiable. They are simply another instrument for the dealership to add more profit to the deal. i do not believe they are allowed to "cross it off" the buyer's order. Instead, once you have agreed to a price, ask for a further top line discount to account for the doc fee.
I’m confident enough in my position I don’t need to lie. You take it off my deal or we’re done. The End. I bought my Lincoln in another state and shipped it because a local dealer refused to remove $2995 in BS.
I got window etching off and the doc fee when i picked up my custom ordered bronco last January. They tried to say ita a must charge foe everyone and I said no until they removed ir
Some Toyota's dont have a addendum add ons because it's already worked in on the window sticker, if you read the sticker it has 2 prices one the MSRP and the TSRP. What's the difference well they claim they added XYZ at the "port" hence the TSRP so you definitely shouldnt pay add ons aside from the the window sticker price. My question is does anyone know what the environmental protection fee? Working a deal on a gladiator and theyve thrown that fee at me for $2799?? Im probably going to walk ive purchased alot of vehicles in the past that's a new one to me?
I have to disagree on this one. I refuse to pay for any add ons and I just won't do it. It's the whole principle of it. I've walked away from deals over that but had no trouble whatsoever of finding a dealership to take that all off. The last two new vehicles I bought, both had window tint installed, didn't charge for it, and the craziest thing is, I would have been willing to pay for that, had they even told me they did it. The past two vehicles had ceramic tint, 35%, and didn't even tell me that they did it let alone try to charge me for it. Where they got sticky was on some add on insurance policy bullcrap and I really put my foot down over that because I just couldn't find the value it it. Nor could they really articulate what it was. It wasn't gap insurance. By that point we were $300 away from making a deal on the truck and they folded. Just have to be persistent and ready to walk.

@@ericd1632 it was something they done beforehand and put it as an add on.. i did not like the results of the details also.. That was how i was able to get them to remove the price on the detail.
You have the misfortune to be in Southeast Toyota Distributor territory. They add things at the port that you can't delete. Maybe because I'm old and cranky, but if I didn't request it, I ain't paying for it. Even if you go to an order rather than allocation system, US makers in particular will structure packages so that to get one thing you want, they lard it up with unrelated items that you don't want.
Bunch of horse puckey. I have never paid for glass etching, tinted windows, Nitrogen tires and all that dealer b.s. If you are patient and know what you are doing you won't pay any dealer add ons either. This guy doesn't know how to make a deal.
Hey Jason thank you for your knowledge and willing to help out others not getting screwed over. Me and my sister are looking to get a truck or a Jeep Rubicon what can you help with to try and have them lower the price and not give me all these extra add-ons that I don’t really need on a vehicle is there anyway I could email you or even text you?
You can email me thru my website tbwpodcast.com. Best way to negotiate out of the add ons is to tell them you are not paying for them. If they say you have to go to another dealer. Sometimes it takes 4 or 5 dealers to get the right one. But while you are doing that you can also work them against each other price wise
And tell them to remove those stupid dealer decals from the rear bumper. I specifically will not sign the deal until that sticker is off. I’m not doing free marketing.
It needs to be illegal for any dealer to add anything to the vehicle unless specifically requested by the customer. This should also include accessories on the sticker that say "Dealer installed."
I never trusted stealerships to do any mechanical work on my vehicles even when they offered oil change for 2 years free including car wash and vacuuming the interior when I ask for the filter and oil to do it myself they said it will void the warranty of the vehicle if I did it my self my grand father always said there nothing free in this world only fools fall for that nonsense of free stuff but Most of the addons is garbage from Temu the stealership invested $10 cents but ask for thousands of dollars for it total joke now days to buy from stealerships even their used junk are overpriced 😂😂😂
So the dealership 'automatically' installs these add-ons. Well AUTOMATICALLY take it off or don't charge me for it. Why would I pay for something I don't want!
The market has changed. Tell them when you get one in without all the BS give me a call. More than likely they will take it off the price or heavily reduce it. Window tint already installed, tell them you cant have it because you have issues seeing at night. Remove it.
Any additional fees or additions, add ons, don't even negotiate. Leave. Especially when you see each and every vehicle that has them on a dealers lot. Pulse brake lights, pin stripes, wheel locks, whatever. Nothing but pure dealer profit. At your expense. My current car, I specifically ordered. And I told them if I see ANYTHING on that car, even a license plate frame, that I didn't order or agree to, I won't buy it. They delivered the car to me as promised. They wouldn't deal, because of what I ordered, but it was given to me as planned.
No, "It's not a benefit". I don't want it! I'm not paying for it! I'd be at another dealer by now. I had an extended warranty one time. They don't cover crap. Rip....off. And that was their best one. Never again.
