    In 2004, I decided to expand my business and start doing high-end furniture restoration. Specifically, we did hand-rubbed piano finishes on some of the most expensive pianos made - Steinway and Sons. So, if you want to know EXACTLY how to do a piano grade finish on your pool table, follow the directions given in this and the next two videos.
    By the way, these techniques will also transfer to all wood furniture!

    Hi Doug,
    I've watched you 'How to Refinish a Pool Table Part 1 (Stripping the Wood)' vide a few times and am preparing to attempt refinishing a Gold Crown 3 that I purchased. I would like to do something similar to what Dr. Vu did in your GC III install video. The table is in very good condition but some of the aprons and one of the legs are very faded from sun exposure. Did you ever do the remaining videos for this series? I have not been able to find them.
    If these videos don't exist yet, would you mind giving me any tips that you may have for doing the prep after stripping the wood and for applying the stain? I would like to move forward with this project but do not want to end up with a table that looks worse than when I started.
    Thanks!

    Can you do a video of the actual re-finishing? I don’t even own a pool table but I’d watch you re-finish one in a heartbeat lol.

      I'd love to. But, unfortunately, I have to wait for a customer to need that service and be willing to pay the price to have it done.

    I'd love some recommendations on the next steps. We are about a week out from our pool table pieces being fully stripped and sanded smooth. I'm a little lost on what to do next. I've read some stuff about conditioning that I'm not familiar enough with. What's your recommendation on new coating if we are looking for a gray stain type finish.

    Working on stripping finish from Brunswick Gold Crown IV table and having all metal castings powder coated to new condition. Restaining wood then planning on new finish. Torn between a rubbed Danish Oil finish vs a Minwax Ployurethane finish. Like the effect of a rubbed finish. Any suggestions, thanks

    • @CreativeRestorations

      I wouldn't do either type of finish. Lacquer is your best bet.

      @@CreativeRestorations Ok I have stripped my table, aprons, legs and skirt which were stain on solid poplar or veneer plywood. Planning on lightly sanding to silky smooth condition and then applying water based pre-stain conditioner then a water based wiping stain prior to finishing with satin lacquer. Any advise on whether I should use water based vs oil based conditioner and stain? Thanks

    Thank you for these great videos. I was able to disassemble my pool table. Next I want to refinish my pool table to black.
    Once I strip everything off using klean premium stripper and lacquer thinner. Is it ready for painting? Should I use stain or paint? Which paint or stain do you recommend and should I use a top coat over the paint/stain? Thanks!

    • @CreativeRestorations
      @CreativeRestorations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paint or stain? Really, it depends on the look you're wanting.
      Once the table is stripped, you have to address the repairs. You'd have to fill in, steam, or sand out any dents, gouges, or scratches (using the appropriate method for the damage). Next, I would typically recommend using a wood grain filler if you're wanting a completely smooth finish without any of the pores of the wood telegraphing through the finish. Once that's done, I would use a vinyl sealer to seal in the wood; followed by sanding. Finally, I would do several top coats of your choice of lacquer (whether that be opaque or transparent). I would not apply the sealer or lacquer using a brush. I would use an HVLP spray gun to do it.

    Do you have a video showing how to refinish pool table rail castings? I have a Gold Crown 3 and would like to make the bronze corners look like new. The rails are already dismantled.
