Yeah, I hear about it probably twice a year at that spot but it is where the Amtrak goes right by the stadiums and then straight into a super narrow bridge and there is just no where to go on the bridge if you wander up there and a train comes by. The bridge runs right over the locust point yard which is where I assume he was coming from or headed to. Where he was going or was is purely speculation but I heard where he was found and I know that spot claims a few every year..

@@desktorp I doubt any conspiracy or TH-cam intervention is involved. I found Stobe from reading comments about his passing on Owen's RanOutOnARail channel about 6 months ago. And judging by many of the comments I've read on Stobe's videos, many others were attracted here the same way upon news of his passing. I think that's natural curiosity or some might say 'rubber-necking' to see what happened to him and then we got hooked (and subbed) to his channel. The thing is, and I've seen this time and time again, people get a LOT more famous when an unexpected, untimely death is involved.

Just found this channel last week... watched a bunch and then I started wondering why the videos stopped so I looked in the comments and found out... This guy was so cool... sucks that he’s gone.
Stobe was a genuine Legend and i loved all his videos and still re-watch them, but shoulda quit right there when he realised there is more to life, he had so much more to offer. Maybe a TV company could have given him his own show doing something else. It was his personality, observation of human behaviour and US culture. His appreciation of the feeling of freedom and life beyond the mainstream was great and got so many peoples love and attention. Still having said that he died doing what he loved, not many do and there is something special about that. I would have paid good money just to hear him just play the piano in a bar or club. Well first of all they say the train that hit him was doing about 65, I'm fairly confident it was over fairly quickly and he didn't suffer, but the thing that is really most important is that he died living his life to the fullest, and really that's what life's all about right up to the very end...

I've watched them all multiple times. Today I'll send money. Suggestions for improvement are minimal: get a mic so when you're on a fast rattler we can hear your narrative above the train. That's all. I wouldn't change anything else. Not a thing. You're catering to an audience of mostly 'real' folks. They like what you present and how you present it. Me included. I think the cash will take care of itself come spring. And the like minded people you meet may be a platform for your future projects. The rich and poor alike watch this stuff. The old Frisco yard, which is now a BNSF hub shooting trains in all directions, is just a few miles up the road in west Tulsa. It's a town that has little action, but there are a few things here worth seeing and the people are friendly enough. The Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan historic museums are both here and worth seeing, but they cost about 10 bucks. Cheap beer and plenty of stores open 24/7. They sell beer on Sundays. If you're passing through you have a place to crash, edit videos, play some music, get a buzz on, and a ride to the optimum catch out location. I'm an art type as well, musician, painter, writer, dreamer, freak... So, if you find yourself in the Dustbowl, hit me up and your needs are covered in Tulsa area. And you might find an accomplice for artistic contributions of some kind as well. If you're a reader, some inspirational reads for you might be "Bound for Glory" by Woody Guthrie, and "You Can't Win" by Jack Black. Both are rich in hoboing with philosophical twists. Of late, I never ride by the Frisco yards without wondering if you're dashing between trains or camped in the brush there. Because of Stobe I've just bought a train summer ticket for 60euro, for 7 days, you can go all thorugh Czech Rep., no limits on km or stops. I'll sleep in bushes, parks in my hammock and drink beers. Going around Cz with slow train mostly, small towns and villages close to borders, but not only. Plzen, Karlove Vary, Liberec also. Praha, Ostrava and Brno I know already pretty well. Cheers.

Yo Stobe, I hear where you're coming from. Dont overthink it though. Art and philosophy takes a little time to sink in. It's not like a product to be sold. Ultimately, you're grappling with the question of "why". There are pros and cons to do what you do (it's amazing by the way) My two cents would be to add more of your commentary about the places you go through and the people you meet. You have a unique platform to shed light on rarely seen parts of america, certainly on that the mainstream seems pretty unaware of and/or doesn't understand.

Prior to finding Stobe and his videos I truly hated being stuck at the train. The "rush and hurry" of todays life has everyone including me rushing around and getting pissed when a friggin train has you held up. Since finding Stobe I find myself kinda wanting to be stuck at the train just to watch it and take a breather from the hustle and bustle. Watch it as I did when I was a kid. With awe and looking for hobo tags and ultimately maybe see a hobo. I find myself having a "bromance" with Jim and never even met the dude. He does that to ya. His outlook on life, his commentary is somewhat comedic at times and hes been very blessed with a vocabulary I wish I had half of.. great artist he was in many accounts.. RIP Stobie...
He's right, the age the hobo is gone and over. I grew up near Britt Iowa. As the years passed, I saw fewer and fewer hobos come through my town on their way to Britt. The whole "Van Life" phenomena of TH-cam has taken the focus from channels like this. The Van Lifers have taken the place of the American Hobo. RIP Stobe.

I live in western Canada 10 mins away from a large main CP yard, always wanted to hop but want to do it with someone that has experience. The mainline for CN is a couple hours north but it looks easy to hop there from where I'm at. Message me if you end up doing the CN trip and I could help out or at least drink a bunch of beer!

Got my 2 DVDs in the mail to NZ the other week thanks Jim :) A few thoughts from me on making the vids better could be some sort of wind sock for the mic, and the piano could be a touch lower when your talking as it can be hard to hear what your saying, but anyway what ever i like the piano in ya vids. As i said in my email, i like seeing the beers in the shops and prices etc :) since we never see those beers in our country, and the cans are massive as ours are only 330ml. Anyway keep it up love the vids. I use to ride the rails in the guards van at the back as a kid :) No beers just the old mans penthouses and would poo in the pot-belly lmao. Shit im not that old either :)

Because of Stobe I've just bought a train summer ticket for 60euro, for 7 days, you can go all thorugh Czech Rep., no limits on km or stops. I'll sleep in bushes, parks in my hammock and drink beers. Going around Cz with slow train mostly, small towns and villages close to borders, but not only. Plzen, Karlove Vary, Liberec also. Praha, Ostrava and Brno I know already pretty well. Cheers.

People in general have horrible taste, thats why they are watching that crap instead of your quality videos. I think your format is gold. I always wanna see more and have watched all of your fr8 stuff more than once. At 34 i have a full-time job and still manage to get in some decent miles. It is totally possible to make it work. I just am always fiending for more rides and more time off. Keep up the good work, looking forward to more episodes!

Ya know sometimes I think about what it would be like to freight hop/hobo across the Iowa interstate, but I know that that would be HARD. Don't quit, keep up the good work!!

Yo Stobe, I hear where you're coming from. Dont overthink it though. Art and philosophy takes a little time to sink in. It's not like a product to be sold. Ultimately, you're grappling with the question of "why". There are pros and cons to do what you do (it's amazing by the way) My two cents would be to add more of your commentary about the places you go through and the people you meet. You have a unique platform to shed light on rarely seen parts of america, certainly on that the mainstream seems pretty unaware of and/or doesn't understand.

Prior to finding Stobe and his videos I truly hated being stuck at the train. The "rush and hurry" of todays life has everyone including me rushing around and getting pissed when a friggin train has you held up. Since finding Stobe I find myself kinda wanting to be stuck at the train just to watch it and take a breather from the hustle and bustle. Watch it as I did when I was a kid. With awe and looking for hobo tags and ultimately maybe see a hobo.
I find myself having a "bromance" with Jim and never even met the dude. He does that to ya. His outlook on life, his commentary is somewhat comedic at times and hes been very blessed with a vocabulary I wish I had half of.. great artist he was in many accounts.. RIP Stobie...

He's right, the age the hobo is gone and over. I grew up near Britt Iowa. As the years passed, I saw fewer and fewer hobos come through my town on their way to Britt. The whole "Van Life" phenomena of TH-cam has taken the focus from channels like this. The Van Lifers have taken the place of the American Hobo. RIP Stobe.

I live in western Canada 10 mins away from a large main CP yard, always wanted to hop but want to do it with someone that has experience. The mainline for CN is a couple hours north but it looks easy to hop there from where I'm at. Message me if you end up doing the CN trip and I could help out or at least drink a bunch of beer!

When stobe made this video he said he only had 2500 subscribers, wow now look at it 20,713 subscribers, it’s sad that most of us found his channel after his passing, Me included.. an by the sounds of it his train hopping days were coming to an end from what I gathered from this video or atleast not as often, an I heard he was going to start another channel about his piano playing an story telling esd radio host .. anyways my point its crazy that a tradedegy had to happen when he was doing it for so many years, I think he started around 23 maybe younger.. I somehow survive running community art workshop's,i'm just above deadbeat level but happy;) I dont know what other thing's you enjoy doing but if they can translate to workshop's - do it or start looking into it! A few thoughts from me on making the vids better could be some sort of wind sock for the mic, and the piano could be a touch lower when your talking as it can be hard to hear what your saying, but anyway what ever i like the piano in ya vids. As i said in my email, i like seeing the beers in the shops and prices etc :) since we never see those beers in our country, and the cans are massive as ours are only 330ml. Anyway keep it up love the vids. I use to ride the rails in the guards van at the back as a kid :) No beers just the old mans penthouses and would poo in the pot-belly lmao. Shit im not that old either :)
