I discovered this channel too late. I just keep re-watching his videos. I can't accept he isn't here anymore :( Thanks for showing a foreigner a different and honest picture of America. Rest in peace.
Stobe, whenever you're in or around Seattle (as in south Seattle, better known as Tukwila, WA.) you're invited to have a place to stay for a couple/few days; bed, laundry, shower and/or outdoor bathtub, whatever food we have, free wifi, etc. I'm certain my boyfriend would more than love to listen to your stories and catch out with you if possible. Speaking of, depending where you'd be getting off the train near here, he'd be happy to meet you with the car to shuttle you here. Regardless, we're here...
Greensboro, NC -- welcome anytime for beers bonfire laundry and grub. Wouldn't be adverse to driving you to / from Raleigh / Charlotte yards either. Was stoked when you posted video coming through my downtown this summer! Thanks for the videos!
fame and publicity wld have eventually destroyed the genuineness of stobe truly magnificent videos. who knows it cld have morph'd into god knows what. the music played by stobe, the lights camera arrangement. Stobe is a true legendary figure in book of life.
When he was alive I used to watch all his videos but I was in a bad spot in life. I'm not much better off now but would beff pledge a buck or 2 a month for this man
you should go to calgary alberta canada, the denver of the great white north. sadly i cant rent you my house due to rent reasons. there are multiple areas (homes and homeless shelters) with free room and board, free meals, free washsack, etc and everything is fairly cheap. hobos and train catchers go to the drop in center all the time. i volunteered there a few times and the food is actually pretty good. i feel bad for not being able to help out with board, so here are some tips and tricks. i am a foamer in calgary so i know some hood catching spots, areas to watch out for, etc. so here you are. in calgary some good catching spots are the grade crossing in downtown at 11th street at the east end, 17th street crossing northbound, the roundabout at 26th avenue for southbound trains, and the bridge over the elbow river between 7th and 8th street as well as east of 8th street. you can also drop for eastbounders along shepard road. if you need a bridge for cover, go under the bow trail at the pedestrian pathway or under deerfoot trail south of alyth. you need to fence hop though. watch out for alyth yard. if you go in there (you are almost guaranteed to do so) stay put. fences on most sides and a massive yard, impossible to make it through. the bull is also very rampant on the east side of the yard. if you must bail, only do it on the west side. you can escape onto bonnybrook road or bonnybrook place. bus stops are nearby. if you get into ogden yard, you have no hope. that is the company headquarters and the bull is rampant all over. only catch in the downtown areas north of the yards. the train kicks it into full gear at edworthy park and between ogden and alyth yards and they don't stop or slow down for a while. from calgary: cp and cn north to edmonton, cp west to vancouver, cp east to regina, cp south to lethbridge from lethbridge: south to coutts to shelby/great falls montana, west to cranbrook / bonners ferry idaho. try to hop a grainer. get a government of canada hopper (www.tc.gc.ca/media/images/policy/hcf_cover_2009_eng.png). if you look at the ends there is a hole. inside there there is 2 compartments. one is full of brake stuff, the other you can fit inside. my friend did that once and it is quite snug. you can put your bade in the middle in thhat hole. remember to cover it, or bring it in your side of the hole. if you dont know what i am talking about, watch this: th-cam.com/video/P-FYjiGEtsU/w-d-xo.htmlm45s those railcars are pretty common in alberta, saskatchewan, and manitoba. hopefully this helps. good luck! -Q
I'll try to answer some of your questions. First off, i'm pretty sure the site is pronounced pay-tree-on. People who pledge money are pledging to give you that amount per video you release publicly (like here on TH-cam). It looks like you get paid for all the videos that you release at the end of every month. It is possible to release content on your page that can only be seen by patrons (people who donate) as like an extra incentive to throw some cash your way. I think this is probably a big selling point if people who donate can see exclusive Stobe The Hobo content. Even if it's just you talking about random shit at the catch-out spot why you're killing time. I would also really recommend putting in the extra effort to make a video for your Patreon page explaining exactly what you are doing and also polishing up everything on the page to make it look nice. Anything you can do to make donating more appealing is obviously suggested. As for potential places to crash other than with people on TH-cam, you can check out these websites for some options: _wwoof.net_ _workaway.info_ _helpx.net_ _foodnotbombs.net_ _couchsurfing.com_
Damn Stobe, I would have hooked you up with money and a place to stay for a few days had I found this channel long before 2020. Im late to the party and while all the pictures and videos of it are awesome, the party is over. I hate it. I hope you didn't have to work a soul destroying job the last couple of years of your life, and I hope those that donated to your page allowed you to truly be free and as happy as you could possibly be.
Stobe was one of a kind. I think everyone is so bummed not to have got to meet him or talk to him and be his friend. We will all have a huge party in the next life, Stobe is figuring out the logistics and has got the cold beer, good tunes and epic travel tales ready. I cant even really watch any other hobos videos, its just Jim Stobe.
Hey Stobe, dig that BNSF night spot by the river..(kids do your homework)Some of the south side will be blocked off by lightrail eventually.. Was there last night..
I'm in Phoenix, which is a lousy place to freight hop since Union Pacific is south of Phoenix going through Maricopa and Tucson onto San Diego and Los Angeles. The Santa Fe line goes through Flagstaff, 180 miles north. I have lived in Provo and Salt Lake City as well as Denver, both lines are pretty busy as you know well. If you get stuck and need help in either Tucson or Flagstaff I'll drive Down or Up to pick you up. I'm doing work on my house so it's a mess, you can absolutely keep things here and they'll be completely safe, wash clothes, take a shower. .
It would seem completely nuts to locate the main Chicago-LA lines away from Phoenix. They sell tickets for PHX-LAX or Chicago East but you first have to ride a bus for 3-4 hours to Flagstaff. The southTucson-LA, San Diego follows I-8 at Eloy north of Tucson with a stop at Maricopa, a long way from here. Once in a while a freight or Amtrak will will come through Gilbert the town I live in at midnight to 3 am but it's off and on, with nothing listen on the schedule. Does the BNSF line follow I-10 thru Gilbert onto PHX from the east?
Strange how danger was lurking around about a year after this video- Stobe I only wish you were still around making content. Personally it could’ve been about anything. Maybe he would’ve retired the rail life. Would’ve loved more live piano videos. Anything. This man could literally film anything and I’d watch it. If only he knew. Maybe he does. I dunno...
Stobe, I have some friends in Mattoon, IL that are farmers and would put you up. They live near the CN line that runs from Chicago to New Orleans. They don't have a TH-cam account setup yet to comment.
I just signed up for patreon. Sorry it took so long. If you're looking for ideas, how about a how-to oriented video? Perhaps things like "don't get on a ballast train", or other things that are perhaps less obvious (that I can't make up because I don't know).
My sister has been playing the games and I'm so excited about this app she just wanted me and she came and I'm a great friend of a great mother I know it would make the world so happy to see the other two more important days of the day with a little bit
Always down to ride with ya stobeI'm currently resting up and then hoppin south out of Raleigh ncthe lines the kind of confusing here but I found a crazy list of symbols and destinations and frequencies of movement! also that kinda looks like the tressel by tbnsf in Denver? I also would have liked to share a few Good Beer's with you Stobe the Hobo as Iive next to the Union Pacific Rail Road Yard in the Tucson Arizona area. Rest in Peace Stobe the Hobo
Stobe, You should consider "raffling" off a trip with you on a train. The winning bidder pays you before the trip takes place (via PayPal, or some other means), and the winner also MUST sign a waiver clearing you from any responsibility due to injuries this winner may incur during the trip, and also making you immune to any negative action against you as the result of being caught while on the train, etc. You get the idea. Give it some thought. Might be a way to make some extra cash for future trips - Bob
MSUSpartanFootball great, interesting idea. I guess I'm just worried about some guy pitching 50$ and winning. realistically it's the same as going on a guided fishing or river trip
Willing to make a pledge or donation. I live in Bellefonte PA bout a hr from Altoona PA and 1hr 30mins from Harrisburg PA the only two Main hubs around me.. I'd actually would love to go on a trip with you!!! Again more then happy to donate for a train hop to anywhere!
Edwardsville, IL here. about 30 min from STL, 15 min from Alton IL. Down to meet up and have some beers/show you around a bit if you give me a bit of notice and your going to be in the area. I enjoy the piano music and I think you might be the most original youtuber I'm subscribed to. To offer some insight on Patreon, you can choose to have some of your rewards be exclusive or early access videos. The only other channel I've followed on Patreon, Shoddycast offers early access (usually 3-5 days early) to all patreons. I think if you look at some of the bigger channels patreon pages it will make a lot more sense than I can explain it in.
if you are biking the mct trails do not park behind the glen carbon fire dept, you will be a subject of strange curiousity. why am I there with my mo licsence plates? I think that I am enjoying your very fine bike trails. I worked a summer at gc steel so I thought it was cool
If you ever need a place in southern mn (probably not) but I have a farm with work, food and a room. I'm about 20 min from the UP line that goes up to Minneapolis I think.
If you're ever in Connecticut, especially the Hartford area, hit me up for some drinks! I'm leaving here this summer on the Genesee & Wyoming rail that runs through here though.
Brandon S But if u go to Connecticut don't bring ur car. They will put property tax on ur vehicle and if u don't pay they will take it. Wow talking about getting hosed by politicians. How do they get away with it?
Stobe, if interested, anytime you come thru tennessee, I got a couch, and food.. Beer. Small depot right behind my house actually..Love your channel.. We'll fire up the grill, cooks some beef...Contact if need more specifics.. Welcome anytime..
Seattle here, I'm about to move in to a room for at least the next three months so I should be able to help you out with a place to stop in and rejuvenate. I'm interested in a sort of joint trip with you if I can find time away from work/school. I've hopped around, but always in the summer, and I really want to try winter or fall. Have you ever considered a hobo-escort sort of service? I don't mean selling your body, I mean, like, bringing a person from point A to point B so they can get a feel for what the life is like.
If you plan to travel here in Ontario, the CP has their tracks running right out in front of my house on the Galt Subdivision. Let me know if you plan to run by. I can give you further details later.
You're always welcome in Harrisburg, PA mate! You got my number ;) and I have a spare room (as long as you don't mind some dog hair). Also there is an amazing Chinese buffet here I'd love to treat you to.
BNSF behind you cross reference BNSF rail yards judging from the scrub brush mesquite wood and down town maybe Santa Fe NM? But the trees tell me it probably is Kansas City.
At 4:33 was that a hopper, or a graffiti artist? I don't know that it is that likely, but the guy wasn't wearing railroad stuff, he was speed walk, maybe even jogging, and looked like he had a backpack on.
Well, I can't really help with anything other than finances, but i won't be using Patreon as i don't like the system. I can continue to throw a few bucks in every month direct via paypal. I just wish you'd keep up the DVD stuff until the weekend, as payday is Friday! I suppose your subscribers could have advanced notice of your potential itinerary, which we all know can be subject to some major changes, but at least those then in specific areas can make up their mind if they are up for a brief appearance, or joining for for a brief ride. I myself would love to do that, but alas, my usual stop in the USA is just Vegas. As always, i look forward to the new content, and keep up the good work!
I could put you up for a night in Rochester, NY and have some beers with you. The Goodman Street yard is 1 mile away and I know a few places where the freight trains go slow outside of the yard.
This video makes me so. Fucking. Sad. Places like this are constantly shut down. It has nothing to do with environmental protection, this is directly due to local governments attempting to push out people who dont contribute to their coffers. Look at South central Colorado, Northern NM, all of Wyoming...I need to get up here to see what the current status of this place is. I cant believe I just saw this video, wish i would have seen it earlier.
I'm in Miami, FL if you take a trip threw my neck of the woods I will defiantly help you out and would show you around a fun city! Note: super hard to caught a ride out of here tho!
Hey, if I happened to show up in Miami before christmas time frame (dec 15th approximately) what would be possible as far as laying over? I would be flying out on the cheapest possible option around the 20th) Jim
i wish i could help. unfortunatly i live well off the beaten track and i was hit by a car a couple months ago and i still have a hip fixator in and need some more time to recover but when i get to healing up ill be back at it
Just tag your videos with "van living" "rv life" "van dwelling" "living free" etc. If you can get those viewers over here you'll be set. And I know they will watch if they can find you - your content is 100X better than the stupid van living videos.

Give it some thought. Might be a way to make some extra cash for future trips - Bob
MSUSpartanFootball great, interesting idea. I guess I'm just worried about some guy pitching 50$ and winning. realistically it's the same as going on a guided fishing or river trip
Require a minimum! :)
RIP Stobe
non white people... or girls... haha the way you said that was hilarious
He's was a got dam genius, black /brown and females have money to do spend too 💵💵💸💵💸

Legends never die
Oh, cool, I live in O'Fallon IL, so that's actually really close to me.
if you are biking the mct trails do not park behind the glen carbon fire dept, you will be a subject of strange curiousity. why am I there with my mo licsence plates? I think that I am enjoying your very fine bike trails. I worked a summer at gc steel so I thought it was cool
If you ever need a place in southern mn (probably not) but I have a farm with work, food and a room. I'm about 20 min from the UP line that goes up to Minneapolis I think.
thanks. noted
He had some great ideas. I miss this guy
How do they get away with it?
its crazy up here, I don't own a car though but I work here and taxes are crazy
Stobe, if interested, anytime you come thru tennessee, I got a couch, and food.. Beer. Small depot right behind my house actually..Love your channel.. We'll fire up the grill, cooks some beef...Contact if need more specifics.. Welcome anytime..

We miss you Jim. See you on the west bound brother.
Love you Stobe I wish I coulda helped out brotha you’d always have a place with me here in Peoria, IL even if it’s just in my heart 🚂
Wingman should do the same concept
If you plan to travel here in Ontario, the CP has their tracks running right out in front of my house on the Galt Subdivision. Let me know if you plan to run by. I can give you further details later.
RIP brother
You're always welcome in Harrisburg, PA mate! You got my number ;) and I have a spare room (as long as you don't mind some dog hair). Also there is an amazing Chinese buffet here I'd love to treat you to.

i'd love to get a beer with you time anytime in denver!
See you on the westbound Stobie
BNSF behind you cross reference BNSF rail yards judging from the scrub brush mesquite wood and down town maybe Santa Fe NM? But the trees tell me it probably is Kansas City.
hey man! I live in Reno Nevada and if you ever come over you can come a have a big meal and some shots with us!
my email is meatshop775@gmail.com and keep up the good work!
At 4:33 was that a hopper, or a graffiti artist? I don't know that it is that likely, but the guy wasn't wearing railroad stuff, he was speed walk, maybe even jogging, and looked like he had a backpack on.
Looks like you are at the F'NBS yard in Denver. Near the Platte?
If you are ever in Pittsburg KS the beer is on me!
If u Roll ta vegas again i got you covered. The new CC right behind my house. i might even roll with you outta here to. 🍻
The Kyote thanks for the offer. no plans immediately to be there but I have u down.
Lova ya stobe..
Guy running over the bridge
Was that a train hopper !
My offer for beers and dinner still stands if you're interested in Cincinnati.
may be there in about 10 days
Lol the dude catching out behind him.
I could put you up for a night in Rochester, NY and have some beers with you. The Goodman Street yard is 1 mile away and I know a few places where the freight trains go slow outside of the yard.
I'm in nw INDIANA. Welcome to stay. Free beer
What a legend, RIP

'Mercy for those that need it. Generosity for those that dont?!'
R.I.P. Brother
I want a copy of stobe the hobo you will be remembered !
What's the deal with south florida freights? When i'm down there all I see are FEC trains but I focus on streets, and asses, naturally.
Hey, if I happened to show up in Miami before christmas time frame (dec 15th approximately) what would be possible as far as laying over? I would be flying out on the cheapest possible option around the 20th)
Jim
i wish i could help. unfortunatly i live well off the beaten track and i was hit by a car a couple months ago and i still have a hip fixator in and need some more time to recover but when i get to healing up ill be back at it
How did that work out for you
I know you hate Toledo, OH, but I'll give you a place for a couple days. Beers for sure! I'll feed you too!
Just now caught the other hobo at 4:33.
Just tag your videos with "van living" "rv life" "van dwelling" "living free" etc. If you can get those viewers over here you'll be set. And I know they will watch if they can find you - your content is 100X better than the stupid van living videos.
hey stobe, whats the pricing on those dvds? Got any left?
ralphroc 15$ each post paid in the us, u have til tomorrow morning to order, PayPal ID stobeguitar@yahoo.com
4:32 rogue hobo in the background!
