Just saying. I 36/40 last league in 2 weeks with SG spectres by MattC on the Witch Forums, I'm also active there. I'm currently finishing Act 4, and doing it again this league. That build can 100% do everything but HoTGM.

Might try it again later on this league when the dust settles and everything totem related drops a bit in price.. It's quite insane right now.

I'm doing Baron Skelemancer as my starter. Many seem to complain about the capturing mechanics when play a summoner but I don't think it's that bad. I have no problem using my nets among all my minions and timing the throw between all the minion damage is a fun minigame in itself.
I know it's pretty obvious but a juggernaut based on physical/fire damage/conversion (with the tectonic skill maybe ?) could be very nice ! Thanks for the builds by the way !
I wanted to make a Summoner especially with the new Necro nodes.. Buuuuut the League Mechanics seem Super ANTI-Summoners to me, since your minions can kill Beats before you get the chance to capture them and there is a lot of crap on the screen so u can miss your nets. I don't know what to do :((

Cleave bleed leech slayer - kondo's pride based no-crit. Cheap asf, little slow in clearing, but good boss killer. After upgrade to starforge - easy lab farmer. I suppose, endgame won' t be a problem too.

Not sure if totem builds are great in this league. Of course, for the overall content, but totems don't stop killing mobs, so netting the mobs when on low life is very difficult I found. Mobs die before I can put a net on them.
Lifting's Warchief Totem is the best league starter I ever played. Unfortunately Spectral Throw is not good choice. Lack of DPS, weak survivability, mana issue and more.
That is why it is recommended for new players. Very safe build. But the totem play style is not for everyone. You are not really doing much except placing totems and moving around.
If I may say so, your Frostbolt totem build should be on the top of the list. I made it to level 94 last league in a couple of weeks and started one again this league. So may be I am a bit biased xD Also I typically switch to glacial cascade for a little bit (between taking Ancestral bond and Act 5 Innocence, Frozen Trail jewel).Makes Malachai and Norm lab a bit easier.
Never played one but this much i can say. War-chief is more of a boss killer while this is a map clear build (pretty fast at that) and very safe. When you see a monster leaping at you gets frozen in mid air, you will know what i mean. Also at the beginning of a league u need a no-investment map clearer which this is. Just completed Merc lab at 74. Soloed it so far deathless and only traded 1 item so far. Might need to buy a Belly at some point and would like to atleast reach till T15s deathless. .
could work using terminus est and go for power-charges in heiro, tons of crit-nodes in tree and using life+MoM as defensive (which can hit ehp of over 9000 quite easily)

Would glacial miner work? pathofexilegems.com/builds/3-2-glacial-cascade-mines/ i plan to follow this build but im not sure what my early game alternatives are until i get the right sockets and gems (im quite new to the game and this is my first time starting a new league so im excited but also nervous) i really like traps as a mechanic so it looks like fun.
Just level with a random skill until you get there doesnt really matter and if you are new going slow isnt a bad thing. but if you want an idea a generall strong start for spell casters is frezzing pulse + fire trap from level one and then switch to firestorm when you can get it. Have fun ^^

2H crit Juggernaut ele overload to try the tectonic slam, if the skill doesn't work well I guess molten strike should do the job !

You can use helmet "you summon can kill only ignite monster" and easy catch all pokemons.
He's not wrong, a steady and slow dmg output can make it very easy to even use less nets
You only need to capture red beasts and you can't accidentaly kill them unless you have 1m dps and you actually find them.

RF damage not stack you can use 100 RF totems but only one do damage on one target!
