Parrot fish are renowned for loving their hiding spots, you've only just put yours in a new tank and their natural behaviour is to find some shelter away from camera's making videos!...It can take months and months before they will feel comfortable being out and about in front of you
I had the same concerns when I bought my parrot fish but I think the hiding is just in the parrot fish nature. Mine will hide sometimes but it will also come out and feed and swim around. They have a big personality and they are very smart. Each fish is an individual personality. With patients and training they will become unafraid and friendly 👍🏻
I've had several for years. At 1st, they didn't have a place to hide, so they got used to seeing me. They would only hide when a stranger was in the room
Mine did the same. They swam for a day or so and ever since then they hide right up in a cave. As soon as I so much as look at them they are back in their cave. I never see them. Others say it can takes months for them to ever come out 🤦🏻♀️
Mine hides also. My parameters are all good but mine hides all day long. Sometimes comes out but when I get close to the tank it hides again. I have to stay still for it to stay out when I'm close to the tank. Feeding isn't a problem. It eats very well. As long as the fish is eating. Isn't breathing hard. Showing no signs of stress like spotting or flashing then that's just them. I'm pretty sure it takes them a while to get use to you
Initially I didn't give a hiding spot for my parrot fish... After some weeks they are getting used to me. Whenever I pass by the tank they greet me like Oscar fish. They will automatically adjust in some weeks If u do not provide them a hiding spot.
I’ve had My 3 parrot chichlids and since day 1 they found hiding places and they only come out of hiding to eat after I walk away from the tank. But they literally eat like they’re pirhafnas! I wouldn’t want to out My finger in front of them 😂😂
My blood parrots are so shy they won’t even come out to eat it’s been a week of this the food I put in their just lays around in the sand since I constantly have to grab the gravel vaccum to get out all of that un eaten food because I don’t want the ammonia to spike all because their to afraid to come out and eat it. It’s only when I come around they go to hide behind the sponge filters and behind the hang on back filter not even in the decorations their supposed to hide in I’ve tried to bond with them and put my hand in the tank while I’m feeding nothing works. I sit around the tank for an hour a day or more and they just hide the whole time so I really don’t know what to do anymore their terrified of me and anyone else that comes around the tank. I tested the water ammonia is 0 nitrite is 0 nitrate is 10 I have a 55 gallon tank just the two of them anybody have suggestions of what to do to help with this or an experience like this you could share and a resolution that helped.
Mine 3 Parrot doing the same, it's been the 4th day still they all are hiding. Please tell me about your experience and how much time your fish takes to get comfortable and they survive to stay in one place day and night.?
I found the solution to this ! Add a fully grown male Betta into the tank and see the magic happen ! mine only took seconds after the Betta being added, good luck !
@RG-ne6nk off course it works or at least in my case, Parrot fish are also teritorial and would try to chase away any fish that swim close to their territory the same case with Betta fish, also the fact that Betta fish have a calm and not skittish personality and love to swim around to explore the surrounding is somehow what signaling the parrot fish that the place is safe, that's mho, gl.
I'm worried they would start fighting. Some online articles advise against it. I might try introducing my Betta in a separate tank next to my shy Blood Parrot.
um well to help you out with your fish i have the same fish they like to hide alot they are very shy fish to so they will hide alot do not move them alot they are just getting used to the new tank that they are in.🙂
@@yashparsand5544 Yes they are still hiding, but about two or three weeks ago I put them in a container. I needed to clean the fish tank. They are still in the container. They eat flakes and pellets.

They ever warm up having the same problem
They're most likely not comfortable with the tank and environment.

I just got mine and he’s scared I don’t know when he will stop hiding
Probably most or all of them are like that at one point. I think that's part of their personality.

They could chew cichlid pellets to pieces. I have no idea how they do that. Cichlid pellets are hard.
