I have 3 with an Oscar, JD, chocolate, convict, EBA, fire mouth, and severums. They all get along great. The blood parrots are definitely always the first ones to greet you!
Glad I found this video! I’ve had normal BP for 7mo now. My husband wanted us to do goldfish in our 75g but we compromised on the BP because I wanted to keep other fish at warmer temps. You’re right there is so much conflicting information out there! Good to have this as a guide ☺️
All these years, I never knew Blood Parrots were hybrids and other variations of them . The yellow with white and convict ones looked cool. They remind me of blue acaras , kind of big , but not aggressive.
Troy, great video with lots of helpful information. I will admit I was looking at the others fish and scapes rather than these fish. Not a favorite. I hope the ray is doing fine. Sorry I'm so late, I was with my Mom. She just turned 88 years old. Love and Peace.
I'm new to having a 75 gallon tank and I was planning on a blood parrot, electric blue acaras, and angel fish or rainbow cichlids. What number of fish would you recommend? I know I only want one blood parrot but i don't want to overstock
Pro Tip: Blood Parrots make GREAT, peaceful Tank Bosses, and their mouths are too small to eat most tankmates… My Jack Dempseys were picking in my EBA’s, so I put my huge 10” BP in the tank. The aggression stopped immediately. Now the JDs no longer hide, the EBAs don’t have nipped fins or hide in a corner of the tank. Even the clown loaches are out and about! Everyone’s getting a long swimmingly 😊 I have a smaller BP (7 inch female) in another tank and I can tell she is sad that he’s gone, so I may transfer her also… as long as the tank she’s currently in remains peaceful too.
This fish gets very big and is hungry all the time, the mouth gets BIG too. Other tank mates have to be big, otherwise it will eat it. Mine doesn't bother other big fishes except for a severum, I guess that is some kind of conspecific aggression. Also they do eat lot of veggies.
My new aquarium, I just sent it up this week with no fish, is a odd size of 45 gallons. Would it be large enough for a Blood Parrot? I would like pair it with a single Blue Acara.
I have 2 9” King Kongs have been together 5years then all of a sudden they went crazy and want to kill each other now they’re separated. And there big eaters even the 9mm Xtreme pellets
My go-to food options for Blood Parrot cichlids below:
- Xtreme Krill Flakes - geni.us/iTAWsN
- Xtreme Sinking Pellets - geni.us/6ADcc
Blood parrots are cute and I don’t care what anyone says!
Great pet fish really interact with you

I asked for this vid a while back. Thanks!
I’m with you Troy. Not a fan of supporting fish that would not survive in the wild. I also do not like the deformed look.
Whats the lighting on that tank over your right shoulder ?? That tank Looks amazing
The new Kessil Tuna Suns
My favourite 🎉
I see them as the goid fish of the cichlid realm. Cute and playful. If you keep one by itself it becomes a water puppy……
I love cichlids
They’re the best!
@@CichlidBros Definitely
For me I see them as a low maintenance goldfish alternative! ❤
I love my blood parrots. They are water puppies.
Great info. Please tell
Me the name
Of the fluidized bed filter you have going in the one tank Beside the heater. Thanks!
Finally!!
I cant find anywhere to buy a 90 gallon. would you know where to buy one?

It would probably be okay for one BP
@@CichlidBros thank you. I was planning just one with a Blue Acara as centerpiece fish in an community aquarium. I will not be doing any breeding.
@@CichlidBros Are Blood Parrots aquarium plant safe? This new aquarium is a planted aquarium with Amazon swords plants and Ludwigia Repens 'Red'.
how to breed them.?
Discussed towards the end of the video

How many blood parrot fish can be in a 75 gallon tank? I currently have 2 tin foil barbs & 1 blood parrot fish.
I’d do one or 3+
Does this include Polar Blue Parrots and other varieties of Parrots?
Yes
How many blood parrot should i house in 130 gallon or in 5ft*2ft*2ft tank!?
Boil egg ones a week just a small bit soft white he loves it
You should get one please
Your cichlid bros light on wall where you get it made!?
Got it on Etsy. From NeonArtists
Do you think they would be okay with my discus?
I wouldn’t recommend it. Might bully the discus
I had 3 in a 140 gallon with a variety of other fish. Only have 2 now.
How can the origins be unknown? Someone somewhere had a pair of Cichlids and made these.
That’s what I wonder, and not to mention keep breeding them for the aquarium industry, but I guess it’s tip top secret or something
My red parrot ate my clown loach i had 3 of them all gone
Then those loaches were way too small. Normally they are ideal tank mates
@@CichlidBros They were about two inches
Why is my parrot? Sick does water have to be warmer than 74
I would recommend 77-80 degrees
I really do not like them
They are not for everyone
