    We were about to go forth purchasing a Hiker Trailer, then suddenly we discovered Escapod and did a 180! It has everything the Hiker Trailer doesn't in terms of what is important to us. The fridge in the back is extremely ideal, all that counter space along with the easy set up table! The 21 gallon tank (hello!) and hot water (bam!) easily accessible for quick/easy clean up. The brilliance of the layout inside, I can't say enough about. I can get everything I need in there for a 5-7 day trip. No more going back/forth to the car to get items. I love the attention to detail. Well done Escapod!!! We're IN.

    This is a really nice design. I see a lot of folks balking at the price. For a little perspective, I've been RV shopping for some time now. Trying to decide between van-life conversion, school bus conversion, etc. The issue I keep running into is this; if you want to save money on a van or school bus for converting, you have to buy something with a lot of miles on the engine and transmission. Then you will put anywhere between $6k - $15k + to make it a nice getaway boondock vehicle. Then the inevitable happens, something will break down in the engine or transmission and then you decide if it's worth putting the cash into repairs. If it's a really bad break, say you need to rebuild or replace an engine, that price could run the gamut. So then you have a van or something like that that doesn't run but has $6k of interior that you put into the thing. The teardrop-style trailers are not cheap, but the mechanical issues are minimal compared to an entire vehicle. You need to have a vehicle to drive anyway, so buy something that can tow the trailer. If you want to upgrade later, you still have the trailer. I don't know squat, but these are the thoughts that roll around my empty little head. Cheers!

    • @EscapodTrailers
      @EscapodTrailers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and very well said! Teardrop trailers allow ultimate freedom. Campers are free to tow with whatever vehicle they want (off-road / street) and can leave their trailers at their campsites allowing them use of their vehicles to explore all-day, living quarters free!
      In comparison to RVs and vans, teardrops experience significantly less issues. This is primary due to the absence of an engine, and our rigorous craftsmanship.

    The very best, bar now! I almost overlooked this video just assuming like all the others. This is a teardrop on steroids but the finesse, sleekness off 007 smooth ride. This is on my list down the road. Everything I have thought after watching the thousands of other camping alternatives, a covid-19 thing, lol. Wishing continued success. Blessings.

    First timer here. Quetions... why is the full floor a bed? Are any made as a single bed so the other side could be storage or some type of desk? Why can't the kitchen hatch have some type of second hinge to open it up as a window to the back? First time I've ever looked at these little trailers so my question might have obvious answers of NO.

  • @bring_it_on9934
    @bring_it_on9934 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm not sure how much you market to the long range overland touring and 4x4 market but it would be nice to have a slightly larger/taller tongue box which is fully weather/dust sealed and insulated that could accommodate the complete electrical system (lithium) on one side and fit 5 gallon fuel carriers/cans on the other. It could also be used to hook on a trasharoo. Better still if you could have some sort of rotopax mounting included somewhere. We are planning a month and a half long trip through the Yukon and Alaska next year and extra fuel is going to be one of our most important needs so if the trailer box could accomodate 2 x 5 gallon jerry cans then that would solve a lot of our problems as it would for folks who want to go from short weekend excursions to more remote longer duration trips (I would assume this would be the reason why many decide to tow a trailer). Also, some steel sliders wrapped around the wooden frame would be nice. Most off-road rigs use a high lift jack for either replacing tires or as a recovery tool so if you have some sliders it just makes it easier in addition to protecting the trailer. The clearance is good but sliders are a relatively cheap insurance policy to protect a $20+K investment. Same for reinforcement around the water heater box/cabinet and the exposed propane tank. The way many of us wheel we bang up our rig quite a bit with tree branches and rocks etc and everything must be able to survive this.

      Thanks Michael! We've always loved the teardrop shape, but resent the idea that anything beautiful has to be vintage - we're committed to making this the most functional camper on the market :) As for two windows, it would be difficult due to the curve on the nose of the trailer. Our current window is at a nice angle to minimize stress from the curve when installed, optimize the view when lying down, and be in an area that's protected from road debris. We'll keep this request in mind for future models!

    I like the 21 gallon water tank. Also like the tip that the last 4-5 gallons of water can be drained by lifting the trailer from one side. When I heard that, it got an idea of developing some sort of electrical system that will pump out the water from these water tanks. Maybe the 2022 model will have that as a $1,200 enhancement.

    • @EscapodTrailers
      @EscapodTrailers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do have an electric pump that pumps out the water, but the location of the valves makes it difficult to get every ounce out of it. We're always looking for ways to improve this, so keep the ideas flowing! Thank you!

    A nice design you have. Impressive what you have come up with. Two areas of improvement come to mind. Those water fittings look susceptible to damage from rocks and tree stumps as they will probably be the point of contact in narrow sections of the trail. Also, the knob that holds your table in place will probably become a lost item for many customers. Why not use a ball detent pin on a wire?

    I love this trailer and it is perfect for behind my lifted Jeep. I am a solo female so is it possible to do a twin bed instead of a queen? My thought for me is to do a twin mattress that would also double as a seat and add a small removable table to floor. Also what are your thoughts on installing a batwing awning on this trailer? Feasible with rear hatch open? Would want it to cover from shower, maybe, or just galley around and cover passenger door.

    Looks pretty nice. I’m really liking that integrated solar panel, but still not loving the massive square plastic (?) box housing the water heater. It’s ugly, non-aerodynamic, and seems like it could get cracked from road debris. I’m sure having the hot water is super nice though.
    I’m between you guys and Bean. I like the lower overall height of your units, but their one-piece fiberglass body may have me sold, especially since mine will be living outside in the rainy PNW. 🌧 I also like that their cabinets go between galley and interior so you can access that gear two ways.
    Suggestions for video production: speaker needs a mic, videographer needs a tissue, and shop needs to kill the tunes. 🎤🤧🎼😉

    • @EscapodTrailers
      @EscapodTrailers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the feedback Kevin - Got some answers for you:
      1) I understand your feedback on the water heater box. We've begun to do a lot more custom box design, and though this box has worked well for us in the past, we do imagine a near future in which we have a better solution for this.
      2) I can understand that a fiberglass body is a nice selling point, but there are many ways to properly seal a trailer, and we go to great lengths to ensure our wooden structure is watertight (not to mention much more comfortable inside with the wood). All seams are sealed with vinyl tape, then butyl, then trim with silicone on each edge. I've never received word from our customers that our Topo Series is susceptible to any body leaking. We've overcome some challenges with the doors and hinge in past years, but we've addressed all concerns and are very confident in our trailers ability to handle demanding elements. I'm happy to talk through more details of our build, like a complete mortise and tenon construction, that lead to significant more rigidity and ability to handle not just tough elements, but really tough terrain. Even better, you're welcome to visit our shop and see the steps we go through in our build process.
      3) I hear your comments regarding video quality. Sometimes the choice is between a quick video or no video at all. We have the necessary equipment, but this was a really exciting build and an impromptu video before our customer came to pick up. Will make sure we bust out the proper gear next time! ;)

      You should also consider www.turtleuptrailers.com most people have never heard of them including me recently. There are a few videos on TH-cam. Base Price ~ $12K with no wood and is a larger cabin @ 6' x 10' versus 5' x 9' 6". With options would probably be in the high teens to low 20's.

    I wonder if the 2in receiver tube behind the passenger side fender can somehow be used to hold the weight of a spare tire instead of mounting it to the wall of the trailer?

    • @EscapodTrailers
      @EscapodTrailers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting idea...we looked at it initially and weren't sold on it because the tire ended up sticking above the profile of the trailer so much. Always had a hard time figuring out where to put this...we moved it all around the trailer, and then came back to the fender as the best balance of structure, cost, and aesthetics.

      @@dac7046 yah they are very cool and there are many videos about them. Also the reason it is 25k is because of the add on. The hiker trailer could easily be 25k if you get a solar panel, awning, ect. But they do have more options to make it cheaper and some people even upgrade as they go. If you want the full offroad its about 9800 for a 5 by 10 if I remember and they can go as low as 4k or the most basic road only trailer. Hoped it helped. In the end I think there both priced okay just depends on what your wants and needs are which hiker is good at.

    For those of us up in MN with tons of salt on the road in the winter, is there any protection from that hazard?

    • @EscapodTrailers
      @EscapodTrailers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The frame is sandblasted, powder coated, and reinforced with bed liner in areas prone to road debris - This setup as well as a heavy-duty woven HDPE fabric underneath completely seals the wooden cabin from any water or salt. The cabin walls and roof are lined with .050 aluminum (anodized on the sides and powder coated on top), and the anodized trim is on the edges is sealed with vinyl tape, then butyl tape and reinforced with silicon on the seams. We do everything we can to make our trailer withstand any environments. If you have any specific concerns don't hesitate to reach out and ask!
