I did this without using maintenance mode or a scan tool. Use a funnel that will fit into the radiator cap neck and seal. Pour in the coolant until it won't take more. Squeeze the radiator hose on the other side to burp out air. Repeat adding coolant and burping until you can't burp out any more air. Fill the funnel again then open the bleed valve until coolant runs out. Close the bleed valve. If the funnel is empty, add more coolant. Start the car normally then when the engine shuts off, go check if the funnel is empty. If it is, add more coolant. Get back in the car, hold the brake and press the gas until the engine starts. Turn off the AC, put the windows down, crank up the heat and run it until you get warm air out the vents. Let off the gas and the engine should stop. Check the coolant level again. Take out the funnel and add until the neck is full. Get back in and hold the gas and brake to run it for a bit, then see if the coolant has gone down. If it has, repeat until it won't take any more. If it hasn't gone down, it's full. Put the radiator cap on and mostly fill the overflow tank. Go for a drive for ways then come back and let it cool down to see how much it's pulled back in from the overflow. Doing it this way it's much easier to have a helper to hold the gas and brake because you can do all the post-burping filling in one go, just keep adding until it doesn't take in any more.
Just replaced my 2005 Prius water pump. One tip I might mention: The coolant system in this car is a bit weird and needs to bled properly of air. There is a coolant storage tank on the front left of the engine compartment. When you turn the car off, that whirring noise you hear is a small motor pumping coolant into that storage tank. What I thought of doing was jacking the right side of the car up for the water pump replacement. I figured this would keep most of the coolant towards the left of the block and the storage tank. I found that when I jumped the relay for the tank, it bled quickly because not a whole lot of air in there. Of note, I kept the car jacked and tilted left during the tank bleeding process.
Your only losing on a litre of coolant just fill up radiator turn heat on high drive it around then turn off and refill radiator and your done ! no scan tool and you don't need to open bleeder screw unless your replacing radiator and water pump !
Secod question When i start engin battery low when i put on gas car drive but when i stop on traffic ligths after push gas engien givevoice but dont move . What problen it can be ?
Hi i have question . Sometimes on display write that on parking battery are not charging and write on display put on N . When i put N. Car give vibration and lights coming going what problem it can be ?
1. Inverter water pump is the first to die 2nd could be stuck thermostat 3. Other part, see Engine codes 1st time i got red triangle, vsc, and all the rest. IT WAS THE INVERTER PUMP $110 toyota dealer part $30 2nd time it happnd, ebay
I have multiple scanners but a bluetooth wireless gives you that data PLUS you can install Dr. Prius on your phone and monitor your main battery for voltage on all blocks and most importantly, internal resistance of each block. Better than Torque Pro for battery data.
My prius gave out on the A/C and heater..then i would get low coolant and temp sensor.....that was like 2 months ago...fast foward to now..I have a super coolant leak and the temp sensor goes off...i cant find no leak in the hoses.and the car dont smoke..help!!
@@JaboTheMechanic we did the job put coolant i dint know there was a screw till i saw ur video i already put collant n drove it last night what happens if i didnt turnt the screw n justbout coolant

Wow now i know what my prius needed been to a few mechanics and none have given me an answer but this is a great demonstration thanks
You are a born teacher. Great video. Thanks
Thank you! Glad it helped
Great Video! Made my water pump change a breeze. Thanks for posting and taking the time! Great work! My ride is back up and running!

Good video, man. To the point with clear angles.
Thanks for doing the video. Lots of good information.
Podrías mostrar cómo cambiar las mangueras del sistema de limpiaparabrisas y por donde va hacia atrás y cómo funciona
Great video. Concise, clear instruction!! Thank you!
Glad it helped
Great video! Could you have put the screwdriver between two pulley bolts to hold it in place while u go around and loosen each bolt
Awesome video. Thank you for the content, it was very helpful. 👍👍👍

Hi,
Thank you for video
Can you make a list of all the tools you using. Thanks

You have some serious small hands to fit in there 😂
Exactly 😂.
I'd like to ask you what is going on when I have a red triangle death on my Pruis 2008 panel? Could it be water pump?
1. Inverter water pump is the first to die
2nd could be stuck thermostat
3. Other part, see Engine codes
1st time i got red triangle, vsc, and all the rest. IT WAS THE INVERTER PUMP
$110 toyota dealer part
$30 2nd time it happnd, ebay
First. Take it OUT of maintenance mode when going for that drive. You should also change the thermostat since you're going to all that trouble.
Great video!
Good video but you didn't mention tension on the serpentine belt
Or any torque values

I wanna know in my Prius 2011 there is water leakage straight downside of passenger seat what is the reason behind it??
heater core
My prius gave out on the A/C and heater..then i would get low coolant and temp sensor.....that was like 2 months ago...fast foward to now..I have a super coolant leak and the temp sensor goes off...i cant find no leak in the hoses.and the car dont smoke..help!!
I would do a pressure check on it
Am lois, my Toyota aqua hybrid engine pump B has a fault, I had it scanned today... can you show me something I can do...
Year and code
how much coolant do i need ?is one gallon enough to fill the system up?
less than a half gallon
Can u not put the pulley on before you install the pump
Nah it gets in the way
I'm changing my water Pump tomorrow. My dealership tried to rip me off. They wanted to charge me $700.
Changed it, my car works good now, no more sound. Unless I make $200 an hour, their is no way I'm having these greedy dealerships fix my car.

Really good video thanks!
Can you make a video on how to replace the heater hoses and thermostat on Gen 2 Prius? TY
Awesome video! Do you know roughly the torque specs for pulley and pump bolts?
lol just eyeball it
They are pretty light, 8 ftlb for pump, 11 for pulley
Great be info
Great video, how much you charge to change my 2014 Prius water pump?
Ligma
Hi do i need to bleed it i didnt u think its a problem?
Yes you have to bleed it
@@JaboTheMechanic we did the job put coolant i dint know there was a screw till i saw ur video i already put collant n drove it last night what happens if i didnt turnt the screw n justbout coolant
It will overheat
theres a bleeder valve so it's easy. Just youtube the location of the bleeder valve for coolant
Also it was relly helpful and i don't mean it in a bad wayin a godd way
What was wrong with water pump?
Pulley had a wobble
I got a problem a 2005 Prius
Oh man... that is not the way Toyota likes us to apply RTV.
Who cares as long as it works
What scanner tool are you using?
