      It was obviously faked for even lego gave you an "extra" astronaut for they knew the extra astronaut was used for a standin in case one of the astronauts got sick while taping the landing on the hollywood set. (I'm being sarcastic and joking).

    1969 pcs for 1969 AD O_O! I love this!

  • @aWildLupi

    You hit it right on the head; take the floaties off, swap the command module on, and put it in place against the lunar module. The moon and splashdown baseplates are basically for displaying the parts to do so when not in use.
    I don't recall if it's mentioned, but the white cone used when assembling the rocket is intended to represent the protective shroud attached to the capsule with the LES and it goes with it during launch, at which point you'd swap the white cone for the grey one.

    • @aWildLupi
      @aWildLupi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's also worth noting that they actually had to cut DOWN on parts to get to the 1969. I recall reading that they weren't originally aiming for the number, but when the grand piece total came up to 1973, they found themselves in a position where they couldn't possibly let it be, and cut parts where they could to make it work.

    • @searme
      @searme  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Towards the end of the build there are several instances of e.g. two 1x3 plates being used where one 1x6 plate could be used. Which suggests that they were increasing piece count at this point.

    If not mistaken, on the real rocket, the escape system was 'capped' over the command module. So, switching it out with the splashdown version to do the link up is propper.

    [Little nitpick: the third stage does not connect to the third stage (believe me, I tried).]

    I enjoyed building it as a LEGO® kit, but it should be called Big Lego® Rocket, not LEGO® NASA Apollo Saturn V. As a Saturn V it's a very big disappointment, unless you don't know what a Saturn V actually looks like. I finally had to put it back in the box and the back of the closet. Maybe if they do it a third time, they will make some real, significant changes and not just a plate for better clutching. With the second release, they could have at the very least replaced those awful white Saturn IB shaped fins with correct titanium Saturn V shaped fins. As for being to scale because of height alone?!?!? You could do the same by stacking 1x1 plates!
