I normally don't comment on stuff like this on TH-cam because I'm probably going to be wasting my breathe but i'm struggling to watch this so here goes. You are correct in saying you encountered the timing problem because of the block & heads being surfaced too much BUT you have adjustable cam gears on this engine so you need to learn to set up a degree wheel and degree in each cam individually setting them to appropriate specs for the cams you have. The timing marks are literally a ballpark guide only and proper timing can be achieved with a degree wheel even if there is no physical timing marks on the belt or cam gears, and is the preferred way of timing a modified engine. The timing marks could be 4 teeth out but if you set the timing with a degree wheel to the specs you want this over rules the timing marks, you can literally draw your own new marks once this is done. Hope this helps you understand a bit, buying these other pulleys you mention may look like they help but in reality you still don't know how much difference there actually is in the cam timing, just because the marks line up doesn't necessarily mean the timing is correct on a modified engine.
I really enjoy watching your work and thorough knowledge about the EJ257. You create some top notch STI's out of your garage and do some really quality work. Do you do the cylinder #4 reverse cooling mods at all on your engines? Curious of your thoughts on that relative to ring land failures etc. Do aftermarket blocks have a different design for cooling at all?
Preference, ive always been different and deleted it. Ive invested alot of time / testing into them and its paid off. Its proven on the dyno to pick up 40whp / 40wtq across whole powerband and quicker / more responsive spool time. Obviously power of the car plays a roll in how much itll pick up ect. You also get a actual cam lope at idle.. With the series grey build, I only used 272 cams in that car due to not expecting to push it like i did. It proved on the dyno that we got every bit out of the cams with the adjustable cam gears. It reacted like 280 camshaft but spooled sooner. Deleting AVCS isnt for everyone, once you get into higher power (800whp+) the exhaust avcs gear will actually fluctuate and move with the amount of cylinder pressure. So having control of that cam gear locked where i want it benefits throughout the whole powerband.

Not so much a benefit of deleting oil in cam gear, but gaining control of the cam in a way im wanting to.

For oil pumps In Travis's car and hyper blue are you using modified 11mm or modified 12mm pumps? And what modifications are you doing to them. Thanks.
