One has to remember that the average man runs about 15flat for the 100m's. So that fast guy you know is probably only around 12 to 13secs. But very few can run under 12. Percentage wise it is under 1%. Again, if you can run under 12 you are extremely fast for an average person. But not fast for a sprinter. Dougie Howlett was one of our fastest ever All Black's, and stood out internationally for his speed and he could run 10.94sec's for the 100m(best official time).
quite a number of AFL players can run under 11 seconds. Patrick Dangerfield ran genuine 10.6s. Many AFL and WAFL/SANFL/VFL were elite national record holders in little athletics and were running low or sub 11 as juniors. In fact if you run 12s or more, in AFL you are considered to be slow.
@@Palpac what's lame about it he gets to race his all black idol, then he gets to run in to one that's what rugby players do they don't just run fast in a straight line😂
It's nice to see an actual sprinter placing the speed of these rugby players around the ''mid 11 seconds'' People exaggerate their speed too much. Lachie Turner was very fast and he ran an 11.10 (faster than all the rugby/ afl/ nrl guys in the country) Rod Davies ran 10.80 but he was a bit slimmer and training more track when he did. There won't be many rugby guys running faster than 11 seconds.
I'm curious! Is he the fastest white sprinter of all time? He certainly appears very confident in his standing. The title of this video is quite bold as well!😂
@@ntwalipat2 hes not the fastest white sprinter of all time at all. Several have gone faster. i can think of matt shirvington and Rohan Browning . Adam Gemili, Christophe Lemaitre, off the top of my head, then it depends on how you define white. This 60m time is bogus. The guy that ran the 6.43 could only manage 6.51 the week later. Canberra is at altitude and had a decent wind and every person in the top 4 posted huge PBs..lots of questions on its legitimacy. Tiaan needs to be humble and realise that his PB makes him behind 720 other individual athletes all time, and if you count the number of actual times posted that are quicker, then its page 73 of the all time list, behind nearly 7000 marks..
Meanwhile Zoe Hobbs is doing the same thing but on the international stage against the best in the world and she barely rates a mention .....is it because she is only a DEI hire?
That is an amazing achievement and of course as a Sprinter he would beat the rugby players in a sprint on a track but on a rugby field swerving and evading people holding a rugby ball in their hand wearing boots that's where the rugby guys have amazing skill and advantage.
Jamaica 🇯🇲 and the USA 🇺🇸 and South Africa have a lot of high school kids running a lot faster over the 100m! 9.8 may not even get you in the final at the 2028 Olympic Games!
No it wasn't. It was an official recognised time below the 2m/s cutoff being +1.6m/s. 2m/s a very gentle breeze, and hardly noticeable shaving only a few 1/100's of a second off a 100m time. Possible but very unlikely any current AB could run under 11secs. Doug Howlett was one of our fastest ever AB's and his best official time was 10.94 for the 100m's.
@@mega-dollop Yes but that time is not official or corroborated(if you can find out where he set that time let me know), whereas 10.94 is his fastest ever time set at an athletics meet. Let me END this silly comparison - a rugby back sprints and CARRIES a rugby ball with multiple defenders to evade; it's rarely ever a straight line run for rugby players. It would only be fair for Tiaan Whelpton to sprint with a ball in hand and swerve around and through cones. THE END.
Let me clear things up for you, rugby players do sprints with a ball in training and probably get timed from time to time. It about who fastest not who's fastest carrying a ball
@@Palpac WRONG mate, the sport is rugby; which requires a back to run with the ball in HAND on attack - not rugby sprint drill training. Tiaan is just desperate to get the ABs to fund his track meets - what an idiot!
@rogue_luko you have a point there. Rugby players, especially backs, run to evade or hurt their defenders. But Tiaan's point is that the ABs players, especially our backs are regarded as the fastest athletes in the country. Similar to a forward, they're regarded as big and strong. It wouldn't been a bad idea to have him race one of the ABs or even Super Rugby speedsters.

Comparing a rugby player to a sprinter in a race is stupid 😅
It's like comparing the Kiwis league team to the All blacks. LoL. 😂😂
It’s for fun and charity.
Who cares what the comparison is
Do a ‘run it straight’ challenge with ABs 😎
