Carrie Fisher requested a set of antique beaver chairs for payment in lieu of money. When Kevin asked why the chairs? She responded Beaver seemed the appropriate payment to be in his movie 😂

She’s in most of his movies. She plays Dante’s fiancé in Clerks 2. The one with the oversized clit Or undersized dick. Just like Adam Sandler, Kevin’s wife is in all of his movies at least somewhere.
The girl that you liked with the hair, if you want to see more things with her in them, I believe that same actress went on to be the series called “Heroes” on NBC.
The name of Will Farrell's Character (Marshall Willinholly) was a callback to an old TV show called Land of the Lost (Marshall, Will and Holly are the names of the characters of that show). Ironically Will Farrell would star in the film adaption of Land of the Lost.
Everytime I rewatch this movie im surprised by how hilarious it is! When Jay and Silent Bob Reboot came out they did a double screening of this and Reboot and it was one of the best movie theatre experiences! Cant wait for more View Askewniverse Reactions! And also hope you react to Kevin's other movies like Red State and Tusk!
The "Affleck was the bomb is Phantoms" joke comes from a comment made on the DVD commentary track for Mallrats. Every Smith movie commentary is worth listening to, Mallrats does stand out as being extra funny. These are pod casts years before those came to be. Really worth a listen.
The commentary track for Clerks is Emo-Kevin, or possibly even Premo-Kevin, when he took himself very seriously. He hates it and it's hilarious to listen to for that reason. The rest are just Kevin being funny with his friends, which is the best.
Unfortunately the commentary track for this movie includes Mewes wandering in late high on something. Making a Jay and Silent Bob movie was predicated on Mewes getting clean and staying clean and, unfortunately, he relapsed sometime between the filming of the movie and when the commentary was recorded.
*So many cameos in the movie, Where did it all go wrong with Smith? He was literally my favourite director as a kid, in fact Clerks was one of the first VHS tapes I bought.*
They did sneak a couple Harrison Ford references in, though. The lab they break into is named after the drug at the center of The Fugitive and the scene where Marshall Willenholly (a great Land of the Lost reference) corners them at the dam is as well.
Highly recommend the Clerks animated series if you need more View Askew. Only 6 episodes, but very funny. And interesting to see something from Kevin Smith where he's not allowed to cuss in every sentence. I'm still kinda amazed that there actually was a Clerks cartoon on ABC for a little while.
Check out the movies How High(2001), Don’t Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood(1996), Malibu’s Most Wanted(2003), and Pineapple Express(2008).
Make sure to use my suggestion form for this (linked in every video description). It's much easier for me that way, rather than having to manually scroll through all the comments on my videos. Cheers!
They also brought Gus Van Sant, the director of Good Will Hunting. And they also brought Wes Craven, who directed Scream 1-4, A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes (both the original movies, not the remakes) The guy with the braces, Seann William Scott, was also in the American Pie movies. Don't you just want to see Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season happen for real? XD ;P
At this point it's safe to watch An Evening with Kevin Smith (the first one, at least) to get a lot of great stories behind the making of this first handful of movies in the View Askewniverse. It would probably not work as a reaction video but there's a lot of good stuff in there if you've liked Kevin's writing in these movies.
I'm eager to get to that, but personally going to wait until I've watched everything so then I can really deep dive on tons of Kevin interviews and such.
Dogma and J&SBSB are my two favorite Viewaskew movies. I've never been able to watch Chasing Amy or Mallrats all the way through and I haven't seen Clerks 3 or Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, mostly because I kinda feel like I had my fill of Kevin Smith's writing after watching Tusk.
"Marshall Willenholly. On a routine expedition! Met the greatest earthquake of them all!" Also cool that Will Farrel was in the Land of the Lost movie.
To add to the American Pie cast reunion....Shannon Elizabeth who plays Justice and Seann William Scott who has a big role in those movies plays Brent the Sheep #$#^@* who Jay kicks out of the moving van
I love this one, Dogma & Jay & Silent Bob Reboot to watch when I need a good laugh. I don’t have to watch closely for laughs. Kevin Smith coming up with Silent Bob is genius. Mimes everything except when thoroughly pissed, doesn’t know how to mime what he wants to say or shows off his big IQ to recite legal. 25:42 it’s funny that for his “reboot” movie he said he used his heart attack to guilt everyone to be in his film. 27:41 he probably left the company blank in the script until he got one to do it and inserted their name. 31:31 love how this calls back to “Mallrats” with Silent Bob believing he had the force. 32:55 Silent Bob is like “that makes sense no innocent woman looking like that would be into Jay and not me”
It's not just Ben Affleck, Matt Damon & Scott William Winters, the director "Gus" they keep talking to who's busy counting his money is the actual director of _Good Will Hunting,_ Gus Van Sant. And the director of the _Scream_ film being shot is the actual director of the first four _Scream_ films, Wes Craven. And if you like Kevin Smith, there's a very good chance you'd enjoy the _Scream_ films. This movie _is_ ridiculous, but I adore it. It was one of my post-9-11 comfort movies (once it was released on DVD in February 2002), as well as a source of bonding with my mother, who, for whatever reason, found Jay to be absolutely hilarious. We still sing Jay's Rap together every-so-often, and I will reenact the entire "Planet of the Apes" sequence on-demand ("GOD DAMN YOUSE ALL TO HELLLLLLLLL!!"). It's certainly not "art," and "Dogma" remains my favorite View Askew movie, but this one is just so fun, and you can tell how much fun everyone was having on-set. It's literally just a guy that made a lot of celebrity friends by being really cool and easy to work with asking all of his buddies to hang out and be silly for a while. ...."Bat and Men." XD
I got free passes to an early screening for this, and it was one of the best comedies I've ever seen, I would have gladly paid to see it after the fact.
I went to this movie dressed as silent bob. I passed so amazingly, that after the movie I stood outside the theater leaning against a wall smoking as bob does at the quick stop somebody thought I was Kevin smith and slammed into the car in front of him.
Happy Thursday Kaiielle. I was late to the premiere (stupid work) but this is at the top of my watchlist for the day. 🥃☮❤ My second-favourite in the View Askewniverse, behind Dogma. Certainly not Oscar material, but the brilliant meta humour and endless awesome cameos make it a 10/10 for me. Snoochie Boochies.😁
This is my favourite KS movie and if I'm honest, the only one I still revisit. But I do have a soft spot for Yoga Hosers in a cult, so-bad-its-good way
@25:09 Scott Mosier, Kevin’s real producer from day one. “You’re a tracer” in Chasing Amy. Snowball in Clerks. Cheating on wife in bus in Dogma. The other half of SModcast.
Please feel free to correct me my fellow viewers. But I believe one of the reasons Kevin wrote this film was to keep Jason busy, who was a Herion user at the time. I know it's not the happiest of facts (if true). But it says a lot about the kind of man/friend Kevin is. Writing a movie for his friend in the hopes of helping him and keeping him drug free.
I agree with your rank, other then I would flip Amy and Dogma. Both Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Jay and Silent Bob::Reboot (and I assume Part 3 in production now) are super fun, outrageous and over the top BUT they really don't have the same heart of the other films (though Reboot as a bit more heart) They are just crazy, raunchy fun. I still love them and revisit them... but they play more like Saturday Night Live 'skits' or the 80s "Naked Gun" spoof style movies.
You need to watch The Fugitive and Animal House. Then u will get a lot more of Kevin Smith's inside humor. Multiple references to those movies in this film.
Once you are done with Clerks 2 and Clerks 3, you need to go for the other Kevin Smith films. Jersey Girl, Red State, Zack and Miri Make A Porno and Tusk. (Avoid Yoga Hosers, it is terrible).
@@jrobwoo688 I personally always leave Cop Out, out of the list. Why? Because of how Bruce Willis treated everyone on set. Knowing he went all prima donna and treated Kevin Smith, Scott Mosier and Tracy Morgan like shit as well as the crew, I just lost all respect for him. Especially when Kevin is one of the nicest and most decent people one could talk to or meet in person. I can't say what Tracy Morgan is like, but damn. Throwing so many hissy fits, not showing up on time, disrespecting the people he works with...yeah. I am not okay with that. So I don't even acknowledge the film with a watch or don't watch for it.
I loved and still love Kevin Smith and his movies, I had seen them all before but this came out, and when this came out I was 17-18 so I was able to see it in theaters. I think I saw it 2-3 times. In theaters. Countless times after, I cant ever decide which is my favorite KS movie, but if I broke it down into three or four categories, I’d say ridiculous comedy it’s this. For an award winning movie it’s Jersey Girl. That movie is just beyond AMAZING. For satire it’s Dogma. For general comedy it’s either Clerks 2 or Mallrats. I mean I can’t really decide, lol. I want to create a different classification to include all his movies. TUSK was amazing but just like Jersey Girl, that wasn’t his fortay, he did something different in both cases and it worked. Kevin Smith and Tarantino are two of my top directors. I love movies and have many I admire, and I realize that’s not a particularly fringe opinion, lol, they are some of the most mainstream and beloved directors but where I enjoy movies made by other big directors, I don’t think they have much connection to the script until they pick it up, whereas there are some directors who wrote AND directed their movies. Or most of them. The real MVPs
I'm also not a big fan of "the crudeness and the raunchiness", as you put it, but for movies with characters like Jay and Silent Bob, it's as if the filmmakers are giving us an option to laugh with them or laugh at them. It's like Beavis and Butthead, if I knew those guys in real life, I would find them insufferable, but on the screen I find them hilarious. Same thing here, the crude jokes are a little bit funny on the surface level, but in the context of these two stoners, it's funny because it's a character piece.
This movie works for a few reasons... sometimes it's just nice to unplug with a bit of mindless stupid humor, all the callbacks and actors are nice easter eggs for fans of the other movies, and Jay's crudeness is made tolerable by the fact that he almost has something vaguely resembling a character arc in this movie lol. Dogma is my favorite... too bad sicko in prison still owns the rights to it. Kevin can't make a sequel until he can manage to get the rights back.
That was beautiful and cathartic and I actually said it out loud... to which my husband replied, "IF YOU THINK 37 IS A LOT, YOU JUST WAIT AND SEE, MISTER!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great reaction, please skip his next movie Jersey Girl, it's not part of the View Askew Universe and maybe the worst movie ever made haha, it's universally disliked mostly because it revolved around JLo and Affleck at the time, not to mention it was just a poor script. Go straight to Clerks 2, where he completely redeems himself!
I'm only following the View Askew right now so I have no plans to watch Jersey Girl as part of it. That said, I do want to see Jersey Girl eventually just to form my own opinion!
Since ya predicted that chasing Amy would be your favorite Ben affleck role, it’s worth saying that Kevin smith’s next movie was jersey girl. It gets skipped because it’s not in the askewniverse but I like him a lot in that movie and George Carlin as his father is amazing. Start a trend and be the first reactor who watches Kevin’s movies to check it out. 🤘🤘🤘
Making fun of Miramax at the time was ahead of it's time. Harvey Weinstein was still president at the time this was made. Kevin has pledged his future residuals from the films Weinstein produced to the non-profit organization Women in Film.
I loved this movie when it first came out. I can't remember if I saw it in theaters or rented it. Remember going out to rent videos? Anywho, after subsequent watches and as much fun as it is, I think it leans a bit too much into cameos, self-referential gags and breaking the fourth wall. I still enjoy the film, and I'm sure it was a blast for them to film, but that kinda stuff doesn't hold up on re-watches as well as the other films in the AViewAskew universe with a bit more meat on the bones. 🦧
Don't know if you did it yourself, but that kaiielle logo animation in the into is killer

Thank you so very much for watching these movies with us. It brightens my day to watch these with you.
This movie is a big inside joke.
Fun fact. Baby Silent Bob in this movie is played by Kevin Smith's daughter.
Also the actress that plays Missy is in real life Kevin Smith's wife.
She’s in most of his movies. She plays Dante’s fiancé in Clerks 2. The one with the oversized clit
Or undersized dick.
Just like Adam Sandler, Kevin’s wife is in all of his movies at least somewhere.
And Phantoms is a decent horror movie.

To this day Affleck has said one of the most quoted lines he gets from any movie he has been in is that he was “the bomb in Phantoms yo!”
Dogma being your #2 is appropriate, since Kevin refers to it almost exclusively as "The one with the giant rubber poop monster."
I always love Mark's laugh as the joker during the fight scene.
haha its amazing
Can't wait for Clerks II!
Kevin says he's more of an editor than a director. He gets the shot that he wants and moves on as he's cutting it in his head.
"The sign! On the back of the car!!!"

In the beginning of the film. Baby Silent Bob is Kevin Smith’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith

The Colorado sheriff was played by Judd Nelson from The Breakfast Club.
Hi Kaiielle, did you watch until the very end? There's a post-credits scene with Alannis Morrisette reprising her role as God from Dogma.😅
I had checked for a credits scene but missed that it was an actual scene-scene. I did watch it after the fact lol
The "Affleck was the bomb is Phantoms" joke comes from a comment made on the DVD commentary track for Mallrats. Every Smith movie commentary is worth listening to, Mallrats does stand out as being extra funny. These are pod casts years before those came to be. Really worth a listen.
I plan to do that when I rewatch these, once I've completed all the first time watches.
The commentary track for Clerks is Emo-Kevin, or possibly even Premo-Kevin, when he took himself very seriously. He hates it and it's hilarious to listen to for that reason. The rest are just Kevin being funny with his friends, which is the best.

I quote this movie daily, especially the "Ain't that about a b****?" and "The f-ing whole world's against us dude I swear!" They are so heartfelt !😂
*So many cameos in the movie, Where did it all go wrong with Smith? He was literally my favourite director as a kid, in fact Clerks was one of the first VHS tapes I bought.*
I wish Smith had been able to get Harrison Ford to cameo also. Having the whole trifecta would have been just perfect.
True but I can only IMAGINE Harrison's response to being asked lmao he was probably not for it at all.
They did sneak a couple Harrison Ford references in, though. The lab they break into is named after the drug at the center of The Fugitive and the scene where Marshall Willenholly (a great Land of the Lost reference) corners them at the dam is as well.

Dude you had me cracking up. I’m sure my neighbors heard me through the walls lol😂😂😂. Great reaction. You are free to leave sirs. 😂😂👏👏🥰
I met Kevin Smith and got him to sign my Silent Bob bobblehead. He was hella cool.
"Now how do *you* like dem apples?" That never fails to make me laugh.

This and Dogma are my favorites. The creative crudeness is part of what makes it amazing, similar to South Park.
"Bat and Men". Well, Affleck did play Batman, so you were half right.
……and they are both men 🤷

Both Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Jay and Silent Bob::Reboot (and I assume Part 3 in production now) are super fun, outrageous and over the top BUT they really don't have the same heart of the other films (though Reboot as a bit more heart) They are just crazy, raunchy fun. I still love them and revisit them... but they play more like Saturday Night Live 'skits' or the 80s "Naked Gun" spoof style movies.
American Pie franchise, please!
Kevin Smith is the Stan Lee of comedy! Many actors always made cameos in his films!
Brilliant choice!
Looking forward to this one.
I always thought that this was Kevin’s worst movie, but I watched it recently and laughed my ass off!
(Avoid Yoga Hosers, it is terrible).
seconded on all of that, especially about Yoga Hosers.
Cop Out
@@jrobwoo688 I personally always leave Cop Out, out of the list.
That's a great way of putting it! Completely agree.
I cut my own hair too!
You don’t want to rub the CLIT the wrong way.
You should watch FANBOYS it’s not in this universe but Kevin smith and jay show up in it as a cameo
If you like Jay & Silent Bob there's an Easter egg in one of the Scream movies 😉
"George Lucas gonna sue somebody!"
I don't thonk you realized who justice was when jason Biggs showed up
Could you ever react to Clerks the Animated Series? It's only six episodes
u catch the 37 reference?
Mark Hemel is dressed like the flash villian the trickster thst mark hamel was the voice of
I miss wizzard magazine
Jersey girl needs to be added to your list. You will LOVE Jersey Girl.
It will rank up there with Chasing Amy
Missy is kevin Smith's wife
@19:49 In a row ?
That was beautiful and cathartic and I actually said it out loud... to which my husband replied, "IF YOU THINK 37 IS A LOT, YOU JUST WAIT AND SEE, MISTER!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah , this one is a bit too much. It's a fun watch once, mostly for the cameos, but it definitely lacks as a movie on it's own merits
I’m excited to see you watch Clerks 2, it’s one of my favorites. And I can’t wait to see your reaction to reboot against this one
@@kaiielle fair enough, you may like it
You’re an absolute muppet and are 100% wrong. You clearly didn’t even watch the movie. Best stfu about movies, kid.
if you liked Chasing Amy, I hope you check out Jersey Girl, and the sequal to this movie actually has more heart
Making fun of Miramax at the time was ahead of it's time. Harvey Weinstein was still president at the time this was made. Kevin has pledged his future residuals from the films Weinstein produced to the non-profit organization Women in Film.
For me it's this then dogma
Awesome reaction/ can you please watch a movie called ANY GIVEN SUNDAY.
Great movie.
No one ever watches the end credits scene
I did after the fact. Meh.
Wow.. I haven't seen a girl/woman with bangs in A LONG TIME!! Looking good K :)
